We were there when they opened at 11 for lunch. We chose Toki from a Yelp search as we were traveling through on I-40. The food was good. I had a rice bowl. It surprised me that the chicken was cold. The flavors were good. My friend had a ramen soup-style dish. She thought it good but did get the waitress to bring some chili sauce to add a not it for more flavor. The restaurant is conveniently located to the interstate. The building looks like it may have been an Italian pizza lace at some point. The restaurant was clean and the staff attentive. No pictures this time around. But the meal did cause me to make a few rice bowls at home later in the week. read more

If we were just reviewing the portion size I would give this place 5 stars, but since flavor is also a factor, I can only muster up 4. I'm sorry, but the shredded cheese in the poke bowl shouldn't be a thing. I should've told them to leave that off, but I hate changing restaurants' menu items, plus I DO love cheese. Ask a poke bowl place the options are limited. And this is the first poke place that I've been too that doesn't have masago as an option. And also they have "shredded cheese" instead.....? Like what, and why? The yum yum sauce is nasty. Looks like mayo with seasoning in it. Not the usual orange color. And the ponzu sauce taste wierd. Not sure what's going on but if you like your spicy tuna in the usual square cut chunks. Look elsewhere because here you get the mushy cat food scrapings that they scrape off silver skin of the tuna. Also no marinated tuna option and wierd toppings for a poke bowl place. Mushrooms cheese and broccoli just sounds crazy to have on the menu fore poke. 3/5 read more

I stopped by Toki on a quick trip through Cookeville. It was cool and rainy, so ramen was appealing to me. We arrived at the end of the lunch rush and got seated right away. It took a little while to get orders in, though food was served quickly upon ordering. Service was mixed - slow at first, good in the middle, and slow to get checked out. I had the miso ramen, the kids shared a salmon poke bowl and some of my ramen. The miso ramen was full of fresh vegetables, good broth, fried tofu, and good noodles. The poke bowl had fresh toppings, though the rice was mixed quality and the salmon not as fresh as I'd like for poke. It wasn't bad, just not as smooth, consistent texture and slightly more fragrant than the fresh stuff. When I am back in Cookeville, could come back for a bowl of ramen, but will pass on the poke. read more

Toki is the reason I choose Cookeville as my halfway stop on my way to Memphis 3 or 4 times a year. Because there are easily, less congested on-off stops nearby, but I look forward to a bowl of their Spicy Miso ramen during my entire drive. It's my "reward" at the end of a day of driving. So delicious. The decour is pretty bland... but I don't care. The ramen is delicious. read more

I really wanted to like this place and I'm not saying I won't give it another try, but right now I'm highly disappointed. The restaurant is nice, clean, and spacious. The atmosphere was rather quiet, with a few parties eating in. I was greeted, but then somewhat rushed to order which I declined to order at that time because it was my first time visiting and I needed to browse the menu for a little. I ordered to take it Togo. Their packaging for takeout was awesome. I assumed they would mix everything prior to, but you were able to add the base once you reached your destination. (This May actually be common at other places if you take it Togo, but it was my first experience having it packaged this way) lol I was conflicted....it's either get a poke bowl (something I've never had) or ramen (something I love). I went with ramen, because why not give this place a try to see if it lives up to some of the other ramen establishments I've had that were great. Ramen.....ehhhh it was ok! Not a huge fan of the broth. The broth lacked flavor tremendously. There was a handful of spinach leaves as if I were planning to eat a salad that I wasn't used to having. Once I lifted the spinach leaves I found corn kernels, this was a major raised eyebrow moment...I've never had corn in my ramen. Kinda odd but okay! For the protein I chose chicken, which were two grilled chicken pattys placed on top. A slither of seaweed that didn't crunch and 2 eggs that seemed to have been sitting for quite some time that didn't ooze when cut into. (I honestly hope I don't get sick)!!! I also ordered a bao bun appetizer that's prob the best thing I ordered tonight. The meat inside the bao bun didn't have much flavor, but the sauce provided for dipping made up for the lack of tastiness of the meat. Based off the other reviews it seems like this place is a hit, but for me not as much. It was worth the try. I suggest you go and try for yourself in hopes you'll have a better experience. read more

Husband and I both had the tonkatsu ramen and the bao buns and a thai tea. I had the pork in my ramen and he had gotten beef in his. All of it was incredible, but for me the pork belly and the Thai tea were my favorite part. I am definitely a Thai tea snob, and this was quite literally the best Thai tea I've ever had. Such a deep flavor and just the right sweetness to bring out the natural flavors of the tea, its hard to put down. The pork in the ramen was perfectly cooked, charred pork belly with a melt in your mouth fat layer. Incredible. As for the ramen broth, it has a great flavor all its own, but adding a little chili oil upped it another level entirely. So overall it was amazing food. The shop was a little small and had such a cozy feeling to it. We came at an odd time of day so im not sure how busy they get during peak times, but hubby and I were the only ones in the restaurant. The staff (I'm assuming it was the owners, possibly a couple that owns/runs it?) they were both very friendly and quick with the service we got. All in all, we loved this place. So this a awkward but.. BE CAUTIOUS when eating here. Food was great, ramen was fine, but we had an interaction that worries me about business practices. We went on a quiet night about an hour before closing and things went fine until we went to pay.. the waitress who waited on us, took our order, and rang us up, rang us up for 49.99 for two $14 ramen bowls. When asked about the discrepancy, she tried to push me through to pay, and continued to until I asked VERY politely where the math was coming from. She then just changed it to the right price and turned the reader back to me. I say all this because I was well dressed coming back from a wedding, so this just feels a bit too coincidental to be coincidence. She never got an attitude or was rude, but then again wasn't apologetic or seemed to care about almost charging me close to double. I'm leaving the 4* because the ramen was good, and mistakes happen. First time here and won't be my last. I got take out and honestly had no idea what I was ordering. Person behind counter helped with ordering and descriptions. My husband and I wanted to try something different and local, no chain restaurants for us. I ordered a couple different things and both were really good. I ordered appetizers of fried calamari, bao (like steamed dumplings made with a dough and bigger) and gyoza (like fried dumplings). All were great! Main dishes I ordered ramen with spicy tonkotsu, chicken and udon noodles. Really really good. I also ordered poke bowl with white rice, broccoli, corn, jalapeno, carrots and shredded cheese with chicken, green onion on top and side of yumy yumy sauce. Again, spot on delicious. Everything is super fresh and made to order but you don't wait forever which is nice. We will definitely order from here again and again. Highly recommend! I love this place!!!!! Me and boyfriend drove from Nashville to Bristol. I am so glad to find a place that serves fresh poke! And a tasty Ramen! their ramen is so FLAVORFUL with fresh ingredients. POKE was also served with very fresh ingredients. I don't know why other people complain about imitation crabs, but I have never had poke that served real crab meat (from CA to LV, FL, TX to Nashville) never had that. The servers are so polite and the service was fast and good. I would drop by here again during our weekend drives to my boyfriend's home. I like helping small businesses and spreading good karma to good people. Great place. read more
