Nice service when initially getting in and the cleaning off the table and drink refill was good. They were pretty busy and they had a good basic section. They refilled the food pretty good however the sushi was not refilled like I wish just basic rolls to choose from. When I arrived there was only 1 single piece of 2 special rolls. I didn't like how low the plates sat on the shelf but I didn't like the endless silverware selection. Also they had multiple ice cream choices which was also nice. When food arrived they updated the time for replacement which was also nice. Lunch price was $13 for adults and 8 for kids. This place? A culinary catfish. My child had been begging to come here, full of excitement and empty expectations--and we got seated like suckers without peeking at the buffet. Big mistake. The food looked like it had been fighting for its life since yesterday , it gave up. Nothing fresh, nothing flavorful--just sadness in steel trays. It's almost impressive how consistently unappealing everything was. The salad wilted, the meat questionable, the sides... forgettable. You'd think it was a haunted buffet trying to drive customers away on purpose. I don't know who's keeping this place afloat, but it might be time to let it sink with dignity. With a name like "Tokyo Buffet" you might be fooled into thinking this is a Japanese restaurant. Nope. From the size of the building you might even be tricked into thinking they serve hibachi. Also nope. This is a buffet, and not a fancy one. With all the stained glass you'd think it was a pub or would have a bar. Big nope. They don't serve beer or alcohol of any kind. One thing I found strange was the absence of white rice. The popular Chinese-American takeout options tasted fine--makes sense they would be the freshest out of the wok and the most practiced dishes. Anything beyond those typical choices wasn't knocking my socks off. Yes they have sushi but no it's not particularly exciting. My overall review: awkward. Most of the orders are takeout. Why does the massive dining room even exist? The servers were tentative and I'm sure trying their best in a location where the normal customers wouldn't know a szechuan peppercorn if it was literally in their mouth anyway. The negative reviews baffle me!! Good riddance to those divas!! These are hard-working folks who take great pride in their food and their service!! We dine here every Sunday, and occasionally during the week. We have enjoyed a few hundred meals here! I have tried a few similar buffet places in the area. Though we liked most of the people we've met, we greatly prefer the food at Tokyo Buffet (and we do have the highest regard for this family!!). If I post a review, it is probably because I'm a huge fan! Being regulars here, it is odd that we have never encountered a disgruntled or unsatified customer! Heck, if we had, I'd probably have paid for their meals! Anyway, take the one-star reviews with a grain of salt. Upon arrival the 4 buffet tables looked very nice. However, ALL the steam table foods were cold......... The only item that was hot was the sweet and sour sauce for the chicken. The outside says Japanese Hibachi (cook at your table) and sushi. Inside says cheap decor and frozen food service (yes, it's all brought in frozen and reheated. Nothing is fresh. I'm a trained chef, I know). Not even any white rice anywhere. Only three buffet lines. All of the food tasted strange. Service was poor. Someone never taught the server to smile. I start ordering items and I'm like sweet and sour pork. We don't have it. But the menu says you do. Speaks in Chinese to someone. No we don't have it. I'm like it's number 35 on the menu. We don't have it fine I'll order something else. I order everything and she tells me it'll be 45 minutes. I have a coupon. That's not for delivery it's for take out. Yeah well I'm paying some guy $5 to take it out for me right? No coupon! Btw this chick sounded like a real bitch. An hour later it finally arrives. No cutlery no chopsticks and no napkins. They're delivering to a fucking hotel. She knew the name of it. By this point I'm pissed so I call her tell her say no forks and btw it was over an hour. The general tso's chicken looked like it was bought from Panda(disgusting) then they poured a cup of syrup in to the box. This has a new owner and it is very apparent as soon as you walk in. No one is friendly, they aren't filling the food bins, the food is pretty terrible as is the service. Food was great and authentic! I especially loved the sushi and there is a huge variety of meats, seafoods, Asian dishes along with some American entrees! The employees were very nice and polite and checked up on us often. I'm typically skeptical of buffets (sometimes the food isn't too fresh - sometimes even golden coral has food lying there for awhile), but the food here was tasty and the quantity you eat is well worth the price.
