I just have to provide an update - as I noticed my last review here was in 2016 and we continue to bring our fur baby here to Nancy! And my daughter brings her dog here too - driving all the way from San Mateo!! That's how much we love Nancy and the job she does with our fur babies. What's great is that it's only one dog at a time - and she's super careful and attentive and the fur babies love her as well. When we started Tobi was super nervous given he was cut by someone at PetSmart that literally "cut" him! Poor baby had to go to the vet for stiches!! But since regularly coming her to Nancy's he's adjusted very well and knows exactly how to behave! We love that she will adjust the cut based on what you ask - especially as we like it shorter in the summer - slightly longer in the winter. Nancy is SO SWEET and is kind and gentle. She used to be hard to get appointments with as she is the only groomer and there are only so many hours in a day and days in the week and she doesn't take shortcuts or cram as many dogs as she can. She's very methodical and thoughtful. BUT we know some of her regulars have passed (one was a good friend of mine who's fur baby was the reason why we got one). SO it's not as hard to get an appointment - so if you're looking for a groomer I would HIGHLY recommend Nancy. We know our fur baby is safe and taken care of. This was especially helpful especially during the dog flu outbreak where she took even MORE EXTRA care to sanitize. She always cleans between but she definitely took extra care!! When I first got my Morkie puppy back in 2012, I had difficulties finding a groomer. My dog is timid by nature. That is until we found TLC Grooming and Nancy (owner and groomer). Since then, my family has taken our two dogs to TLC Grooming for almost 10-years. Nancy consistently does a good job. The two pups always come back home looking and smelling great. My dog smells so good that I wish Nancy would sell the scent as a spray! Nancy is super friendly and accommodates my dad's preferred early drop-off time (7 am) and our appointment change requests. The dogs are ready for pick up after a few hours. Nancy will call to give us a heads up so that our 4-legged friends don't have to wait long. For my wedding in August 2021, Nancy squeezed our little dog in for an extra session the day before. The dog looked picture perfect for the big day! Most of Nancy's customers have been going to TLC Grooming for the life of their pets, so be sure to snag an appointment if she has one available. Came here with my dog for the first time last Saturday because we're searching for a new groomer. And I've got to say, although I was quite skeptical at first, I am pleasantly surprised with the service and cut the groomer did here. I was skeptical because 1) it's in a weird place of el camino k-town, and 2) i didn't see any dogs when I was dropping my dog off (I guess in my mind, a good grooming place would have dogs already done and waiting for their owners). But my skepticism was unnecessary. I forget her name.... but the groomer did a wonderful job with my dog. We asked for a standard Japanese poodle cut, which she did, and we got a flea bath on top of it, which we didn't ask for nor were we charged for it. She said she saw what looked like some flea dirt on our dog while she was cutting his hair, so she took the precaution of giving him a flea bath too but our bill did not include it. I asked about the bath and she said don't worry about it. Now that is excellent/over the top service! One big thing about this groomer is that she handles one dog at a time, instead of having workers help her and doing several dogs at a time. This tells me that she pays 100% attention to all her client/dogs +++++!!! Another HUGE plus for me was the fact that after the appointment, my dog did not look as if he had been petrified or scared as hell. He was definitely excited to see me, but wasn't bolting for the door as soon as the groomer let go of him. I did make an appointment before leaving because it took a while to get our first appointment with her. I recommend this; when she was going through her calendar, it looked pretty solidly booked until the first week of December! read more

Love love love these sweet groomers. Nancy was my dog Dexter's first groomer after we adopted him last year. At the time, I met with lots of groomers to make sure his first experience was positive. Nancy was the only groomer to suggest bringing him really early in the morning so she could take her time with him and he would be the only dog in the studio. GENUS! She is loving and gentle with him and I know he's in good hands with her. I like that she always asks how I would like him cut and she does exactly what she says she will do and if there are any issues she lets me know. I got a grooming appointment at another groomers as a gift and they cut him too short and cut his neck with the clippers and never told me. Thank goodness there is a TLC Groomers. I like when my dog looks like himself..a few times I've taken him to groomers and I almost didn't recognize him. When I take him to TLC he looks clean, neat and like himself. I would give this place 0 stars if I could. This lady should not be in this business. This is a private one-woman shop. I've been taking my dog here for almost two years primarily because my mom's been taking our family dog here for some time. I usually take my dog in once every 6-8 weeks. I called today to cancel my appointment because of work conflict and knowing that her schedule is "always packed," I asked if we could just schedule our next appointment 6 weeks out instead of rescheduling. If you're going to start coming here, you better make sure you know your schedule 6-8 weeks in advance. It books up fast and if you miss an appointment, it's impossible to re-book or reschedule. She'll get mad at you if you try to cancel or reschedule. She also NEVER calls to confirm your appointments. The lady yelled at me for canceling at the last minute and said customers should never do this unless it's an emergency. I'm sorry that sometimes things come up in life that take precedence over making it to a grooming appointment. She went on to say she doesn't need a customer like us who shows no respect for her time, saying that I've done this 2-3 times already in the last two years. I then mentioned that my dog's been getting dermatitis after each grooming appointment for the last four months and that she wasn't able to sleep for two weeks after each one of these appointments. The lady got VERY defensive and started yelling at me again. I don't care how angry you are, you should never lose your temper and yell at a customer. That is customer service 101. Then she started calling my dog all sorts of names. She said verbatim, "your dog comes in here dirty like a leper, with all sorts of skin conditions and infections everywhere (this is not true. My dog just has sensitive and dry skin). I don't even want to brush her teeth but I do it anyway free of charge because I know your mom." And the worst part of it all: she hung up on me in the middle of our conversation. Poor customer service aside, I don't understand how a person who thinks this way of dogs can be in the dog grooming business. I've seen her complain about dogs that urinate in her shop before/after a bath. She acts like she loves dogs when the owners are around but I could only imagine how she treats them when the owners are not there. If my dog was so clean looking, why would I bring her to the shop for grooming? If you don't want to deal with a groomer who has a holier-than-thou attitude and extremely short-tempered, then avoid this shop and find some place else. She also raised the prices about half a year ago, attributing it to high rent in the area, and that's when my dog started getting dermatitis after each visit. Not sure if high rent affected the grooming supplies she's been using. As a customer, you should be in charge of scheduling. With this lady, she will tell you when you can and can't come. She is unprofessional at best. More than anything though, I definitely don't want anyone who's going to be calling my dog names to be working on her with a pair of grooming shears. read more

Good groomers are hard to come by. Awesome groomers are even more of a rarity. I didn't trust anyone with my dog...until Nancy came along. The name of her shop says it all: Tender Loving Care. My pup has been seeing Nancy regularly and on a monthly basis for the past 6 years and we refuse to see anyone else. This is because Nancy ALWAYS provides my dog with the utmost care. When you drop your dog off with Nancy, you can rest assured knowing that your pup will be pampered with the utmost love and care and that you will leave a very happy customer. Nancy has always provided the best care ever, and she has recently added Cathy to her team. The two of them are a power team - They are personable and trustworthy. They are gentle and genuinely concerned about your pet. You can tell that they truly love animals. My dog always comes out perfectly groomed from head to paw. Nancy and Cathy use high quality products and never sacrifice quality or rush their grooming services. They always put in the extra effort to make sure your pet is comfortable, clean and perfect for pick-up. Our miniature schnauzer Fritz has been going to Nancy for a few years now -- first when she worked for a chain pet-store company, and later when she opened her own business. Nancy treats Fritz well despite the fact that he's high maintenance and very rowdy around strangers. It's part of the reason we started bringing Fritz to her in the first place, as few groomers could actually handle him well. TLC Grooming is located along the El Camino in a little Asian plaza. The office itself is a bit small and Nancy is the only groomer on site. She's also being booked solid, and even her regulars are having to be squeezed into her schedule. Despite this, Nancy makes sure to book Fritz through the next few months and we have never had any problems with the scheduling. If you can get your pet an appointment with Nancy, you'll never want to visit another groomer again. Your pets will love her, and you'll undoubtedly come to love this lady too! read more

I went to TLC Grooming because it's closer to home and b/c of the raving reviews. Based on the reviews I don't doubt Nancy is a great groomer. She is personally sweet and I liked that she asked for Rabies Certification and any other issues or concerns I had about my pet. Nancy's grooming shop is clean and open so you can see everything going on. Another plus! The problem I had with Nancy was that she was not able to handle my shy terrier who only weighs 11 pounds. My dog is very shy around strangers and if you talk to her like a person she will shy away. I gave instructions not to "baby talk" my terrier but to just pick her up with confidence and start grooming her (as other groomers have done over the past 8 years with no problems). She ignored my instructions and continued to talk to my dog and my dog kept finding a place to hide. After that she said she could not work with my dog which was very disappointing. She was afraid to even pick her up! I took my miniature back to my previous groomer (where she always gets a great cut, just that it's farther away from home) and she was picked up and groomed with no problems. read more

If I could rate a negative star I would. My mother had brought her Goldendoodle her, to Nancy, before and she did a great job. Then right before the first weekend of December she brought him him to be groomed and instructions to keep him fluffy (they were going to take pics for the holidays). Long story short my Dad picks him up cause my Mom is getting sick pays the woman $100 and give her the $20 tips my mother instructed him to and he came home with a sheared dog. I mean he looked ready for summer, he was so cold we had to buy him a sweater ( no not kidding). Needless to say no holiday pics this year. What worse when my mother called the owner gave her attitude and said he was matted, NOT. Mother did hair for over 39 years and made sure he wasn't matted so it wouldn't be an issue. Seems like she was in a hurry because she over booked, it's after Christmas and dog still looks like crud (trying not to cuss here). DON'T EVER GO HERE...unless you need your pet sheared...good for sheep maybe? read more

OK, this is my third groomer in bay area. the first two groomers are both in San Francisco which are quite far away from where I live. Today I really have a bad experience there. I stopped by the store on time and when I checked in with that Korean groomer(owner), she found that my vaccine was expired, so she called my vet Santa Clara pet hospital.But unfortunately they were closed. I said I would come at once to bring it because I live nearby(less than 10 mins drive).But she said her next customer is coming and I am totally waste her time, as well I could not make any appointment until "next year". then, I think I really make a big mistake. I said "just let him stay here and I would be back soon.I have same situation with My precious groomer and he allowed me to do that. You should ask me to bring the vaccine in advance because I do not know your copy is expired!" At this point, she is totally angry, shout at me:" just go find other groomer, go go go go go!!!!!!!" she really ruins my day. although she was no nice to me in my past two visits, I thought that is just the way she is.Why do I still make appointment with her to punish myself? I should follow my friends advise to try Lovin' all the babies. I do not even want to give her one star! I loved my dogs haircut, but a couple days after the cut, he got a horrible ear infection. I know it was from this place because he never gets his ears plucked, and the owner insisted on doing it because it was included with the price. Long story short, it was not worth it and he will not be going back. Plus, they never answer your phone calls or return messages!! read more

Nancy is one of the genuinely nicest people I've ever met. She returns calls promptly and is always extremely friendly. I was running a little late for my dogs appointment so I called to let her know and she was really understanding. Others groomers are on tight schedules which means if I'm late, my dog is stuck there all day. I was also pleasantly surprised to find out she is the only groomer and grooms a few dogs a day. I love the fact she is about quality not quantity. She pays special care and attention to each dog which made me feel so at ease. When I first brought my pup she made sure to ask me in detail about how I wanted him groomed and what her grooming services entail. Sure enough, he came out perfect. Actually, he looks better than I expected! Not to mention she is about $20 cheaper than all of the other places that made my dog look horrible and/or didn't provide the services they said they did. I have been to my fair share of groomers in the past, and this one is definitely the winner! Nancy is amazing. She cares so much about each and every one of her doggy customers, and treats them like her own. Every time I bring my little Chloe to Nancy, she does a fantastic job, and is very thorough in her work. I never have to worry about Chloe getting hurt, or looking bad after a cut. Yes, normally she is booked up for about 2-3 months, so make sure to call in advance for an appointment. Leave a message, she will return your call! Nancy gives you a specific time for an appointment, and she only works on one dog at a time. This means you can get your dog in and out and on the way. No sitting around all day with no food, water, or potty breaks. It took me 2 years to find a groomer I could trust in the Bay Area, and I'm so lucky that I finally have! Thanks Yelp! read more

Sad to see negative comments here but that's how it goes. Number one reason I went to Nancy in the first place was because of research and reviews. My problem dogchild doesn't like other dogs other than her mate Paco. So I was worried if I took her to a place that does more than 2 at a time then she would fly off the handle and cause the groomer to snip her ear or accidentally cut her nails too close. Not only does Lola run to the door instead of away she gets excited to be there. Dogs aren't stupid if there was anything negative about this place she would do that. She looks like a queen after. Paco goes too and he loves it and he's more on the timid mama's boy side. She slots them both in the same day. This has spared me additional costs: I don't have to book different appointments with vet for nail trims, claw trimming or anal gland cleaning. Nancy does it all and treats them as if they were her pets. That to me is more important than "oh my dog got over trimmed" boo hoo. If you have had a dog that long then why don't you learn to do trimmings if that's so important for pictures? Jeez but to ruin someone's rep because dog got over trimmed? To me complaints are when a dog is injured. I've gotten bad haircuts before but I gave my hairdresser a second chance. People in dog shows learn to groom their pets. I have more important things to complain about besides being cut too short then why'd you take your dog in the winter? I don't do professional pictures with my dogs EVER, my concern is for their well being and that they are never mishandled in any way. I feel confident my dogs are safe while in the care of Nancy. Other ridiculous complains here that don't fly with me: Sarcastically stating-I have to take time off to take dogs in. Oh and you have take time off to go to you doctor's appointment? so why is it a problem to take time off for your dog's well being? I don't have kids so this is my kid and yes I will take time off to go to a groomer that is caring, clean and thorough over a cattle run type of pet groomer's or a pet store where you don't get the same person every time. I will keep coming here and hopefully she will keep getting nice reviews from realistic people. Some of the complaints remind me of a hilarious movie made about eccentric dog owners "Best In Show". You should watch it and you should also pay atttention to all the other reviews on other places where dogs get ears accidentally snipped. read more

Anyone that has a dog that needs grooming is looking for the BEST groomer in the business, one that truly loves dogs, is caring and does the job right! We have been looking for a dog groomer for life, not a different one every 2 months, Nancy is the one! Very thorough and makes our pooch feel comfortable because he senses her gentleness and her love. Can't ask for more than that! Meticulous and on time, reliable, honest and listens to how you want your dog cut! Other groomers have you drop your dog off and then when they are behind on time, your beloved pooch spends extra time/hours in a crate. Or they call you when they have time versus Nancy at TLC who is conscientious enough to call you when you want (before she is finished) so you can p/u your dog with no or minimal time in a crate. ........... Petco overcharges and was incomplete on the dog grooming, found out later, they did not cut the hair out of my dogs ears.We were wondering why he was constantly scratching his ears for the past month. Petsmart is like an assembly line with some workers looking like they hate being there. Another groomer we used had NO A/C on a scorching day and I had to call them to ask if they were finished with my dog since it seemed late and he was and had been for an hour sitting in a crate, they were supposed to call me and they didn't. Never again.... And yet another groomer, did not listen and our dog did not get groomed the way we wanted and instructed. Never again.... It is a good feeling to know you have the right groomer for rest of my pooches life. TLC Grooming and Nancy rocks! read more
