Truth be told, I stumbled upon the Dekalb County Wesley Chapel public library branch while I was…read morejust in the area looking for dinner, A couple days later, I came back to see if it was a good place to study. This branch is a lot more spacious than I considered it being, with a series of tables in the center of the library as you walk in, and a couple of rows of computer stations on either side of the library. A childrens section of the lbrary found on the right hand side is nicely sized, with rows of childrens books and tables for them, and on the left there are more study areas and rows of general population library books. I took a seat at one of the central tables, all the way at the back of the library, and there's a nice mostly glass wall that gives you a great look of the outdoors. Unfortunately, it didn't seem that any of these tables had any electrical outlets near them, although I didn't need one at the time. One thing that started to drive me crazy is every 5 or 10 minutes, a large crowd would come in, talking like they were in an amusement park. I.e. super loud. I was all set to give this branch maybe 3 stars until I left the library shortly after. When I left, there was a children's event going on in one of the private rooms to the right of the entrance, complete with music, lights, balloons and happy kids. Beyond that, there's so much more to do, like learning spanish, learning chess, having an ice cream social (Rhythm and Rhymes) and safety/reading with a cop. It's clear to see that the wesley chapel library branch is every bit a pillar of this community, serving children and adults alike! Is this place super duper loud? It can be. Should that stop you from coming? I don't think so....and if you live in the area, this is a great place you need to be, especially if you have kids. As the interior is spacious, so too is the exterior, having a decent amount of parking. Enough to hold more than 50 cars i'd say. Getting in is very easy. Getting out is a one way exit (to the right), so if you want to go left, you gotta go down a light and make a u turn....or simply cut across illegally....I don't judge. I did get some studying done, and while I was interrupted from time to time, this branch at Wesley Chapelserves a great many of people, and for that alone, I have to bump them up a star. Great community scene!

I'm not an Emory student, however the universities in Georgia have all agreed to make their libraries accessible to all college students in rolled in Georgia. So if you get distracted at your own college library because you run into everyone you know ever and instead of hard core studying, you end up ordering pizza and sneaking in beers to party in the upper halls (not me of course), I suggest you study at Emory's library. Just call the front desk to find out the hours available for visitors and to ask about parking - you don't want a $50 dollar parking ticket. My favorite room is silent hall on the second floor. After two years and $20 million in renovations, the doors of the Auburn Avenue Research Library…read morereopened earlier this month. Was the time and money worth it? Totally! All the upgrades I've seen have improved the experience for visitors. They include a new auditorium on the first floor and art & exhibits throughout the facility. Auburn has always held a special place among libraries since it houses a collection of African American books and documents of literary, cultural and historical significance. Last week, I visited in search of Mahalia Jackson's cookbook. I've been told that her legendary voice was only rivaled by her skills in the kitchen. That's saying a lot so I wanted to check it out for myself. Or should I say see for myself. You can't actually check out any of the books in the Auburn Library. They treat everything like reference desk materials only for onsite review. But if you find anything interesting you can make copies for 10 cents/page. Note also that they restrict access to the internet. You can use desktop computers to search their online library catalog. Beyond that there's no access for other purposes, even on your own laptop. Clearly, they want people using the research materials and not surfing the internet. As a result it feels like there's more seating here than at other branches. The second floor reading room has long desks with tabletop outlets and lots of room to spread out. I had an entire table to myself and it was so quiet that I could hear my fingertips flipping through the pages. I liked the old Auburn Library but I love Auburn 2.0. It's like-new, clean, quiet, and full of resources you can't find elsewhere. I encourage everyone to visit while it still has its new car smell.

The construction itself is wonderfully crafted and the inside consists of three floors. I spent most of my time on the second floor where I used one of the three nice microfilm machines. You can't bring liquids or food into the reading room so they have a nice set of lockers right outside the room so you can lock your items up. This space is really a community space, especially for the minority members that they serve. It's a great place to study and read. Parking can be a bit difficult though, but it's doable.

FFWD to 3 days ago when I ran out of ink for my printer at the house and it was faster (and cheaper) to go to the library and print instead of running out for more ink. Let me start off by saying this is nowhere near the largest library I've ever been in but it still is pretty cozy to me. It's bigger than the Sue Kellogg branch in Stone Mountain. Redan-Trotti has more computers, tables, and seating thus making it a comfortable spot to read and study. The bathrooms here are usually clean as well. There's also a copy machine but no fax machine. The only downfall is that I can't bring in any food or drinks... which is understandable because some people are messy and there's carpet, computers, and books that people could mess up. I still wish I could bring in my coffee though for my reading/studying sessions. With Redan-Trotti's humble size yet the right amount of equipment (and furniture,) this will be my go-to library as long as I'm living in DeKalb.
