We came on a Sunday and there were quite a few people, many relaxing in their own chairs while their small dogs played. All the pups were friendly, and there was plenty of grassy space for them to run around. The large dog area also looked very nice--clean, spacious, and completely empty by the time we left. I brought my dog here the other day and this park is disgusting. The park is incredibly small and muddy and not well taken care of. It's one of few parks that I have been to where there are no poo bags offered, which is not a problem for me because I bring my own, but it is probably contributing to the horrible state of the park itself. Along with the dog feces everywhere, there was human feces as well as an actual jug full of urine. There are tons of unhoused persons who clearly stay around here in the adjacent canal and have taken over this area, which is not a problem in itself but the state of the park feels unsafe and dirty. This park needs real community involvement and improvement. We did not stay long and I would not recommend this park to anyone in it's current state.

Because of those deep roots, it has been incredibly disappointing to see its recent decline now that I am trying to bring my own children here. Over the past couple of years, the environment has changed significantly and it just doesn't feel like the safe, clean space it once was. The restroom facilities are no longer accessible or available, and the playground equipment is not being adequately maintained. Additionally, there is now an unhoused community located right next to the park grounds. I want to be entirely clear that I have no ill will toward anyone, and I deeply understand that everyone needs a safe place to stay. However, having an encampment directly adjacent to a dedicated space for young children raises valid safety concerns for us parents. Unexpected things can happen, and it makes it difficult to feel completely secure when bringing our little ones to play. It is truly sad to see because this park holds so many beautiful memories for my family. I sincerely hope local management can address these maintenance and safety concerns so it can be restored to the clean, thriving community space it used to be.

Adj: Still Substantial and Satisfactorily Safe…read more Shasta Community Park is a storybook themed park off Bruceville across from Cosumnes River College close to Cosumnes River Blvd. It's been around for a good 15+ years now and we've not come here for quite a few years, even though we drive past somewhat often. It's right next to the Valley Hi-North Laguna Library so it's a good place for kids to burn off the energy and go get some educational fun and check out some books and have some fun park experiences on the same trip. There's bathrooms here and if they aren't opened, the library when it is opened has bathrooms too. Now that my littles aren't so little anymore, they aren't too keen on parks, but they still like libraries, so they went to the library and I decided to stop by the park and take a quick stroll. Things still look pretty good overall here, the play structures are older, but still in ok shape, the grounds look clean and maintained, and the trees have really grown in now so there are plenty of shade for hot sunny days later this year in the summer. They also have water features, namely a spray park area so kids could cool off and get soaking wet in the summer. The sprays usually operates from Memorial Day to Labor Day. There's plenty of seating under 2 huge gazebo for gatherings, picnics or just hanging out, plus there are a couple of bbq grills too so you can easily have BBQs here. In addition to all that, in this 20+ acres park, there's a skate park, a basketball court, and soccer fields, so there's plenty of exercise and fun opportunities to be had here. Safety wise, I would say that past the afternoon it's probably best not to hang out here as it could be a little unsafe here, so when the library closes at 6p, I'd suggest not staying around. Otherwise, it's a safe park and well kept, except for the tall grass and weeds in the parking lot shared with the library that were totally overgrown, minus one start for that, maybe the park and rec district folks haven't gotten the manpower to keep it cut down. Overall, this is still a pretty good park, and although it's getting older, it's still maintained quite well.

I've never seen this park over crowded. Sometime the regulars combine their small dogs with their bigger dogs. But it seems like it is a universal agreement amongst the regulars who go there at a certain time. The yards seem to be kept fairly clean as I haven't found any droppings yet. I wish they supplied bags though, just in case the owners forget. Other than that, great neighborhood dog park.

I'll stick to my quality poop bags and having her do her business on cue, in peace, elsewhere, thanks. Decomposed granite only, no grass either side. Both sides small to medium in size. Larger joint transition area compared to other parks. Right outside the dog park are several metal tables with 4 charcoal grills. Dog birthday party setting? Haha. Plenty of street parking including spaces under the overpass for warmer days. Loved that there's a large grassy park across the street with benches. We ate there and it was peaceful enough but the road noise from Howe Avenue is a bit much. The overhead power lines at the two parks are a bit much, too, particularly at the dog park. One great feature is the easy access to the American River Trail and the levee trail. Go for a road run, trail run, or walk towards Watt Ave or Cal Expo. Overall, my dog and I don't need to come back because it grossed me out, but it was a great outlet for my dog to get her sniff on.

Pros: tall fences. Separate big and small dog sides. Working water with new water stations. Trash cans and scoopers provided (unless they get stolen). Plenty of bench space. Shade some hours from the big tree. Cons: small side has A LOT of dead grass with stickers. The big side has flooded near the gate the last few winters. It's a dirt floor, so it gets super dusty. The benches usually have pee on them (but it's a dog park). The small dog side is really big and could've been made a little smaller to adjust for the big dog side to be bigger.

Walking trails surround a dog park, skateboard park, horseshoe courts, several soccer fields, and several open fields (which are usually also used for soccer). I love the duck and lily pond with the fountain, although I'm not certain whether this is a feature of the park, or the court house. The park is situated with walking distance of Starbucks, Kiki's Chicken Place, C.K.'s donuts, the family court house, and the Power Inn light rail station. It is not the cleanest park, but it is kept in decent enough shape, and is pretty popular. Yesterday afternoon, I was in the process of parking in one of those shaded parking spaces when I noticed that a man (whom I had just driven by on the street) seemed to be following me into the park. He walked up to a brown van, and proceeded to try to open the door in a way that made it seem like he didn't expect it to be open. He had already started to move on to the next door when he noticed that the side door was opening. At this point, I was thinking, this *could* be his van, but, I had a feeling that it wasn't. Right at that moment, another man pulled in between us, and parked. Seeing that I was staring in his direction, he came over to talk to me. "Hi, how are you? I like your hair. Can I get your number?" Etc. As he was talking to me, I noticed the first man leaving the brown van, and going through the same process with a different van. "I don't think that's his car," I said to the man who was asking for my phone number. I guess I was nervous from potentially witnessing petty theft, because all I could think to say to his multiple requests for my contact info was, "Oh, no thank you." As I started my car to leave, I said, "Maybe don't leave your car here! Cause that guy is probably gonna go through it." That's the last time I try to save $3.50 by parking at the park, and walking to the court house.
