I've been a fool for not taking advantage of this marvelous place sooner. Better late than never though! The Toco Hill-Avis G. Williams branch of the DeKalb County Public Library system was built about five years ago, so the building is still newish. The window-heavy design lets in lots of sun and provides terrific views of the woods around the library. Mason Mill Park is just a hop away too so you can piggyback a library excursion onto a park trip. The librarian who helped get us our library cards was incredibly kind and welcoming. The other employees are pretty nice too. Anyway, I elected to get the limited edition card which reads "Proud Card-Carrying Know-It-All" which I find hilarious. If you're not a know-it-all, you can opt for the classic card with the library's dogwood logo. This isn't the biggest library ever, but I have yet to leave empty-handed. The CD and DVD areas usually turn up something I want to listen to or view. I'm so behind on TV shows so I was excited to spot series that I wanted to check out. Also, you have the entire library system at your disposal so if this branch doesn't currently have what you're looking for, it can be sent over from another branch. You can return items to any DeKalb library location. If Avis G. Williams is closed, there's a drop located to the left of the entrance. Books and CDs can be checked out for three weeks, DVDs for one week. Minor criticisms: the place isn't open on Sunday, hours a bit limited during the week, the ebooks selection could be larger. I love ebooks...no more dealing with clunky ten pound hardcovers. Technology is amazing. Great local resource for the whole family!

Found this place on a walk on the way to Mason Mills/ Peachtree Path. The ladies at the checkout desk were nice, friendly, and informative. I was able to obtain a library card and change my address for voting. They have neat programs for kiddies and ways to obtain free passes to educational activities around Atlanta like the zoo and puppetry museum. The children's collection was nice and I was especially appreciative of there collection of African American books. The books we checked out are in good condition. The library is nice, clean, and quiet. Definitely worth the stop.

I actually stumbled on the Toco Hill - Avis G. Williams Library branch. I was finishing up a walk with a friend at Mason Mill park, and I noticed this branch. I came back a few days later with book in hand for study purposes, and I didn't realize that this was a newer library. Everthing inside just looked new, clean, up to date and it clearly was a community favorite, because the library was VERY full. There are several computer stations, with even several stations for little kids and a glass case enclosed study area in the center of the library for teens. Finally there's a general laptop area. Not the largest library, and this is why Toco Hill doesn't get 5 stars from me. Notice all those computer stations/areas I was going on and on about? Well, they take up space, and I was looking for a little study cubicle to plop down on. There was a small corner filled with a few of them, and that was it. There are tables spread about, but sadly, as I walked around the library looking for a seat/table to go to, there just weren't any. I supposed getting here early is a way to snag a seat. I got here around 3pm on a weekday, so maybe i'll come back at 10am and seating will be a little easier to find. There's a private parking lot here, with plenty of spaces, as well as an outdoor book return. As this branch is right next to a park, there are lots of trees around, which is a good thing. I'd definitely come back because I enjoyed this library. I do wish there were more tables for studying, but the early bird gets the worm. Keep that in mind as you pay them a visit!

Great library. RUDE "security" guard. And almost as hot as it was outside (93 degrees for reference) if I could give it a zero I would.

This library is a really nice one. It's quiet and spacious. My only complaint is that the Wi-Fi isn't very fast.

I've been to most of the presidential libraries. This is less fancy than others. No boastful…read morewartime tales like Eisenhower. No scandal like Clinton's. No WWII like FDR. No bomb like Truman. But that's Jimmy's style. This is probably the most apolitical "makes everyone happy" museum there is. It really focuses on his wins, especially in the Middle East peace accords. Doesn't mention the Reagan scam to hold the Iranian hostages until after the election. Doesn't say anything about his unpopularity or how he handled it. Downplays the energy crisis (but doesn't avoid it altogether). Glosses over his loss of the White House. Talks a lot about his humanitarian feats, and that's okay, because that's the crux of the Jimmy Carter presidency and the majority of his life after. The museum also focuses more on the First Lady, Rosalyn, more than any other museum I have in memory. If you watch the 15 minute film in the beginning, it tells you everything you're going to see in the museum. Maybe that makes the mental work easier, but also a little boring. The Jimmy Carter library is the only one I've seen that offers so many activities to take throughout the museum, including word searches, crosswords, and quiz sheets. I really like this because it is Jimmy's spirit--engage children and others to interact with the world around them and think about how to make it better. I think I paid 12 dollars to enter, which is more than fair. The staff was super kind and accommodating. Worth a stop if you're nearby, but I don't know if I would pull off the interstate to see.

The exterior of the building is beautiful with a pool leading up to the entrance. The pool is blue and undamaged (take notes Trump). There is a walking path with a pond in the back along with a Japanese garden in the back. There are also statues and separate buildings for research and a peace retreat. Inside the Museum, there is the usual gift shop to get your token souvenirs. The museum is setup in chronological order starting with him growing up on a farm in Southern Georgia, his military service in WW2, his rise in local politics, his Presidency and then in my opinion his most impactful part, his post Presidency. The displays are very well done with artifacts through all phases of his life. They have his paperwork from his military service, gifts given to him while president from other heads of state, his Nobel Peace Prize, and lots of other stuff. During his presidency, they have a timeline wall with pop culture events that happened during that time. The mock Oval Offices are always my favorite part of these museums. I like to see what each president had in their offices. Jimmy was far from a great President, but he was a phenomenal man. The museum does a great job of capturing all of it.

Such a beautiful little library!…read more Ever since I was little my dad instilled a love of libraries and books in me. Buying books is amazing, but supporting our local library system is even better. And lucky for all of us here in Atlanta, we have some fantastic libraries to choose from, no matter where you are across our counties. This local library is in East Atlanta and offers only a bit of parking, but there's never truly a struggle to find a spot. It's a small, but mighty location and offers a wide range of media options to choose from. There are 2 rooms that you can use for meetings/studying, a line of computers and multiple places to sit and read your books when you're visiting. It was so quiet, comfortable and chill in there, an easy place to get lost within the books and your imagination! I loved that there was a large children's area, full of books for the little ones and space for them to roam about. I'm aging myself because I was blown away by the self-checkout machines, lol. My last city library didn't have that and it was great to see them equipped with that new technology. It was hiccuping a bit when I was ready to checkout so I opted to go the old-fashioned route, but minutes later it was back up again. My only constructive criticism is wishing that there was an 24/7 dropbox. (Unless I'm missing it!) This is a lovely branch that really showcases how amazing the library system is here in Atlanta!

Clearly, I was not homeless, and they could have asked to see my library card, AND you can't enforce a made-up rule. The Mayor needs to fire them to see how they like being homeless!
