As a retired U.S. Air Force veteran, I take pride in supporting veteran-affiliated businesses. That's why I initially chose to work with TLC Auto Detail, operated by David (Dave) Miller and Rachael Dailey. I've spent close to $9,000 with them over the years. Unfortunately, I can no longer recommend or trust this business. I paid a $600 deposit for a service I canceled a week in advance. The owner, Dave Miller, assured me the deposit would be refunded. Four months later, I'm still waiting. I've followed up at least 11 times and received nothing but empty promises and excuses. They provided no service, yet kept my money. That's not how you treat a loyal customer. I filed a BBB complaint (Case #23237895) that TLC Auto Detail never responded to, and I disputed the charge with my bank in hopes that they are able to resolve this for me. This business has completely lost my trust. read more

As a small business owner myself, I really don't like writing bad reviews of other small businesses. Unfortunately though I've had this bottled up for way too long and feel that it needs to be publicly shared. Additionally, I have communicated recently with 6 other people on the Tesla Northern Virginia group on Facebook who have had near-identical experiences with TLC. Buyer beware! The reason they have such good reviews is because when they mess up, they offer a refund if you sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) agreeing to not post any negative reviews. They did this to me and many other people. See the full story below: I purchased a Tesla in December 2019 and scheduled with TLC to have PPF and tint installed shortly after delivery. After getting my car back from them, I was shocked at the sloppy PPF install. Pieces were peeling, edges were not cut correctly, edges were not tucked, large gaps of un-protected areas were exposed, there were bubbles everywhere, etc. It looked like they had a trainee do my entire car. I've attached pictures to this review showing the sloppy install. When I complained to TLC, they said that it was normal and that PPF was never perfect. Basically their answer was that I just needed to lower my expectations. I originally believed them and just decided I had to accept it, but it continued to get worse and began peeling even more. I took my Tesla back to them and they offered to trim off the peeling edges, but they refused to replace any of the pieces. I let them trim the edges, and all it did was make things worse and left huge gaps. I took my car to another local shop for a second opinion. They were appalled and couldn't believe what had happened. They said that PPF can indeed be installed perfectly and that this was one of the worst PPF installations they had ever seen. They removed several PPF pieces and found that TLC had scraped huge sections of my paint with a razor blade, permanently damaging the paint. My car had been completely butchered. The other PPF shop helped me coordinate with a body shop to get my car re-painted to repair all of the razor blade marks. The body shop was ALSO horrified at the terrible PPF job, so much so that the owner of the body shop called TLC's owner (Dave Miller) and insisted that Dave needed to pay for my re-paint. After some back and forth, Dave agreed. Once the painting was done, my car was taken back to the other PPF shop and they did an absolutely amazing/excellent job - one that I would consider essentially perfect. The difference between TLC's work and this other local shop was huge. After this entire ordeal, I asked Dave if he would refund me. He agreed to a partial refund if I signed an NDA. He sent me an NDA with typos which I requested multiple times be corrected before signing, and it took weeks to get him to reply to me. Finally in the end I decided to not sign it because I wanted to be able to share my experience with others. I never got my money back and basically had to pay twice to have PPF installed on my car. It was a costly mistake considering the massive amount of time I spent trying to get it fixed and the amount of time I spent without my car while it was being repaired. I will give TLC credit where credit is due...the tint job they did was fantastic; however, that was after they re-did several windows that had bubbles and were not originally installed correctly (they claimed the bubbles would go away, but they never did, so they finally agreed to re-do the windows that had bubbles and it's been fine ever since). If only they could have handled the PPF as well as the tint. read more

I found TLC Auto Detail through a google search. What struck me was that they had amazing reviews and a 5/5 star rating on every single review website (Google, Facebook, Yelp, etc...). I had to see what all this hype was about. I had my 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA treated with a single step paint correction prior to coating it with Cquartz Finest for long term gloss and protection. A couple of months has gone by and my car still looks just as flawless as the day I picked it up. I had a fantastic experience with Dave and TLC. I called to inquire about it and Dave provided me loads of valuable information about the process and the benefits. From how thorough he was, I knew I 100% wanted to do it so when the wheels were shipping out, I had them shipped directly to their shop for a ceramic coating. The wheels arrived there Tuesday afternoon and I went to get them Thursday morning, everything was prompt and ready. As I arrived, the wheels were laid out ready for me to check them out. Dave was very friendly and showed me around the shop, walked me through everything I needed to know. It's always nice to meet like-minded people who are obsessive about doing a great job and making things perfect -- that's exactly what you want in a detailer! Dave Miller is the real deal when it comes to auto detailing. He isn't just your average production line buff/wax detailer. He is meticulous and the place you want to go if your car is special and you want it done right. Some examples of what I like working with him: - easy communications through email; text; and live on phone. very responsive - extremely detailed from measuring paint depth before/after any polishing to be sure he's only doing as much polish as needed and protect clear coat - very knowledgeable about waxes, and longer term sealants. - knows about everything there is to getting rid of swirl marks and guiding you on avoiding them / slowing down as much as possible going forward - doesn't operate out of a truck; has his own space with everything he needs - nice guy - loves cars Too bad he's not closer to me or I'd use him for maintenance washes. If there is any downside, it is that he's not cheap....but I do think you get what you pay for with him. If you are looking for this level of professional detailing, then you won't find the pricing unreasonable. Comparing it to guys in a parking lot with a truck who get a car cleaned/polished/waxed in an hour, then you'll find it expensive, but there is no comparison in the end result. Dave is doing work worthy of a car being displayed at a car show, not a quick shine. He's taking each car as a project to get it just right, spending all day or even multiple days. Dave removed stains that were on the carpet of the interior as well as shampooing the entire vehicle, provided leather treatment for the leather seats, cleaned all the stains within the trunk area, restored the wood grain shine within the vehicle, along with waxing & buffing. The exterior of the vehicle looked FLAWLESS. Words cannot describe the way the vehicle looked when finish, as I was utterly speechless. Best detailer in No. VA! I took my 325xi there twice over the past few years and they did a phenomenal job each time! They're very responsive and patient, and they explain thoroughly the different services they offer. Even better, they tell you when something's not worth doing. My car was a 2004 model and the hood had chips in it from (presumably) heavy highway travel. Rather than tell me I needed the top-of-the-line treatment, they were honest and said if I wanted that, it'd be better to get it repainted and then bring it back once the paint was cured. I never wound up doing that because of the expense, but I appreciated the transparency and honesty. Their work was impeccable and I was very pleased with the result. I've since acquired an M3 and will definitely be having that detailed at TLC. I highly recommend them to anyone searching for quality detailing with no bs! read more

My beloved standard shift 1996 Toyota RAV4 after 258K miles and a rebuilt motor, deserved a superlative detailing. I had TLC detail my 2010 Fusion last weekend and I was very pleased with the experience. First of all, Dave's customer service is second to none. We did all communication through e-mail and he always replied promptly and completely; always answering all of my questions. Dave fully detailed the card, including a one step paint correction. What was most impressive was the amount of defects Dave was able to remove from the paint in just the one step while still polishing the paint back to a nice level of gloss and clarity. Had I had a larger budget, I have no doubt that Dave could have brought the car back up to new or better condition. In addition, Dave let's you be as engaged in the process as you like. To the point of letting you pick the products you'd like used if you wish. This is great for people like me that know a fair amount about detailing and products but don't have the time to do it themselves. I also greatly appreciate the fact that Dave offers free pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This made the process much more convenient for me. I can only think of two negatives, the first being price. Given the quality of the work, you can expect significant cost. I think it is a combination of Dave's skill and also the cost of living in this area. That said, I have no regrets and Dave did mention that he offers a repeat customer discount. The other negative is a small issue with his website. I wish that the interior services were listed in the same detail as the exterior services are. Got a "new" 2008 SL65AMG Majestic Black Metallic delivered from Scottsdale, AZ, and found the finish to be swirly and cloudy, particularly on the hood. Called Dave Miller. He explained what he could offer, came by and picked up the car at my home, took it to his shop in Chantilly and worked nothing less than magic. After paint correction and Cquartz Finest Platinum the luster of the paint is now spectacular! The blue overtones of the paint now pop out with sparkles in full sun outdoors and in the shade of the garage. Dave is very communicative and patiently explains everything he plans to do and does exactly that. I had just bought a new 2016 Mustang GT and noticed there were many swirl marks on the car from the dealership washing it. I brought my car in to tlc auto detail for a full paint correction and for cQuartz finest. Dave and his staff were extremely nice to me and even offered me an uber to get back home! When the car was finished it looked as it should have when I bought it. Spotless and clean. Despite my car being black(which is the hardest color to get perfect with no swirl marks), Dave and his staff did a remarkable job. My car was about 99% swirl free. Found Dave/TLC through some online forums and decided to have my car Opti-Guarded through him. Price was good and he was very communicative from scheduling through to the end. I scheduled the work for Thursday, and Dave let me drop off my car on Wednesday night since that worked better for me. Originally, I asked Dave to drop off the car at my home around 5pm on Thursday. Unfortunately, I got stuck at work and asked him to bring it there instead (an additional ~15 miles away). He had no issues with that and was very accommodating.
