After helping my son demolish some fencing in his back yard, he treated me for lunch and asked where I wanted to go. I simply asked for someplace I had not been, so I could write a review. I had mixed feelings. Partially because I am an adventuresome eater, I picked the Dinuguan. I did not really know what it was but because I never had Filipino food, I tried it. The description on the menu did not prepare me for what it really was. Unfortunately, I did not care for it, but I shall explain. Researching the dish after the fact, I learned that it is sometimes made with pork blood and pig offal.Had I known that ahead of time, my perception might have changed. I have eaten many ethnic dishes with pork blood and am not put off by those. I just was not expecting the taste profile. On the positive side of this dish, it was filled with pork product, which was so tender it dissolved in my mouth. There was a lot of it, too. We ordered the Lumpia, an egg-roll and really liked those. The Thai teas was wonderful. Two servers attended to us and were very nice indeed. The ambiance was nice, not extravagant, but quite comfortable. I live 90 minutes away, so I will not be going back anytime soon. However, if I do get a chance to go back, I will research the menu ahead of time to know what I am getting.. Hopefully this review will not turn you away. Go there. It wasn't busy for dine-in, but there was a steady flow of takeout orders being picked up, which is usually a good sign. The space is cute, though a bit warm inside, and the restrooms are definitely on the tiny side. That said, the staff was friendly and the food came out hot and promptly, which we appreciated. Food. Phenomenal. We just moved here, and I was so shocked to find an authentic Filipino restaurant in Tennessee! My family is a melting pot, and I always miss my grandmother in law's Filipino bbq dinners. It's definitely not a place with quick fast food, but the service was warm! One time our food took about 45 minutes just for 2 bbq plates which was frustrating but so delicious! A group of eight of us came here last night. I'll admit I'm a Thai food snob as I've had Thai food at places all over the world. Half our group wanted Filipino food, the other half Thai so this was the perfect compromise. Pros: super friendly service! Our server was all smiles, very polite, friendly and checked in with us when we got the food. People in our group loved the Filipino food and especially the lumpia, crab Rangoon, potstickers, and fried pork. Cons: We ordered drunken noodles. Ok, the sauce on this had zero basil flavor. It was sweet almost like a pad see ewe sauce which is one of my least faves. Also, large chunks of mushroom were in it? I'm soooo glad I did not order that as even though it's one of my favorite dishes, it was nothing like an authentic pad kee mow. Was ordered at a level two. I ordered the Panang at a level three. It was quite disappointing. The amount of peanut in it was so lacking that the consistency was like a broth. There was no thickness like Panang traditionally has and the flavor was bland at best. Very little lemongrass, garlic or lime flavor. Now the fish sauce was present as I got a big ol mouthful in one bite of that as if it was shaken into a base and not properly stirred. Ironically, my level of heat three was much more mild than hubby's level two pad kee mow. Overall, the service was what had me bump the stars up and that others in the group loved their Filipino food. The person who ordered pad Thai sent theirs back for some reason and I couldn't hear at the other end of the long table why that happened. Lastly, I don't know if they add MSG or just lots of sugar in their food, but my Apple Watch alerted me that my heart rate was over 120. This happens when I have too much sugar or MSG is in my food.... I would ask them but honestly, I doubt I'll be back. First time eating here and it was fantastic. We ordered a Thai tea, which was sweet and creamy. Then we couldn't figure out which starters we wanted so we ordered the sampler which came with potstickers, crab rangoons, spring rolls, and lumpia (filipino style rolls). It comes with three sauces a potsticker dip (soy based), sweet and sour sauce dip, and a sweet and creamy dip. Everything we ordered as tasty. The potstickers were full of flavor, the rolls were crispy, and the rangoons were crispy, warm, and creamy. For entrees we wanted some traditional filipino food so we ordered the Dinuguan, which is a pork gravy cooked in garlic, chili and vinegar, and served with rice. This dish as amazing but you want to eat it on warm, soft rice in a thin layer for the best experience. Then we also ordered the bbq kabob plate. We ordered it with pork, chicken and shrimp on skewers. It also comes with a veggie kabob, lumpias, and pancit (sauteed rice noodles with veggies and chicken). The kabobs were great and the extras complimented the dish nicely. Our server was wonderful, very nice, knowledgeable, and helpful. Ask for a check before you pay and look it over carefully. I was overcharged approximately 20% and didn't realize it until I got home. Clean place and nice people. It was a comfortable place to eat. The dishes come out looking really nice. Level 2 spicy made my eyes water. I admit I'm not good with hot food, but still, I like a little bit of heat and level 2 was just a bit too much for me. The noodles were overcooked in the Drunken Noodle dish and there were perhaps three pieces of beef. The Pad Thai was not good. Should be called sweet noodles. I don't think I found more than one or two small pieces of chicken and no vegetables. I would sum it up this way - Overcooked noodles that were way too sweet and then heat that seemed more like a 3 or 4. If you youtube how to make authentic Pad Thai you'll see many videos of how it should look and the proportion of ingredients used. I'm afraid that Fil Thai Pad Thai is about as far removed from that as it can be. The crispy chicken was the star of the show. I don't think I'll go back anytime soon. The food was three-star, but I'm giving them two stars overall for overcharging me. I'm giving myself one star for not checking the check! Duh. Stupid. I'll look more carefully from now on, it seems this type of thing has been happening more and more lately. One restaurant I went to recently charged a lot more in tax than they should have. Gotta be on the lookout these days. You know, it's getting so I don't even want to go out and eat anymore. Not at 'nice' restaurants anyway. Have you noticed how all the food at the chain restaurants is over-sauced, over-spiced, over-flavored to the point where it is downright unfit to eat? I go to the Olive Garden and order pasta, and I think that I should order a bowl of plain pasta to mix into the pasta dish they gave me. Same with the salad, they could halve the dressing and it would be just right. I think this is because they are all competing for your business and more flavor sells. But only to a point. I think local eateries are having a hard time competing with the chains, and finding a cook who will stay with the restaurant for any length of time and also do a great job at cooking is almost impossible to find. So at least in Cookeville, TN, it is very difficult to go out to eat at a restaurant and get quality food that tastes as good as what I can make at home and not spend a fortune. With tip, our meal at Fil Thai was $85. One appetizer, three shared entrees, a coke and a bottled water. We took leftovers home and my wife and I will get another meal from those. But still, when you consider that with not much effort I can make food at home that is much higher in quality and costs a fraction of what we spent, I'm just getting to the point where it's not worth it anymore. Yes it's nice to get out of the house once in a while, but eighty five bucks! It wasn't even that good. We should have gone to Five Guys or gotten chicken sandwiches at Popeye's. read more

This is going to be a challenging review. Frankly, the food was decent. My dish was better than my wife's, though. The noodle dishes I believe seem to be larger, have more flavor, and be a bit more authentic than the rice dishes. My wife's pineapple curry was small. The service at this restaurant was perplexing. It seemed like the waiter purposefully wasn't paying attention to what we attempted to order, which led to the wrong food being served and a screwed up bill. Why, when the bill is incorrect, it always seems like you're overcharged and never the other way? How did a $25 lunch turn into a $40 plus lunch. I think if I went back to this restaurant, I would put our order in writing so there wouldn't be any need to sort of litigate the dining experience afterward. I don't recall ever having this confusing experience with the order and the bill at any other restaurant. I did pay what they requested and even tipped 15%, but what took place was strange and uncomfortable and left a bad taste in our mouths. I had drunken noodles with chicken along with Thai Tea. It was excellent. Perfectly seasoned, hot, with a good serving. It has cooked onions, peppers, carrots, celery, noodles and chicken. This place has been on a steady decline since 2021. Used to be very good and definitely the closest thing to authentic Thai cuisine here in town.
