The overlook provides acres of hiking lands, scenic overlooks and peaceful vistas, There is a lot to see as you wander the park. Hawks dance in the skies over the Tohickon creek. Rock climbers ascend and repel the massive rock formations. Squirrels and chipmunks scurry about. There are paths but not so much paved trails, but it is easy to roam without fear of loosing your bearings. Fences and rails provide safety if children are afoot, but fear not there are plenty of access to areas to climb and explore for avid hikers seeking a challenge.

The views of the gorge into the river at the beginning are really pretty. The trail we took went down to the river too. I'm not sure we followed an actual trail, but we walked around for 1-2 hours. If you're looking for hiking and very scenic views, this probably isn't your place. It's a good place to get outside and get some fresh air though.

There's some open areas, nice views and a bridge to the PA side. I'm at 4 stars is for the bathroom and water fountains. Those are crucial considering how long the Delaware Raritan Canal Trail is, unless you bring your own water or don't mind finding a tree and some leaves in the woods to use as a toilet.

My first review by campfire light…read more I came along with my boy scout son for a weekend at Tinicum Park in Erwinna, Pennsylvania, just across the Delaware River from Frenchtown, New Jersey. It is not a big park, but has a simple camp facility in an Ash grove a few hundred yards from the water. I remember campout food as being oddly delicious, even with the extra grit and rustic outdoor kitchen, but these days with lightweight stoves and propane flex lines, the campfire is just for night stories. Cooking is much easier, if somewhat less rewarding. Still, I don't think I'll ever get accustomed to deep fried Oreos. The Chicken Tenders and Penne with Ragu were decent after a hike into Frenchtown, and several hours of scout skill training, football, and boys being boys. I even found about 90 minutes to break away and return for R & R at the National Hotel and The Bridge Café while the boys were off on another adventure. Those reviews to follow. Tinicum may not be the first place you think of when considering an upriver jaunt, but if you are into a night or two of roughing it (with a run to Ftown for cocktail and lunch overlooking the river) than it might be the perfect spot to make magic happen.

My experience form beginning to end was fantastic. I think one thing that seems to bother most people is the BBQ lunch. The BBQ lunch was apart of my package and when I arrived they were just loading the buns to be taken out on the river. I'm getting a little ahead of myself here but you'll understand in a minute. When I arrived, there were already several eager adventurous folks checking in, buying waterproof items for sale, collecting their water rafts and some even already on the water. I checked in with my Groupon and as directed, I left my keys - collected my Kayak and proceeded to the bus. Please note, the rule is, everyone must wear a mask until you're actually on the water; great rule as it gets crowded in the shop as well as on the bus. It keeps everyone safe. I chose the kayak experience which was awesome but the real fun is in a tube. After my journey down the river, I immediately purchase another Groupon just so that I could come back and have a tubing experience. So, back to the BBQ lunch. By the time I paddles my way down (a few signs for the waters edge for direction) to the BBQ shack on the water, they were still setting up. I guess I paddle too fast. I decided to keep moseying down the river as I had already packed a lunch just in case after reading the reviews about the BBQ shack not being up and running. Oh well, next time I'll enjoy a burger. Again, this is the perfect mid week escape. The ride outside of NY is quick and there's plenty of parking. Although it says Delaware tubing it's actually located in New Jersey; well at least the border between the two. I would recommend going early and taking as much time as you like in a tube with family and friends. I would also recommend bringing children as they will develop a lifelong love of being on the water. I'm a big fan now and I can't wait to return in a few weeks. P.S. I was told by my bus driver, they offer a fall foliage experience where they only allow kayaks on the river.

We were scheduled to do a 1/2 day ice hike at Ricketts Glen. I had spoken to the owner Dave and…read morelet him know of my disabilities. He asked a few questions, then determined that it should be OK for me to go on the hike. Shortly before the hike we received an email from Dave saying that because of the warm weather the trip would not have as much ice as it normally does. He offered to reschedule or refund our money if we wanted, but also said we could go if we wanted. We wanted. When I got there Dave and the guides were fantastic. Very personable. They were helpful but without being intrusive. One of them carried one of my forearm canes in his backpack in case I needed it. (This was to have one hand free for the ice axe.) The hike was great. At the end of the hike I asked one of the guides if he thought I could do the repelling they offer... he conferred with the owner and the lead repeller guide, and they agreed that I would be allowed to do that in the Spring. I highly recommend Valley to Summit for a great time. I look forward to a full day ice hike in February.

There were only 5 of us, so plenty of time to climb. Our Guide, Bob, was so patient, engaged and informative. I learned a lot of great things that I had not known before about clothing, ropes and technique. Bob was so patient with me and was there with his " green pointer" to help me over the tough spots. You should know that I am 74 years old and tho I have climbed indoors for a few years, my stamina was not that of the youngsters who were there! Nonetheless, it was a great time! I highly recommend Valley to Summit, this being my 3 rd trip with them. They Rock!

The instructions were spot on. The weather was perfect! The river was limitless fun. I appreciated the physicality of the experience. A gigantic version of that swingset-clubhouse combo you bought at Costco only to rot in your backyard because spiders and rain made it so unpleasant for kids that they refuse to use it. It's that creepy clubhouse times 30! It's pretty much a regular playground with most kids swarming the swings and other play features with a few venturing into the old wood play structure. They go in once and don't go back in again. My son was cursed at by older boys who appeared beyond the age guidelines (and I was surprised to see them still interested in a playground). In the myopic darkness of the castle, my son banged his head when inside the dank structure there was suddenly an unmarked (unlit) drastic change in ceiling height. Needless to say this experience was a turn off. Most kids really preferred being out in daylight because the castle felt more like a dungeon. It was fun to see friends and we enjoyed the togetherness of the play date but unless I'm in the area and desperate for a kid distraction, I won't be back.
