When I was just a young tot, we used to go on school field trips to this place. It was legendary!…read more They had big slides, a huge tower fort, and all the swings you could shake a stick at. Were they completely safe? Hell no, but we had more fun than a dog in a bone factory at that park. Sure I came home with a few inch-long splinters in my bum, but Uncle Chester always coaxed them out with a little baby oil, some rubber gloves, and a few feathers. Hell, even my daughters grew up going to that park. They had softball games twice a week on their fields. As a father and spectator, I got ejected from my first game at their upper field. Argued balls and strikes till I was blue in the face. The sad thing was that it was still batting practice and the game hadn't started. Oh well, that's just the kind of fella I am. I had a lot of firsts at that park...my first field trip, my first kiss, my first kiss with a girl, first slap across the face...I could go on and on. Well, I was up here at the end of the season this past September, and while there are still some things from my childhood that remain, quite a few things have changed. Gone are the big slide and wooden fort I used to get stuck in while climbing up; they have been replaced with big, plastic, Ronald McDonald looking Fisher-Price crap. Nothing even remotely dangerous remains, it's all replaced by safe, conservative stuff (and not the good kinda conservative). I understand the struggle to keep kids safe but pretty soon it's gonna be a bunch of bean bag chairs and hula hoops, c'mon let the kids be kids. Schools still have nurses right? Oh and let me be clear. This park is now obnoxious about their no dog policy. Every free piece of real estate is plastered with a NO DOGS ALLOWED sign. My wife even wore her favorite Big Dogs branded t-shirt and was asked to leave several times. The athletic fields themselves were in great shape and I must commend the park staff for the great mowjobs. They looked fantastic! Although I must say the tennis courts have seen better days, the amount of cracks, dead spots, and holes reminded me of a PennDOT job. Also, what's with all the mounds of dirt and gravel towards the upper end? I thought I had stumbled into the back entrance of the Eureka Stone Quarry in Snydersville. On the other hand, If I was still a kid those would probably have been the funnest thing there to play on. I give it 3 stars just for the fond memories.

"The Way You Think It Is May Not Be the Way It Is At All."…read more This is the beautiful quote that's written out on the park's map that represents what this place truly is. As it states, it is a sanctuary - a sacred place for meditation, quietness and reflection. There are about 90 stones throughout the sanctuary - sourced locally and placed between 1980 and 2005 - that are nearly 3.6 billion (!) years old. Wow. There is a pond area as well, filled with koi fish and other little creatures. Since we've had a long, harsh winter in the North East this year, not much had bloomed and the trees were still bare with lots of anticipating bursts of spring ahead. I did capture a few daffodils and flowers poking their way through some of the brush. The trails are easy, natural and inviting. We arrived fairly early in the AM on a Saturday, and snagged a parking spot. There is limited parking and by the time we were leaving, the spots were all full. I would think the earlier in the day one can come, the better it is all around. Upon leaving a realized there is also a little Resource Center and Gem Shop by the fountains, but we were on our way out and skipped exploring this. Plus I was on my way to (a very clean!) porter-potty (so thankful one was on site.) toilet paper & hand sanitizer, too! Just as an FYI Thoroughly enjoyed coming here and exploring this beautiful, simple space. I love that they're a sanctuary, a non-profit organization committed to preserving nature's beauty and diversity. My heart was happy. Thankful. Inspiring. Would love to possibly create a similar nature sanctuary in the city one day.

But you could easily spend more time here on a nice day. Its a bit off the beaten path, but the curvy, mountainous roads make the drive there enjoyable. Its a great place for a date, family outing, or just some alone time. Great photo ops.

What a beautiful location, Blanche D Price, Memorial Park located in Pocono Pines Pennsylvania…read more My daughter booked and rented the Main Lodge in the park so she could have an indoor & outdoor setting, for a Wedding Reception. We were allowed to decorate, both indoors & outdoors, the tables & chairs were provided by the facility so you can set them up accordingly to how many guest and the type of celebration. We had approximately 200 guest, our celebration was for a BBQ wedding reception. Many of the guest complimented how spacious and roomy the venue they chose, they were delighted to see there was a playground just a few yards for the children to play and within eye's view from the main lodge. There is a small outdoor stage for entertainment but there is no shade or covering for the entertainers/musicians, granted you can provide a pop up tent if necessary. Inside the Lodge there is a small stage loft with lots of room for tables chairs and dancing.. The outside of the main lodge, is a wrap around deck for plenty of room to sets extra tables and chairs or hang out at the banister and listen to the music. Plenty of room to mingle with friends and meet the new family. The main lodge has its own male/female bathrooms,a kitchen, fridge, stove, oven there is a center island table for cutting or prepping, there is hot & cold water but no dishwasher so you will need to bring your kitchen amenities such as dish soap, trash bags etc. The location is well kept and clean as well as the playground equipment. was very happy & delighted to have such a wonderful venue to share with my family, my new family and friends for this memorable event.
