Great food! But, frankly My ears are ringing, sweat is pouring off my forehead and I can no longer focus my eyes. I farted and four people behind me needed paramedics. The waitress seemed offended when I told her that her green chili had given me brain damage; Sally saved my tongue from bleeding by pouring beer directly on it from a pitcher. This place was such a disappointment. I wish I had the same experience as many of the positive reviews that I read before choosing this place. Let's start with the positives.... The salsa was really good. And, the iced tea was freshly brewed. Now, onto the disappointments...First up, the piece of tres leches cake that we were served was really small. For $5.00, it was an insult. And, it was topped with chocolate syrup and whipped cream out of a can. There were no "three milks" to be found. Again, two forkfuls, and it was gone! Now, onto the tortilla chips. We were served a bowl of "gravel". Nearly all of the chips were broken into tiny pieces. Any caring restaurant would have thrown out the chip fragments and served something that could be used to scoop salsa. And, finally onto the main dishes. We ordered two of the Dunagan combo platters. Sadly, it was whipped together very fast and tasted like it. It was obvious that the runny sauces were from a can. They had little to no flavor. And, none of the food was cooked together. Rather, it was assembled out of previously prepared meats, sauces, etc. The beef in the taco and enchiladas was extremely salty. The red chili has some good heat. But, there were a lot of chunks of fat to wade through. This place honestly has a lot of potential. But, it seems to have gone the way of assembly line preparation and ready made ingredients. It should take more than five minutes to cook enchiladas, tacos, and chili rellenos! read more

Local Mexican food spot. Everything I've had here has been good. Not, this is the best Mexican food, but not awful. Pre covid-at lunch really loud. Bad acoustics. Everything is pretty spicy, but they will help tame it down. Nice folks. Usually very fast. And if you are dry rice vs wet rice (sopa). This is wet rice. I like it dry, but it is tolerable. By far the best and my favorite Mexican food restaurant around! I often frequented Mi Casitas when I lived in Carlsbad and the food is always delicious. Favorites being the Tina's Special and the taco plate, not to mention the Queso! If you want traditional and AUTHENTIC New Mexican food don't go anywhere else in town or in Eddy County for that matter because nothing will compare. Their deserts are equally as good. Mi Casitas has speedy service, rarely do you have to wait and if you do it won't be for long. The same with your food. Great place to grab a quick lunch! This is a cute little place in Carlsbad, of course. Given all the options, we were in the mood for New Mexican food. This place delivered. Good, simple food. No muss, no fuss, just good, simple food. Flavor is amazing and the options are varied enough for anyone to find something they want. The salsa was good, but extremely hot, which dimmed out the flavor I think. They do have wine-based margaritas. They were on special, $5, on the Tuesday night we were there. Service was friendly, but definitely not fussy. What I got was a chewy factory made tortilla, filled with greasy scrambled egg, a couple small nuggets of undercooked sausage, and nearly no cheese. Bland, flavorless, and definitely not something I will order again. It's located in what looks like a little house turned restaurant, but definitely lacks the "home style" taste and quality. I was disappointed. This was highly recommended by the locals. This has a diner atmosphere which we were not expecting. The staff was short handed. The salsa was good, the chips were seasoned. When ordering, we were asked if we wanted red or green. Regretfully, we both got the red. (Spicy) I ordered the Duragan which has asada, taco, enchiladas, and a fried pepper. Each on their own were very good, but the red sauce was over powering because it was applied to all of them. The taco and chips were the only relief. Beans and/or rice would have helped. I am used to tortillas being served, especially with asada, they were not. Enchiladas come with an egg, get it. I have a new appreciation for the Mexican restaurants in my area. read more

The best salsa in town. Lots of it and no added cost to your ticket. They keep the chips coming, too. The best asado in town. Asado Burrito or Asado plate, it doesn't matter. If Asado is your thing, you've definitely got to try it. Can't say much else about the menu because asado is all I eat at Mi Casita. The restaurant is small, crowded and you may have to wait. The 3 stars is for the staff, not the food. The food gets a 3.75 to a 4.75ish........... I ate here three nights in a row and attempted to eat here a 4th night. The waitress on the first night was very good, very attentive and did a decent job. I gave her a 25% tip. The next two nights she let other waitresses serve me. The 2nd night, that waitress was ok but didn't check up on me very much. The third night, that waitress really angered me. I asked for another bowl of salsa and instead of getting me another bowl, she took the existing bowl to the kitchen and added water to it!!!!! WTF??????? The 4th night I arrived 15 minutes till close and the same waitress who watered down my salsa the night before, said "we're closed" I was pissed and went to the Lucky Bull to eat. Now keep in mind that during my 2nd and 3rd visits, the original waitress who served me never said a word to me or welcomed me back; she did tell the waitress on the 2nd visit what beer I liked and it was brought to me without even being asked; that was kinda cool. I gave her a 20% tip. OK, OK now about the grub....... But before that, I just want to say the Yelp Review by Ashley C is retarded; she doesn't know her "ashley" from a hole in the ground! If you have dietary restrictions, don't eat in a Mexican food restaurant...... furthermore, this food has plenty of flavor. Now, that being said, it's not like Tex Mex and it's not like traditional Mexican food in old Mexico. It's unique and was pretty good. The rice is very wet unlike most Spanish rice you get elsewhere. The salsa is a basic tomato, jalapeno and onion chopped in a food processor or blender; it was really good on the first two visits. The beans were good and so was everything else I ordered.
