I'll start by stating that I chose this office because I have dental anxiety and I was able to make an appointment quickly to limit the chance that I'd chicken out. I got an appointment the next day. I told them about anxiety and the assured me they can work with me. I went and got the initial X-rays and intake stuff done and the reviewed their recommendations. They were extensive as I've avoided the dentist for years, so I wasn't surprised. I made an appointment to start with a cleaning. They explained that they would do the cleaning in 2 parts, again because I'd not had a cleaning in a while. I made it through the first appointment and found the hygienist to be very kind, patient, and accommodating, so on the care part I was as happy as I'm going to be given my anxiety. I made an appointment for the 2nd half of the cleaning about 1 1/2 weeks later. As that appointment approached I got the typical reminder email. It asked me to confirm, which I did. Then I got a text to confirm, which I also did. Then a phone call the day before my appointment. I didn't answer because I was busy and presumed it was just another reminder. Fast forward to me walking into the office 15 minutes ahead of my appointment, only to be told that they won't see me because they hadn't spoken to me when they called to confirm yesterday. ZERO communication at ANY POINT that this was a requirement. I had already paid for services through finishing the cleaning. I don't have time to screw around with MULTIPLE responses to confirm. If a patient has been consistently late or been a no-show, fine, make them answer , but having already confirmed twice it is unacceptable that they cancelled my appointment. Additionally, they'd already billed my insurance, which I can't get back. They refunded my money, but they billed insurance for services that the didn't complete. If they're going to have a policy that you MUST verbally confirm, they NEED to tell you...not just cancel an appointment. read more

So I called that it's been dental and made an appointment they call me back to get my insurance information I told him I had United healthcare gave them the number ID number on the card I asked if there was going to be a copay they said no so I appreciated to continue with the call ongo and very confirmation of the woman for today Thursday April 2nd when I got to have been done on balltown road favorite City to tell me that oh we couldn't process your insurance card and that's me for my insurance card when I give it to them they said oh we don't accept United healthcare dual complete but they didn't tell me the phone when I told him yesterday I had you done healthcare gave them the number ID number they proceeded in the dental office to tell me that they would give me a coupon I could pay with cash but that's not going to work on disabled on a fix income they didn't tell me on the phone yesterday when I gave them the insurance card information that they do not accept UnitedHealthcare dual complete so I spent 30 bucks on an Uber thanks a lot what a waste as dental is probably one of the where is Donald's office I have ever been to I wasn't even in there for 5 minutes what a waste do not go to this place read more

Terribly run office. They over book appointments and each appointment takes 2 hours AT LEAST

I have been waiting literally 3+ months for a refund for procedure they did without checking if my insurance covered it. The amount of legwork for such a small refund and to get my account right is insanity. I am still waiting. Sad because I really like the rest of the staff and the work they do is great. The way they process and submit to insurance is the issue and if it does not go through they want you to do the legwork of getting it to pass. I'm just going to have to go up to corporate at this point, I just get short replies and no resolution from the office mgr. Why be mad at me? I am never rude and just trying to get basic customer service here for a procedure that I did not want / was charged for due to the way insurance was submitted. I had 2 dental insurances to which they are in the network, yet in order to receive services, I had to sign for a pending $3000 Genesis loan, which I assured them I would not need. I went to have an upper appliance fabricated. They took xrays and made a preliminary mold. every appt. thereafter was with a different dentist. None of which worked on making or fitting for the appliance. I told them I had pain from an old root canal. I believe antibiotics were prescribed and a referral back to the dentist who did the root canal. One of their dentists wanted to extract my molars despite there being no cavities or problem. The next one wanted to extract all my lower teeth. Again with no rational on other than a bit of wiggle looseness. I think I went there for 6 weeks and the appliance was never done. Each time I went they treated me like a new patient. It was the most bizarre experience I have ever had at a dentists office. I stopped going as they were not providing the service I requested but appeared to be offering unnecessary procedures instead. read more

Horrible treatment of my son. He went there to have a tooth extracted, he went up to the desk twice to find out when he'd be getting in, he was in horrible pain. The lady in charge came out and told him you can leave, the dentist refuses to see you. Why, because he asked twice when he would get in, he waited more than an hour. They are all classless people. The bill would have been $3,000! We went to Dr. Smail's office in Latham, they were just wonderful, classy and kind. I highly recommend Dr. Snail and we paid $1,100 cheaper than Aspen! read more

I have been to the Amsterdam Aspen Dental office many times and they are in the business of billing! not patient care. I went in because of tooth pain and instead of helping me out I went in 3 times so they could keep billing my insurance for more and more X-rays including 3D X-rays then they ended up removing the one that was hurting. I had an emergency happen and lost a filling and they won't even agree to fill it without more X-rays and exams, then they will discuss the emergency I called about, a lost filling! I think they are just greedy people & interested in Health CARE! read more

I went to Aspen dental in Mohawk Commons in the beginning of December and was quoted $600 for two extractions but I had to wait until now to have them extracted and when I went back for a recheck on them, they insisted on doing x-rays again after I just had x-rays done in December and the quote that they gave me now is $1900 . I asked them why the price went from $600 to $1900 within a few months, but they had no answer for me. and this was all for just two extractions and they're not even molars just regular teeth. I would give this place 0 stars if I could. I had to wait 3 months to get a dental surgery date and suffer with DAILY tooth pain. I also paid in advance $5200. I need to get multiple teeth taken out because of abscesses and cavities. This place LITERALLY calls me the morning off to cancel my appointment saying the surgeon is sick and this is after a long weekend. I took vacation from my job this week to get this addressed. Interesting follow-up: I get the sorry-and-can-we-talk note from Aspen Dental customer-satisfaction. I call and have a very satisfactory conversation, which leads to another conversation with Tammy (presumably the practice manager at AD's other Schenectady-area office). She's going to fix things and her dentist speaks English. Not that she's really able to do much; that office is very very busy. OK, says I, and we book -- though I'm up front that I'll be looking for a less -- overwhelmed... -- operation. Tammy calls back 20 minutes later to cancel the appointment. It seems she had a heart-to-heart with her opposite number, and solidarity won out over profit. Not greatly concerned, as not much was on the table at this point. But I still don't get back my cap (left behind as I hurried to cast the Aspen Dental dust from my tootsies). _____ Avoid this place. The support staff is pretty decent, but the dentist they sent in to actually do the work I needed on a broken tooth had the personality of a borderline sociopath. I was there to start the process for a crown on the broken tooth; Dr. Birman wanted to extract a completely different tooth that was presenting no problems. Mind, having a conversation with him was difficult; he refused to stay where I could see him. I walked out. The practice manager decided that was OK; better to keep the dubious dentist happy than collect a few grand for a crown and subsequent services. read more

I was wary about coming to my cleaning appointment but my experience was very positive. Quick and easy, very accommodating. I also had a filling done, the Dr was very nice, had a good sense of humor, did a fantastic job on my tooth. read more

I was trying to make an appointment for my boyfriend to get an extraction and root canals and after I heard what they were going to charge for a simple extraction I about lost my mind. They wanted to charge his insurance over a grand to pull ONE tooth. I called my oral surgeon and was able to get his records to them and they were shocked at that price. They looked at his records and advised $500 is the most they charge for extractions but they believe it will be closer to $300 with local anesthesia. When I had a similar tooth pulled it was $250 with them total. We have insurance but we still have to pay 20% out of pocket of the total cost. They also wanted us to pay up front before a consult with the endodontist. This was priced before he was seen by anyone there. No thanks. Aspen dental does extremely shoddy work and will railroad u!!! Had a cap put on , it came off 2 years later. They claimed a cavity had formed and I needed a root canal for a few thousand more. Another Dentist told me I had No cavity and did not need a root canal!! Con ARTISTS....criminal!! AVOID!! read more

Overall, worst experience I've ever encountered. An inexperienced hygienist wouldn't do a general cleaning after claiming my gums were "too sensitive therefore I have gingivitis." She was probing them with a sharp tool that would have made anyone jump. I overheard the same line minutes before when she was examining another patient. This would require an expensive deep cleaning. I've never heard of this or ever had issues with my gums. I left and made an appointment with another dentist, who was able to do a regular cleaning 2 days later. On top of this, several other repairs were recommended, requiring 7 additional separate visits. Excessive work has always been a flag to me. I assure you, my teeth aren't in terrible condition. Aspen was a huge waste of my time. I was there for over 2 hours and all they were able to do were some X-rays. Now there's a 14-15 day wait to have these X-rays sent to my new dentist. I was in need of dental work, and after-visiting a few dental offices I went to Aspen dental in Schenectady, N.Y. I discussed my health issues with Tracy Carey the office manager. I'm on heavy blood thinners due to heart problems and Tracy assured me they could handle my issues. She introduced me to Dr Birman who gave me a free exam. I needed eleven teeth removed for an upper plate and due to my health problems the office was in contact with my cardiologist in Florida. It was decided that the blood thinners would be suspended prior to the procedure and that only novocaine would be used with no sedation. Dr Birman did the procedure with no pain with his nurse Erica who explained everything going on during the procedure. In all my years I have never been with a dentist who is gentle and caring about his patients comfort. The dentist, office mananger, office staff and nursing staff are outstanding!! My appt was scheduled for 10:15 and they told me to arrive 15 min early. I arrived 20 min early and waited almost an hour to be seen. When I booked my appt, I specifically told the women I need a cleaning and exam and the cleaning was the only reason I was coming in as a new patient. After being called in, they did xrays and then put me in the chair where I waited another 20-30 min for the dentist. The dentist came, looked at my teeth for literally one minute and that was it. When it came time to check out I had to wait another 10 min- the women checking me out asked me when I would like to schedule my next appt for fillings and a cleaning. The dentist never told me I had to do any fillings- he looked at my teeth and walked away. Go here if you have time to kill and want to keep coming back for multiple appts. DO NOT GO TO THIS OFFICE!!!!! DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT. I read a couple of positive reviews about this office before scheduling my first appointment in May 2012. I had to wait in the office for 40 minutes after my appointment time, and when I finally got to see the actual dentist (after x rays and another 20 minutes of waiting), she rushed through my "exam," was rough with my oral cancer screening, and my jaw ached for hours afterward. The dentist recommended that I get 4 dental implants "in the future" after I saved up the $15,000+ for the cost. Then, went I went to check out, I was made to meet with the office manager for an estimate for these implants, which I didn't plan to get at the time. To make a long story short, the office manager, Josh Smith, opened a credit card (Care Credit) account without my permission -- I never signed an application, and he didn't even tell me that he was applying for me. THEN, after he told me that my first monthly payment would be due next month, I realized that he was trying to charge me UP FRONT for a surgery that I hadn't even scheduled or had a consult for!!! When I told him that I didn't want the surgery, he insisted that I call the periodontist and set up an appt with him, for which he wanted me to pay $97 right now. Ridiculous!!! I walked out without paying anything, thank goodness, but others were not so lucky/smart. I watched other patients meet with the office manager after their appointments while I was sitting in the waiting area too. I am now trying to file a dispute for my credit line. Trust me, you don't want to go through this hassle. I won't ever go to an Aspen Dental again, and you shouldn't either!! read more
