Charged me $123 for a used battery, bought back in may 11th, 2024. Took it back today because I'm having to jump start my car every single time i get in my car. I walk in and they tell me they sell them for $49 for used batteries. Not only did they charge me double they are scamming people out of their money. I bought a battery from them 18 months ago. It States on the receipt free battery replacement within a 24 month period. I've taken it back twice since Feb of 2024. I dropped the battery off Tues 6/4/2024 in the afternoon. As of this post I haven't heard a word from them about it. I've had to jump start my truck with their piece of crap battery ever since I bought it. Their response,"you need to drive your truck more". It's the freaking battery not how often I drive my truck. They sell junk products and the people working there are rude and don't give a rats ass about customer service. Just a bunch of idiots that don't know what they are doing. Driving our '97 F-250 into Spokane today, two weary 12+ year old batteries were faltering. It became pretty clear I could end up stranded and a tow might take control of my schedule. It was nothing but luck that I was closest to Toby's Battery on N. Crestline & Foothills Boulevard. Afraid to turn-off the truck, I phoned and was assured the two batteries I'd need were in-stock and could be installed right there. A price was quoted, seemed fair and off I went. The young masked man who helped me offered I could remain and watch the replacement or could wait inside the tidy business waiting room. I chose to observe the process. Asking the installer about himself, boy did he make my day. He (Jason Holdren) started at Toby's when he was nineteen, thoroughly enjoying the work and the owner. After nineteen years of gainful employment and unable to imagine working for any other, it came as quite a shock to Jason and his fellow employees to learn the owner was selling. It was even more a shock that the owner thought Jason should buy the business, including their three locations. Jason was given right of first refusal, and the owner even agreed to carry the sales contract personally. That was one year ago and all fifteen employees were elated to learn the new boss was Jason. His first year in business as owner found him changing very little. The former owner ran a tight and profitable ship with a contented and loyal crew so no need to alter such a sound course. But big changes came just before the first anniversary of his ownership. On December 21 Jason and his partner welcomed a son. It was a pleasure meeting Jason who'll be celebrating twenty years at Toby's this Spring. Everyone there seemed grateful for my business and respectful of my health and safety with well-fitted masks. Dropped off car on Friday; they told me it would be 3 to 4 business days before they could look at my vehicle. Toby's calls me the following Monday, said it was fixed. I paid up in full via a CC over the phone; the bill was just under $400. I told the man I was out of town and that my wife was sick; we would pick it up the following Mon. His answer??? $35 a day in storage. No where on their property does it state vehicles must be picked up in any amount of time after service; the work ticket/invoice had no date; as well as dropping the car off, no mention of the need to pick up the car within X amount of completion of work. The $35 day rebuttal to no arguing, paying in full immediately and explaining the situation???? Cheap, and bullyish;. Won't go there again read more

Toby's must be under new management. I have gone to them with my battery isssues since they moved into that location and have always recieved more than I paid for in service. This time I wanted a battery replaced in my vehicle. I delivered the vehicle at around 8:30 AM. I was told they would call me in an hour to let me know how things were going. I did not recieve a call from them and in fact had to call them at 12:30 PM. I was told that they "had just finished" With the interesting tidbit that my battery had been producing no amps... which I knew, because the battery would not hold a charge, hence the need for a battery replacement. I wanted a battery replaced and was confused what would take so long. Now, I realize that the battery set up in my vehicle is not old school, you need to take a heat sink off and all that. But in 4 hours they had not replaced my battery. Apparently it took 4 hours for them to figure out that it didn't hold a charge. It seems they misdiagnosed the issue as when fresh run the vehicle's battery pumped out plenty of amps to roll it over. So, they chose not to call me again and I had to call back at 3:30 PM. It was done and I was told that the paperwork was " On the desk " in front of the person on the phone. I walked the 2 minutes from home to the location and the paperwork was still printing. The kicker. $333 to replace a battery. Somehow they had decided that I needed a diagnosis. I didn't need a diagnosis, nor did I request one. A little over 1/3 of the price was not needed or requested. I did pay the full amount. I informed them that there would be no chance to have this conversation in the future. read more

I bring my Ford f 250 driving from AAMCO to repair an electric issue with the transmission Toby's idiots never find the problem just keep calling me adding hours of "WORK" according to them just to charge me $1020.00 dollar's and the issue wasn't fix and on top I have to tow my truck out of the place to take it to a real shop. Not recommended they will rip you off I have two other people that they have similar cases with Toby's. read more

On my way to work this morning my Car was acting funny, so I stopped at Toby's! They discovered corrosion. They cleaned the battery and installed new battery post for me. I had no money, I told them that I didn't get paid until the following day, and they still fixed my car for me to make it to work. It is places Like this I will always support!!! I had multiple trips to my regular mechanic shop including a tow, and they could not find the problem. I had bought a new battery from them. I had over 7 calls for jump starts and waiting 1 plus hours each time. Sometime it worked but sometimes not. My neighbors were likely annoyed. I do not recommend this place at all! they have had my car five days and done absolutely nothing to it! we dropped it off asking to have the window motor and the windshield wiper motor fixed in the back hatch and it's taking the five days to do nothing. they don't communicate at all! I had to call day after day to ask and today they wanted to tell me they are waiting for me to approve more time! time for what? they haven't done anything at all!! I'm paying for them to do nothing and lie about it! they take advantage of people! my car sat in the same spot for five days! cost me almost $300 for nothing and they want to laugh at me! Decent and friendly and did good work this past week until they couldn't go any further and I had to go to the vehicle manufacturer for the final electrical repairs since they were located back in Seattle where I needed to get back to. The mobile electrician Josh even recommended and forwarded my needs to another place that could finish the work which sadly I couldn't follow up on because I had to return back to Seattle for my doctor appointments and had to go to civil court for a friend as a witness among other time restrictions so had run out of time being broke down in Spokane. I received excellent customer service today at Toby's on a problem with my car battery, which was not even purchased from them. I was told by another shop I would need to replace my battery because of a missing battery cap. I called Toby's to see if they might have a replacement cap and the young man told me to stop by so he could see what size the cap was. I went up there and he found a replacement cap within a few minutes. He saved me $85.00 (the cost of a new battery). The amount he charged me for the cap? Nothing, he gave them to me. I went in for an a simple oil change and was told it would be about an hour before they could get my car in. After about an hour and a half I go back inside and ask them how much longer for my car. I had seen the guy that was helped behind me get his car in but not mine. Mind you, I am an RN and work nights at the hospitals and needed to get home to sleep. The man I asked said he wasn't sure. The man that helped me first pipes up and says he didn't say an hour he said "noon hour" I called bullshit on him and told him I'm not waiting 4 hours for an oil change and walked out after he threw the key on the counter and walked away. read more

Excellent Resource for Automotive Battery needs (and more!) I used to live in North Seattle and i had previously shopped at the Interstate Battery Factory outlet. You see, i do auto restore and often need to put a new battery in a car to sell it to a happy buyer. I needed another discount/wholesale battery connection and for Spokane this is it! Cheaper than Interstate was and just as useful if not more. I buy BLEM batteries which are discounted "blemish shells" etc. They look generic without labels nor whoopla. They come with full guarantees and free replacement terms. I have seen people complaining at the desk a few times but only because they expected a return after use; which is preposterous. Point being, thw worst response to this place has only ever come from foolish people. Heck people, its only $35 for a brand new battery with a free replacement!!! They also buy battery cores for $7:$8. Cant beat a place like this. Make friends with these guys! Politeness goes a long way. They can fix anything electric. read more

Horrible customer service I walked in and there were three guys standing behind counter bullshitting ignored me for a good 3 minutes so I started browsing there mediocre store finally I got attention I gave them my battery that I need 2 of cr1/3n 3v lithium batteries he acted like I was troubling him then took a phone call even though 2 other guys were standing there then he finaly went to get my batteries he came back with 1 all they had then he came around counter and grabbed to energizer batteries and looked to see if same size I am no pro at batteries but they did not look right finally he charged me for them 11 dollars he was a prick so I said keep them and got 4 of the same exact battery that I had on amazon for 12 dollars there a rip off read more

I was extremely disappointed that when I came there and the guy wanted to charge me $5 EXTRA for taking MY battery. I am a female and they discriminated because any guy could come in there and just exchange the battery on a parking lot without being charged. They take advantage of females paying them money Cuz Ohh well, we women can't change our own freaking battery. On a positive note I had the owner of this business reach out to me and look into this matter. I liked that he cares about his customers and hope that in the future this charge will be gone and they would just switch out the batteries without a charge, since I am already buying something from them. read more

I was VERY well taken care of by Chris B. I came with my old beater car wanting their least expensive rebuilt battery. I came at the end of the day. I walk with difficulty with two canes. Chris changed my battery in the parking lot and took my card inside and brought out the receipt for me all so I could stay in my car (SUPER APPRECIATED, THANK YOU!) Chris had to replace a lead for one of my battery wires because mine just would not tighten. Chris charged me less than he should have and I left having paid less than I was expecting to! They stole my core batteries and charged me for a new one. I tried to buy a new battery for my work vehicle. I had 3 cores to go with it. They took the cores and sent me to their "other store" to get the battery. When I got there, they gave me the battery but charged me full core charge and insisted I give them the one I was using in the vehicle, not my cores. Rude and incompetent! They charged me for an hour of diagnostics and claimed the car ran fine and they had no "failure" to evaluate (i had to have the car towed there). When i went to retrieve it, the car immediately failed. I asked them to come look so they could see what it had been doing. They said they would when it was my turn again! I think they were hoping to get another hour of diagnostics when it wouldn't act up so they could charge me some more for simply driving it and starting it. They also didn't even look at the specific issues i mentioned it might be during the first hour, just test drove it. They just hoped for failure, and when i offered to show it to them, they refused. They didn't want to identify the problem when they had the chance. Also, I took it to another place who instantly recognized it as an electrical issue and fixed it. Toby's told me electrical was their wheelhouse. Ha! They're incompetent and rude! Do not go to Toby's! read more

I took my vehicle in to replace the ignition switch. I had disassembled the ignition switch prior to taking it in to them. They fixed it and it works fine. They did not however replace the dash panel under the steering wheel. They left it laying on the floor along with the three screws. I asked Matt to replace it. He said he was going to charge me an hour of labor to do that because I brought it in disassembled and they like to leave the vehicle in the same state that it was brought in. I paid $350 to have them fix my vehicle yet they wouldn't replace the dash board panel unless I paid an extra hour of labor because it was removed when I took it in to them and I didn't specifically tell them that they should also put the dash board back on. read more

They "diagnosed" the electronic speedometer in my car when I brought it in after I told them I just had it diagnosed at my certified mechanic. They said they could fix it. After keeping my car two days I was told they do not fix speedometers and I need a whole new instrument cluster for $200 + must pay them $100. for another diagnosis! I put in a new window master control in the door and needed them to wire it in. They said I need a new control for another $200 plus $100 labor. Liars! After I paid them $100. for another unneeded diagnosis I bought a new instrument panel myself for $140 and will put it in myself. I got in my car to take it home and discovered they broke the dash air vents to pieces and gouged a hole in my upholstered dash! I give these rip off jerks negative stars! read more

Not good. First problem I rang up to get a quote for alternator replacement - "yep no worries, labor will be $250". I get there and it's $325 for the same work. Later on I get a call saying they had found what caused the alternator to go bad - a fan control module. I am no mechanic, but considering there are no moving parts the problem is likely somewhere else even if this thing is gone. Long story short, there's a furore because A) they want to charge 3 times the price of the part and B) they wouldn't just return the car to me with this unit unplugged for fear that they are liable for the car overheating on my way home (they are not). We did end up resolving this amicably - I got the car back with the alternator and the FCM fixed. However (and this is the real problem with these guys), I later discover (myself) that both the main mechanical rad fan and the auxiliary electric rad fan (that the aforementioned FCM controls) are not working. I am not saying Toby's is responsible for them being broken, I am saying that if your customer brings you a car with a problem with the cooling system, you might want to check if the fans are working. Especially if the customer asks specifically for an in depth diagnosis/fix of the problem (incidentally this is the only reason the FCM issue was discovered). If I had left this unattended the alternator would have gone again from the pressure of having to power the secondary fan all the time. Then if I was lucky, the battery would have drained before the engine would have overheated and blown the head gaskets. I wonder if Toby's would have accepted liability for that? read more

I purchased a marine battery and a charger for $179 this spring. When I did this the first guy didn't know anything about batteries and said I'd need to bring in my trolling motor. I just ignored him after discovering his intelligence level was nil, and spoke to the guy next to him who seemed fairly knowledgable and sold me the merchandise. Anyway, I never ended up using them and they are still in the bag from Toby's with the receipt. Nothing's been opened at all and they will not take any of it back. Won't even look at it. The charger they'll take back with a 25% restocking fee! What a bunch of schmucks! I will not be recommending this company to anyone ever. Nobody could figure out what was wrong with out truck. Another shop had already given up on it. Then we took it to Toby's and they were patient and knowledgeable and were able to isolate the problem quickly. Turned out to be the engine computer which I am told is a very tough diagnosis to make. It took us a while to be able to find the right part since our truck is pretty old and there was limited information on the part number but the guys at Toby's stuck it out. We were referred by a friend and we will be referring our friends here. Great group of people. read more
