He mangled the stacked wooden heels while taking the old heel tips off, then nailed on cheap plastic ones instead of replacing the original leather with higher quality ones. Then he failed to recognize the distressed nature of the leather (their original state obviously visible underneath the straps around the boots) and actually took it upon himself to polish them, darkening the color and destroying the texture. He even polished the stacked wooden heels, one with brown polish, the other with black. When I went to pick up the boots I said they were the wrong color, the wrong texture and he should never have polished them, he said, "Take your boots and get out of here. I don't need people like you in here." I wrote a complaint to BBB, which he ignored. Had he made some effort to make good on his error I would never have written a bad review. These were $300 boots and he ruined them.

The sandals were handed back tacky, with paint splotches on the soles and sides of the shoe that I had to point out and ask them to clean off. The final result was mediocre and clearly rushed. When I politely requested a discount for the delay and quality issues, the owner made defensive personal excuses about her livelihood, dismissing my concerns and making the interaction uncomfortable. To make matters worse, the staff then spoke negatively about me in Spanish right in front of me, apparently assuming I didn't understand. Roselle Shoe Repair gave me an extremely difficult time and did not refund my money until after (1) I left and came back with a police officer and (2) the cobbler removed the two elastics from my sling-backs without restoring the original elastics. So I now have a pair of un-usable sling-back heels with their slings disconnected. I should have never agreed to him taking them out without replacing the original elastics, but I am not the best at making deals under stress and I tend to concede very quickly. The cobbler refused to show his face to me and had a woman cover for him. An Old-World craftsman would have seen the poor work and just refunded my money. A true Old-World craftsman from Italy or Spain or a made in America craftsman would have never let such poor work pass to a customer. Detail shows the talent or lack thereof. Warning: I always try to pay cash to small businesses but no more. My advice is to pay by credit card. If you end having to dispute, the credit card company will always side with the customer unless there is blatant foul play by the customer. The person who meet me was Simon who was a very nice younger guy that just was a pleasure to talk to. I told him the stain was either had a lamb or olive oil and that I didn't exactly what it was. The stain happened at a wedding and to be honest I think someone bumped into me which was why I didn't know exactly what it was and I think the methods change depending on what the stain is. The stain was pretty large, and I was worried that it was to late. He said they would try their best and they might be able to get it out. A few days later I got a text that my garment was ready and when I picked it up, the stain was completely gone. He said they did have to treat it several times but they got it completely out. I couldn't be happier. They will have my business for the foreseeable future as this was such a great experience and I have been looking for a good dry cleaner for a while now. As a side note, you do pay for your garment when you drop it off. Something that I haven't really done before but it isn't a bother. Just if you pay cash that might be good to know.
