A Toby Creek Adventure. The day started out at -32C, even cold by Canadian standards. My wife and I had initially each reserved our individual snowmobiles. Given this was my wife's 1st time and such cold temperatures, she was understandably apprehensive. As we were checking at the office (signing the release of liability forms, etc.) management really pushed the extra liability coverage for each of us, which would normally be covered if the merchant accepts Amex, but today they weren't able to accept it for some "technical" reason. So, we paid extra liability insurance.
We then clothed up and headed out to our waiting sleds. My wife decided that she'd rather not ride her own snowmobile. The owner suggested that she just try a little test ride first, then if she still didn't want to ride solo, no problem, she could just ride with me. Well, after the little test ride she still didn't want to drive her own machine. She then jumped on the back of my sled and we continued on with a spectacular gorgeous but frigid day of fun snowmobiling...
The day was a lot of fun. Our transportation pick up driver pleasant and safe on icy roads in route to and from the ranch. The rental equipment was adequate. Our snowmobiling guide was super. Setting aside the extreme cold, the sky was beautiful. However, the bottom line is we can't help but feel taken advantage of financially... The cost for a full day was approx $270 per snowmobile (snowmobiling passengers are charged a little more than half ($170), plus liability insurance (in our case approx $580).
Simply stated, Toby Creek Adventures overcharged us. Since my wife rode as a passenger with me we, we shouldn't have been charged for two individual snowmobiles and liability insurance... We were charged $580 and should've only been charged $440. Ok, being ripped off for $140 isn't the end of the world but it does leave us with a sour after taste from an otherwise nice adventure. read more
