What huge grounds! I'm attending an Art Festival…read more Lots of staff to guide you through parking. Lots of loos. Food booths and a wonderful oldies band. Great shopping . Oodles of crafts, pottery, stained glass, antiques & a piggy painting booth ($10 and a piggy creates a masterpiece-its for animal charities) I'd come back here ! Beautiful

My first review by campfire light…read more I came along with my boy scout son for a weekend at Tinicum Park in Erwinna, Pennsylvania, just across the Delaware River from Frenchtown, New Jersey. It is not a big park, but has a simple camp facility in an Ash grove a few hundred yards from the water. I remember campout food as being oddly delicious, even with the extra grit and rustic outdoor kitchen, but these days with lightweight stoves and propane flex lines, the campfire is just for night stories. Cooking is much easier, if somewhat less rewarding. Still, I don't think I'll ever get accustomed to deep fried Oreos. The Chicken Tenders and Penne with Ragu were decent after a hike into Frenchtown, and several hours of scout skill training, football, and boys being boys. I even found about 90 minutes to break away and return for R & R at the National Hotel and The Bridge Café while the boys were off on another adventure. Those reviews to follow. Tinicum may not be the first place you think of when considering an upriver jaunt, but if you are into a night or two of roughing it (with a run to Ftown for cocktail and lunch overlooking the river) than it might be the perfect spot to make magic happen.

We used to pass this park all the time but never turned in to check it out. This year, we finally…read moreturned in to look around and found that it has lots of picnic areas and an interesting birdwatching overlook. At that birdwatching station, they have an area full of birdbaths and other things to attract birds, so there were quite a variety of birds there. There's disc golf and a few areas for hiking as well, so it could be a nice place to continue exploring, especially since it's so close to home!

There is a lot of "free for all" shaded space to enjoy, though the grassy parts are a little hard and patchy so bringing chairs or a blanket with padding would do well for kids. There is a bird watching platform closer to the camping side. We didn't see any birds of prey but with the number of bird feeders we saw plenty of other little birds and critters scurrying around. Other than the road, there is no paved trail. If you turn in off of Joshua Rd., you end up on a one way loop. Don't panic. Just turn left at the first opportunity and you'll end up where you started from Joshua. If you turn right, then you get to the bird watching tower and camping area.
