I had to have a broken tooth extracted in March of 2023 which my general dentist could not handle,…read moreso the dentist referred me to an oral surgeon (Empire Oral Surgery). The appointment required well over a month, and I asked if the healthcare staff wore masks while performing the procedure and got an equivocal assurance that they did. When I arrived for the procedure I found that all the staff at the practice were not wearing masks of any kind, and when I asked if the attending surgeon would be wearing a mask I was told that he would not (you can read my May 18th review of Empire Oral Surgery if you want the details). I know that there is no longer any law requiring that healthcare workers wear masks and that politicians have declared that the COVID pandemic is over, but the pandemic is *not* over and the law often is wrong. I had to beat a retreat and then search for a surgeon who would observe basic biosafety protocols. I called my general dentist and asked for any other oral surgeons he might recommend and came away with a list of four. To their credit the first two offices were honest and said that they would not wear masks (one "No" and a second "Hell no") but the third, Dr. Gelder's office, said that they'd "take it under advisement" and get back to me. They called me back an hour later and said they'd wear masks for the procedure. I offered to furnish the N95 masks (sealed and factory stamped) but they said they had them on hand. The only problem was that they'd have to schedule the appointment two months out. I accepted and babied the broken tooth for the next couple of months. Once the appointment came I have to say the experience was completely different than Empire Oral Surgery. I was greeted by a nurse wearing an N95 mask, taken to a well-ventilated surgery suite, and was worked on by Dr. Gelder who also made a point of wearing an N95 mask while entering, administering anesthesia, performing the procedure, and suturing up/telling me how to handle aftercare. This was not a simple extraction: it involved a tooth that had vertically sheared and broken below the gum line, and it required a studied hand to handle it (believe me, in the five months I had to wait for this procedure I had plenty of time to read about it on the internet). Dr. Gelder and his nurse were extremely good at their work. If you want a very very good surgeon -- Dr. Gelder (and his nurse) are the people to go to. If you want someone who will respect your concerns about COVID -- Dr. Gelder (and his nurse) are the people to go to.

Dr. Gelder is amazingly gentle and communicates clearly recommendations and assessments. Staff…read morewere helpful and friendly and appointments were on time! Highly recommend!

He had xrays and I was sent there by my dentist with a message from her for an extraction. They tell me no this is just the consult. They had my health questions filled out on the email they sent me with meds and health issues filled out. I don't have a lot of time as I work full time and care for an ill family member on hospice. My time is limited. There is barely a tooth there as it was decayed under the crown. When I did see the dentist he asked me two questions stuck his finger in my mouth and said ok we can do this today but I have to fit you in. Two hour wait time. If they had told me that it was a consult I would not have taken the appointment. He may be a good surgeon but there was no communication. They asked me to be there at 720 and they didn't open the door until 730. Then they wanted a fee for a consult, that was a hard no. So no I would not recommend him. His office was all pretty furniture and big screen TVs but I feel it was just a little too foofoo and not enough medical.

My teeth are in rough shape right now, and after a horrible past dentist who basically wanted to pull everything out (trauma city), I was expecting the worst. Instead, I met Dr. Schwartz, and within minutes he had me feeling safe, cared for, and even laughing. Yes... actually laughing in a dentist's chair. Wild. He listened to me, he understood my fears, and at one point after hearing what I went through, he just looked at me with this gentle "you poor thing" energy -- but in the sweetest, most compassionate way. Not judgmental, not pitying... just genuinely kind. He has a great sense of humor, an incredibly gentle approach, and he made me feel human, not embarrassed. I left feeling relieved, grateful, and honestly shocked that I found a dentist I'm excited to go back to. If you're scared of dentists or carrying trauma from past experiences, please go see Dr. Schwartz. He changed everything for me.

While I have never had any major issues, I have been pleased over the last three visits. The check-in paperwork is electronic which makes a lot of sense to me in 2018 and it's simple to complete. I've never had to wait long for an appointment, either. Everything seems to run on time and everyone is friendly. My hygienist is gentle and friendly. They keep you with the same hygienist each time and they immediately schedule the appointment with you themselves after the cleaning. Dr. Schwartz has been my doctor. He is gregarious and seems thorough. I was pregnant and couldn't get x-rays during a couple of cleanings, but felt he inspected my teeth carefully. While it's in an unassuming building, this has been a great practice so far. I only withhold one star because I have never experienced anything beyond basic care there.

I had complained that one of the dentists who was my dentist was only there twice a month and he is now coming in more often. He is there once a week now and the other dentist that was only there twice week is now there every day. Many people don't handle criticism well so I really respect the doctors for listening and changing to make things better. They were extremely nice to me when i came in for my appointment which I did appreciate. I think Yelp is the best thing that ever happened because it makes everyone accountable for their actions no matter how big the company or important the individual is. And no she was not a new employee. I was hung up on and was asked if I wanted to cancel the remaining of my appointments. The only thing I called there for was to ask what the next step in my dental treatment was going to be. The dentist that is going to do my root canal called them and spoke directly to the dentist that was treating me and no one including the rude office manager had no clue what I was talking about. I was told we have no record anything that you are talking about so moving forward when you call here listen to what is being told to you and give us the respect that we are due. I tried to explain to her that I was sitting there when the other dentist called them the office manager continued to over talk me and would not listen to anything I had to say. She hung up on me twice. If you are loosing records/notes and being that disrespectful what are you going to do during the procedure that I will be paying you to preform on my mouth. No thanks keep your unorganized services and disrespect.

Last summer I had a procedure done. Because I had to have 3 appointments (2 for the procedure and 1 for the follow up, I was given a break down of how much I would be charged for each visit. I do not have dental insurance. Today was my follow up appointment. When I checked in the receptionist informed me the cost would be about 3.5 times more. When I questioned her about the discrepancy the manager (Amanda) came over. I explained everything to her and was told she was new and that rules and prices had changed. I asked if she would be able to print out a copy of the price list I received over the summer. Amanda told me it wasn't on the computer after shouting at the receptionist (who had a hearing impairment). This manager showed me a list of what I needed to have done today, including an x ray. I said I didn't think I needed one, but would discuss it with my dentist during my appointment. Amanda said I could not go back for my appointment until I signed the paper indicating I would pay for all the items on the list. I again said that I would like to discuss these "necessities" with my health care provider since this was not part of the plan last time I was in the office. I have never left the dentist office without paying any bill in full. She then gave me a paper telling me I can sign it for them to send my file to another office. I did so and left. I have never had such a rude and disrespectful interaction with any "professional ". I am disgusted and will not be returning.
