Oh, and if you can give me my own wee room with a roaring fire, personal TV screen and enough room to stretch out with a couple of mates and a few quiet pints that'd be nice too. Charge forward, the marvellous Bull Inn, the shining light of the Paisley bar scene which has been keeping Buddies happy since 1901, making it officially the oldest pub in the town. The Bull is as handsome a bar as you will find in the west of Scotland and its traditional fittings and homely atmosphere are almost worth the jaunt to Paisley alone. If you do manage to bag one of its four snugs (unlikely during lunch times and big match days) then make sure you cancel any prior arrangements. Trust me, you'll not want to leave here for a very, very long time.

My wife's nachos arrived first, it was an impressive looking platter. Then the garlic bread arrived it was a pretty bland affair, but not burnt and actually quite tasty. My burger was brought and actually it was delightful, I'd added the cheese and bacon. The bacon was crisp as was the accompanying veg. So much so, I ordered a brownie and ice cream. Now it's not going to win a Michelin star, but it's certainly better than some of the other chain pub grills I've been in recently. So while my average for such places would be three stars, this one isn't bad and rockets to the heady heights of a four.

It's a fact…read more I come here at least a couple of times a month and take advantage of their Beefeater Rewards Card which allows points to be saved and exchanged for money off vouchers or special offers. All good value. The food here is of a very high standard. Yes, it's a Beefeater so the menu is limited in the sense that there'll be a lot of red meat but there are still some fish, chicken, pasta and salad dishes too. The focus is on steak and burgers and so it should be as they do it very well. The restaurant is part of a hotel/pub/restaurant complex with a Premier Inn (in Newton Mearns?!?) so the clientele is varied between the traveler and the local and there appear to be a lot of regulars from the local area (always a good sign). The bar it's self has two main parts a smaller upstairs main bar and a larger lounge area downstairs. The prices are the main selling point with the drinks set at a pretty reasonable rate. Another bonus is there's no football on in the bar so no fights or folk screaming at screens!

Hardly a replacement for the osprey which got it very right having a pub that you can get food at every table but we're WELCOME to go in and sit/stand whatever and have a pint! Exactly what a pub should be! Not here! Walked in a immediately got stopped with a "have you booked" on replying no the response was a very large sigh and we'll we'll try! (It wasn't that busy) One eventually getting seated and going to the bar to get served (they don't do table service but supposedly do drinks and dessert at your table after your initial order! ) I waited for 25 minutes to be served at the bar as there was only 2 people serving, there were 2 people being served and I was next in the line! one of the waitresses approached with her iPad and said I'll take your order since you've been waiting! It was always named the "Auld House" for many years but over the past couple it has changed hands several times. The thing that struck me between the East End and West of the city it the price you pay for a pint in the West End, although if your from Glasgow you will probably understand anyway. If whisky isn't your thing, they've few decent beers on draught and wines/spirits galore. It made for an interesting place to go for a drink towards the end of an evening, with the bar made with what looked like reclaimed materials and exposed stone everywhere. The most bizarre element was finding a taxidermied bird encased in the toilet door - whether this was supposed to help signify ladies or gents I don't know; either way I apparently went in the wrong loo...twice. Oops. What really made the evening though was the motley crew of musicians sat round one of the tables, who burst into a folksy ditty and you immediately felt the traditional Scottish factor massively increase - whether this is a regular thing or a one off I'm not sure, but it was a charming spectacle.
