WOW, I am so happy that Mike now has his own shop. I was a regular at his past places of employment and pretty much followed him wherever he goes. The integrity he has is far above most. Reassures me that there are honest mechanics out there, and when you find one, hold on to them (obvious in my situation). My car (2009 Scion XB) was overheating and needed some work. While going through all the possibilities with friends/family my pocket book was feeling a little lighter than I wanted. I contacted Mike on a Friday, and dropped off my car on Sat. By the time I made it home to San Jose, I got a call letting me know that the problem had been located. As I take a deep breathe, feeling a little bit of anxiety kick in... I asked for the damage; he told me that I have a bad hose. Really, a bad hose, that's it?!?! I was semi prepared to hear that it was my head gasket. His price was fair and I really felt at peace knowing that I'd be back on the road in no time, like literally no time. I may have found the best mechanic in the world. I was told by a couple auto dealers that he's the mechanic they send cars to when they can't figure things out. In addition, he is known to be very honest. I just talked to him and he told me to Not replace a part, but he'll try cleaning it for less then half the cost. If that doesn't work after a month of driving it, then he can replace the part, but will credit me the labor for cleaning it and won't charge any more labor! read more

This review is long overdue! I have been going to Mike at TLS Automotive for the past year. As you can read from comments below; Mike is an honest & polite, hard working, transparent, and timely mechanic. With that said, I feel like my kind words for Mike won't do as much justice for the average Yelper. So, instead I will describe to you how I see Mike through my past experiences. I met Mike through my brother's friend who used to work with him. He told us this guy with over 20 years of experience opened up his own shop, and he's legit AF. At the time, my roommate's engine blew out. Mike graciously worked a payment arrangement and swapped the engine out for an extremely reasonable price. Other places were charging at least $500 more. I started taking my car in for oil changes and any required maintenance since then. I'm an auditor...so almost naturally I am skeptical of how most businesses operate. I try to identify any potential risks wherever I am at. With that said, I could not see anything of concern related to the physical business layout or how Mike operates. Each time I visit, the garage is neat, orderly, and secure. How Mike conducts business was also very professional and orderly. Here is how I sum up the way Mike interacts with a customer: "I am going to assume that you've had a bad experience with a mechanic before, or flat out don't trust them....so I will do everything I can to show you that I am speaking FACTS". Although in my own words, I feel like this is the best way to summarize how he works. When it comes to any car problems, Mike would take the car for a test drive, then have me drive around while he is in the passenger seat describing his synopsis of the issue at hand. If he finds a quote for a part, he will print it out to show you...if not you'd probably be watching him scan through his other sources to ensure he is getting the best deal. Speaking of sources, Mike is very source heavy, DESPITE his huge amount of automotive knowledge. I challenge you to get into an argument with him about you car's problems. I'd put money down that he would print out some ASC certified guidance repeating what he had just told you. He spits facts. He coordinates timing of repairs very well, between his own workload, the parts delivery boy, and the customer. His billing rates are very fair, if not lower than any other place I have been quoted by in the past. This dude ain't no joke. Anyone I know, regardless of the type of vehicle they have, I recommend to Mike. I've taken Chevy Malibus, Nissan Altimas, and a Mercedes-Benz to Mike, fixed them all without any hesitation. Mike is a rockstar! I got my drum brakes replaced on my Ford Focus and was hearing some weird noses. TLS happened to be the only place open on a holiday weekend (leave it to my car to need work over the 4th of July ) and Mike was busy with another car but offered to fix the noise completely free of charge. The first thing i noticed about TLS is that it was really clean and roomy. It wasn't your typical tech shop where it was dirty and messy with parts. Mike was very professional and friendly. He thoroughly explained the steps and the possibilities of why my a/c is bad. The best part was Mike was able to fix my a/c problem for a fraction of what the dealership quoted me! This was my first time visiting TLS Automotive with several issues ailing my Camry, and I was happy to learn that Toyota vehicles were Mike's specialty. On a Saturday afternoon, Mike dropped everything he was doing to take my car for a test ride and diagnose several issues. He called me back about an hour and a half later (as promised) to give me a full diagnosis and help me prioritize my fixes. Within two business days, my car was back in my possession and I feel much safer having resolved a brake issue (caused by a separate maintenance location). Mike went the extra mile to install a small yet critical part just for the cost of parts, and while my car was on the lift, Mike offered to do a simple tire rotation for free! Not once did I feel pushed to request more maintenance than I wanted. Especially since I live in the neighborhood, this will be my car fix destination from now on. read more

Mike is one of the BEST mechanics you will ever come across. He was recommended to me by a friend and I'm so glad I decided to go with him. Mike is very prompt at responding, listened to my concerns, and very clearly explained the work that needed to be done to my car. He made sure all my questions were answered and priced the work reasonably. Unlike most other mechanics, I didn't feel like he was nickel and diming me, overcharging me for parts/labor, or making up recommendations for repairs just to get paid. I came to TLS for a smog check on my Prius. There is no charge if you don't pass. It could have been a quick in and out, but I got the feeling that Mike was trustworthy. The way he spoke and listened was unusual. I can only describe it as without guile. So I asked about my busted air conditioning. He patiently explained the steps that were needed to figure out the problem and seemed almost apologetic that he couldn't just tell me what was wrong. It wasn't the nature of this problem. We went ahead with the plan. Two weeks later, Mike called to check on my air conditioning. It was so cold that I had to raise the temperature! Upon arrival, Mike patiently listened to my story, and gave me a number of possibilities leading to my issue. He made sure to verify with me that he wasn't sure how long it could take. Heard about this auto shop thru a friend from work. Had some body work done on his vehicle. I was kind of skeptical about the place because I was not sure how good he is when it comes to more mechanical issue. Later on I was told Mike the owner and mechanic had work for Toyota dealership for over 10 years. In my opinion that was enough experience for me trust him and give him a call to get a quote. The price he gave me was a lot lower then the previous 2 I have call. Drop off my vehicle to replace 2 front struts and a control arm for my car. Vehicle drives a lot smoother and handling a lot better . Price very reasonable and the service was excellent. Got my car back in only a few days and I'm very satisfied with TLS. I had my starter go out on my 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer, I called this shop knowing one of the technicians from another shop and they took great care of me. Not only did they get me in right away, but they were able to get the part for me hundreds of dollars cheaper than anywhere I could find it. While I was there I had them resurface my brakes, bleed the fluid and flush my power steering. They kept me updated throughout the work, and got everything done for me quickly. Ethan was my technician and I really appreciated his attention to detail and great customer service. Mike was also very attentive and worked hard to get my part affordably. The shop was clean and had plenty space. They even called a few days later to ensure everything was going well.
