I think perhaps I've become a bit of a 'London Snob' because I assumed Titanic would be nice, but…read moresurely the ones in London would be better? Wrong! Titanic Spa is truly excellent, and certainly not a poor northern imitation.
I booked an overnight stay for Mrs D and myself for her Christmas present, originally pencilled in for Valentine's Day (that's right, two presents in one. Smooth right?) but due to some pregnancy related issues, we needed to move the booking to her birthday weekend in October. The bookings team were great at accommodating the change, and did so at no extra cost.
When we arrived, we changed into our fluffy brown dressing gowns (I think there is only one size, so I looked a bit ridiculous, as if I was wearing a child's gown, but I was determined to be chilled) and checked out the facilities. Our apartment was really tastefully converted into a split-level 1 bed, with a double height ceiling in the lounge and a mezzanine bedroom. Who doesn't want a balcony inside their apartment? I think if you looked to rent this place in central London, it would cost upwards of £1200 per month!
The spa itself has all of the facilities you might expect, and some you maybe wouldn't. Different types of steam rooms, with varying aromas, plunge pools, the ice bucket, multiple saunas, a 15m swimming pool with a swim-in jacuzzi, an OUTDOOR hot tub (which I didn't use, I mean come on, it's October) and even a mudding chamber (charged extra) so you can feel like Louis Litt from Suits.
The unexpected highlight for me though was the food. I had a tasty prawn linguine at lunch time, but the belly pork and black pudding I had for dinner was sublime!
We each had 3 treatments. We started with a 1 hour full body massage in the VIP room together which was nice, I opted for a deep tissue massage to get the baby-related knots out and it felt quite nice, but I enjoyed the facial much more which surprised me. It was so relaxing! We both then booked our 3rd treatments, Mrs D had a hand moisturising treatment, I opted for another back and shoulder massage, just to get the last few knots out!
After an uninterrupted 9 hour sleep, (something we haven't had for 12 weeks) we checked out and made our way to Huddersfield train station (£6 in a taxi) feeling well and truly refreshed!
When I thought of luxury and relaxation, Huddersfield wasn't at the forefront of my mind before, but it is now!
