This is my second time going to Tobin James. I was looking to add some Zinfandels to my cellar and Tobin James had several. The tasting room had old west vibes and feels a bit touristy, but nice. We loved how she went over some of the winery history and was great at customizing the tastings to our likes. We will definitely be stopping by again when we head back to Paso. Great time in Paso Robles! This was our first time staying in the guest suites they have for the James Gang Members. Every time I've stopped at Tobin James has been a great experience with delicious wine! This is my favorite winery not only because the wine is great but because the staff are always friendly and fun. Today we were happy to have Gaetano as our sommelier, as have had him before and is always entertaining and personable! We prefer red wine and were really pleased with the tasting selection provided for $20 each person. The $20 tasting fee is waived if you purchase $20 of wine, which wasn't difficult for us to figure out. Especially at the end of our tasting where G poured the Late Harvest Zin and Sparkling Dream Weaver together.. omg we were sold! We purchased those two wines, the moscato (which was equally as wonderful with the Dream Weaver) and the Zinfandel Ballistic. I highly recommend this winery! read more

Great, fun place and even BETTER service! My girlfriend and I popped in on a Monday and the bar was somewhat busy. Amanda took care of us and was very kind and awesome. It was an intimate experience although we were standing next to couples on either side. The crowd is awesome, we struck up a conversation with both couples on both sides. Amanda was detailed but also very generous making sure we tried wines we wanted. We ended up leaving as members! Great first trip to Paso and excited for our shipment in October! read more

One of the best tasting rooms I've been to! For $20, you can sample as many wines as you want to on their list. But if you buy a bottle, the fee is waived. (I doubt you'll have trouble finding one that you like). Its fun being able to stand at the bar & try whatever you like at your own pace. We ended up with the moscato, petit syrah & notorious Cabernet. Very delicious wines! Veronica & Richard were so knowledgeable about the wines & had some fun facts about the winery too. We came here because we were told that their wines are pretty good and affordable. It's an Old Western themed establishment and the grounds are nice and clean. The inside reminded me of a saloon and there were 3 tasting stations. We walked up to the door and were greeted by a hostess. We informed her that this is our first visit and she explained that it's $20 for tasting, but will waive that fee if we purchase that amount. She paired us up with Laura Anne. She was so bubbly and full of knowledge and energy. We really liked her and she was able to able tweak our experience accordingly. We tried about 6-7 different wines and everything was going great until she had to leave for lunch. That's when everything changed because the person that replaced her was a bit of a downer. He was awkward and didn't look us in the eyes when conversing. He was nice, don't get me wrong, but the energy was way off. That really put a damper on our experience. Also, there was a group of 10-15 people that was celebrating a birthday and the guest of honor was so loud and rowdy that it also put us off. Though she was of a mature age, she behaved like a drunk sorority girl. Not saying that Tobin James attracts that kind of crowd, but I've never had that kind of experience at Eberle or other wineries where they charge you more. We like to enjoy our wine quietly and be able to talk to our server. Plus, we weren't really big fans of their wine either so that didn't help. We thought they were just ok. I cannot recommend this winery enough. Came here on a birthday trip with my friends who had recommended this spot for a tasting. We had a blast. Pours are generous and catered to your wine preferences. I love sweet/dessert wines and I tried maybe 6 or 7 different wines that fit my palette. Every wine was absolutely delicious. The staff was fun and friendly. We had a great time and it kicked off the trip on a positive. I wish it was closer and cannot wait to go back. Tobin james cellar had a woodsy Nashville vibe in there. Tastings here were 20 bucks for plenty of tastings and the one tender was fabulous. We got to try a lot and she also mixed a port with one of the wines and it was great. I generally don't like wines and learn that you can mix the port to make it taste better. if you buy here, there were 20 bucks for free so why not. I finally made it back here after several years and stopped in for a tasting. There must've been a change in management. The tastings were $20 unless you bought a bottle now. So I tried 5 wines figuring I would be walking home with at least _one_ bottle. Nope. It was awful. But between paying $20 and walking away empty-handed (for just the tastings) and paying $20 and walking away with a bottle, I decided even a not so good wine is better than nothing. In the end, the bottle I walked home with (the best of the five I tasted), was still so bad that I added mulling spices to it just to be able to drink the rest of it. Will not be back unless a friend drags me. Too bad as I so enjoyed my first visit. read more

I heard a lot of good things about this winery. But sadly I cannot recommend this one. I liked not loved the small vibe and old cowboy theme. But our server had not so positive things to say about a winery we are members at and talked trash about another winery in town. The wines we tasted were not that good compared to other wineries we visited. Even though most of the wine prices were reasonable we did not like anything we were served. But hey that's just my opinion. Everyone has different tastes and this one was not one I enjoyed. read more

First time at Tobin James and my wife and I had a good time. The staff was really knowledgeable and friendly and took the time to explain to us the different variety of Wines they offer. They give you about an hour for the tastings and 4-6 different wines to choose from. All the Wines we tasted were delicious and the variety offered was excellent. The inside is really nice it's a western saloon type atmosphere with a casual type bar setting. The grounds are well kept and nice, super convenient with plenty of parking and easy access right off the 46. If it's your first time Wine tasting and want something simple and casual or not sure you even like Wine give Tobin James a try you won't be disappointed and I bet you become a Wine lover. read more

Best wine tasting experience I have ever had! We have been to numerous wineries in California over the past decades, and this place tops the bill. They were packed with people, even on the Easter holiday, and yet our experience was stellar. At the root of what makes this place, so good is the fact that the tasting fee applies to wine purchases. One of my favorite wineries in Paso Robles. They are well staffed and busy. Lots of fun people to visit with. The grounds are fabulous with lots of cozy as well as group seating areas. A place to park your RV for the night and a cottage you can rent if you're a club member. The wines are great! The tastings are reasonably priced and go toward the purchase if you buy wine. We walked out with 3 cases! Stocked up! A wide variety of Tommy Bahama shirts, my hubby's favorite! Lovely Tobin James jewelry and women's signature clothing. Awesome winery! One of the best wineries in Paso because they aren't stingy and it's a good time. Located pretty Far East from the rest but it's worth a visit. Make sure to make reservations and you can taste inside away from the heat. The pours were flowing and it was great. The wines were really good, we bought 6 bottles for the cellar. They had good GSM, Nebbiolo, and their Sangiovese were the best. If you don't mind driving, you should visit this winery. read more

Had a fabulous wine tasting! They're dog friendly. It's a plus when you're traveling with a pet or a service dog. They were amazing with my service dog, Duke. He loved the treats they gave him. I have been doing a really horrible job at keeping up with my reviews, but I wanted to make sure I left a 5 star for Tobin James Cellars. We came up here in early June and had a complete blast. It was our first stop of the trip, and definitely the most memorable. In fact, this might be my favorite winery that I've ever been to. Although indoor was still closed, the outdoor set up was great. Each party had their own separate table and (practically) personal server. The wines, while not my favorite of the trip, were mostly great. There were definitely a couple I didn't care much for. However, between the ambiance and service, I have to say that this place had by far the best energy to it. The decor is also top notch. It's a very fun place to walk around and explore. Next time I'm in Paso, this will definitely be at the top of my list. I couldn't even tell you how many pours we got, but it was way more than anywhere else I've ever been to. The atmosphere is certainly lively, and I thought they did a great job despite the circumstances. Good music, good vibes, good people, good wine, and generous pours. Wow - we were pleasantly surprised and happy that we didn't listen to some people who said we shouldn't go because this winery is "too big and commercial". (I almost don't want to share this because it already seems to be popular but I also hate for it to get a mistakenly bad rep...) First of all, the staff was AMAZING! They were all super friendly, funny, knowledgeable, and helpful without over-selling anything (Jessie!). We only saw a few wines on the tasting list that we thought we'd like so we shared a tasting. Oh boy, not only did we find even more wines that we liked, we ended up buying six bottles (the most we've ever purchased from one place)! My favorites were the Arneis, the Tempranillo Rose, and the Sangiovese. I liked others too (ie. one of the chardonnays), but I wanted to "let" my husband pick his favorite three too - LOL.
