Whilst visiting my parents in the area and in preparation for a wedding I ended up going to Scruples for gel nails. As ever I'm rather last minute and rang up on the day....they managed to squeeze me in despite fairly hectic diaries which I appreciated. On arrival there was a heavy smell of nail products which instantly gave me a bit of a headache,I noticed the decor looked old and weathered and although asked if I had booked I wasn't told to take a seat or if I would be waiting. So maybe I was quick to judge and was thinking this might not be the best of salons.....I take that judgement back! I was shown through to the back pretty quickly where someone kindly started prepping my nails. They were bubbly and friendly and it was easy to have a chat and feel comfortable. Jo helped me decide on the best colour and spent more time than some might have on cuticle preparation after a bit of neglect on my part. The quality of the finish was superb and I was aware that the treatment overran beyond her working hours. If she wasn't happy about that she didn't let it show. Although the manicure/pedicure took around an hour I wasn't offered a drink so maybe it's the little touches that are missing from salons I've been to in cities like Leeds and Newcastle. Also the staff shout to each other so its not as relaxing as some. Overall not a bad salon!

It's paid off though as I've won many a prize over the last few years, most recently being a cut and blow dry from the lovely people at Salon 57. It could be argued that as it was a freebie it wouldn't be a balanced review but I honestly found both the manager (Debbie) and the guy who cut my hair (I think it was Jack) to be welcoming and friendly, with a genuine desire to provide a great service and a bit of pamper time- so much so Debbie kept my little one amused when she started to get cranky. I got a lovely head massage during my hair wash (is there anything nicer?) and after a consultation with Jack about what I wanted doing I left with a haircut I'm really happy with, beautifully styled. I've been in search of a good hairdresser since my beloved long-time hair saviour moved away and I will happily return paying full dollar next time I need a cut and blow dry.

This is my new favorite shop…read more Sophie and her staff are amazing. They know everything about nails and nail varnish. Sophie is an OPI trained nail technician. They have a vast collection of OPI, China Glaze and Konad to name a few. Prices are very reasonable for the varnishes and treatments. I have received a number of treatments and I have loved them all. My replacement acrylic nails were perfectly done. They are now doing Swarovski crystal toes!! Which will be my next appointment! I would, and have, highly recommended this shop to my family and friends and any nail conscious lady. Sophie and her staff are more than happy to assist you with any enquiries you have whether it's about treatments, nails, varnishes etc. Nothing is too much trouble for them.

My second review of Re'Voil Hair and Beauty, as my first one, however honest, was removed…read more I did not get the cut I asked for/described to the stylist at this salon, and had to have it corrected elsewhere, although the good points included friendly staff and decent prices. I was served coffee from a chipped, dirty mug - one of my bugbears - however, I did receive an apology from the salon's proprietor and the offer of a free haircut. Not a place I'd recommend.
