This was my first visit to this Tlaquepaque restaurant. I came in with a bunch of family, and we all enjoyed it. Our server was Olivia, who was really skilled. She was nice, professional, and available. She is really excellent! So, as far as the food goes, everything was good. We had a plain cheeseburger and fries for a kid. Another kid had the shrimp tacos which were really good. Three tacos with a side of rice and beans. The shrimp was super tasty and the portion was of a decent size. I had the pollo portosino, which consists of pieces of grilled chicken cooked with bacon and topped with cheese sauce. It also came with rice, refried beans and tortillas. The flavor of this was pretty great. Good salty bacon came with it, and I like dishes with tortillas on the side. The rice at this location is very good and has plenty of flavor. Another family member had the Mount Airy special, which is basically a chimichanga (chicken in this case). Chimis are always a good meal, and this was no exception. Overall, the whole table was pleased and we came away with our to-go boxes and a smile on our faces. I bought some food there the other day, takeout. After I got home I noticed a .75 charge for "Takeout." Excuse me, I'm coming to get it! I know that's not a lot money, but over time it adds up. I called the restaurant and spoke with the manager who stuttered trying to explain why the charge was there and hung up on me (rude). Just another way these people nickel and dime everyone. Food was bland. Queasabirra was soggy, not able to hold by hand and dip into consume. Margarita's were weak and tasted like they dumped sour candy into it. Ordered a Bean, rice and cheese burrito with no sauce and it came out looking like an enchilada. WTH! Smelled like cigarettes inside as well. Service was meh. I've said it before but I mean it this time I won't be back here EVER! I understand that waiters or waitresses have to be trained but to put someone who it's their first day out by themselves not shadowing anyone and expect them to know what they are doing is crazy! Our waiter was new and clueless on EVERYTHING! We ordered drinks and had to ask for straws. We then ordered our food and it came out but when asked where our side of beans and the salad it came with he said No it doesn't come with that. So I went and got a menu thinking I read it wrong and nope I was right I asked the manager and they fixed it but the cheese dip we also got was cold which isn't the first time we've had this problem. My wife and I headed out to hanging rock state park for a hike this AM. We enjoyed a wonderful hike and look to stop in King for lunch on our way back home. Checking Yelp for taco options we chose to try Tiaquepaque for a first visit. It was not very busy with unexceptional Mexican decorations. Our server raved about the lunch specials so we tried ChimichungS. I had beef and my wife had chicken. After eating( I nearly liked my plate clean) she commented. That was tasty. My husband and I, recently, have been going once a week. Lunch specials from 11a - 3p save you a couple of dollars. Meals are big enough for us to split with a basket of chips and salsa and the occasional cheese dip. Be sure to check in on Yelp to get a free cheese dip. We also get a generous glass of sangria and merlot for $3.50. Overall, food comes out fast. Service is hit or miss, which is the reason for the 4-stars. It's not been super busy during our visits. Carne asada was good, micheladas too. My husband ordered caldo 7 mares which is a seafood soup with 7 types of seafood. They served him a plain soup with crab imitation, and a few very disappointing. If you want authentic Mexican food, this is definitely not the place. read more

Pretty nice restaurant located just north east of King in a shopping mall. Great place for lunch if your on the way to Hanging Rock State Park. Plenty of seating inside and very nice and helpful employees. Menu is pretty much the same as any other Mexican restaurant. The atmosphere is the most impressive in the King area. read more

I know its hard to find good help but if you are working in king nc speak english and if you are from king nc use your brain and remember to bring what is ordered. Forgetting 1 thing is understandable but forgotten cheese dip then forgotten sour cream and limes then leaving empty plates and bottles. I just have to say, I had lunch here today with some friends on Mother's Day and the food was great. The service was awesome drinks refills and chip refills were non stop. I had received a text message offer for a free small cheese dip that we used and enjoyed. My girl friend was given a long stem red rose as well as several other Mother's Day customers. I really like this joint. it seems that so many times the mex places all run together and you can't tell them apart. I don't want you to think this is gourmet mex, just nicely done. I am not shouting it from the roof but in my humble opinion they beat the other local mex place in king. really good guac. they do a good job on cali burrito. The big beer is always cold and big. Used to be an excellent place with good food and good fun. Last couple of times we ate there, it was way past mediocre. I am not sure how a place could go so wrong, but it did. This restaurant is not that good. The food does not feel like quality authentic Mexican food. You might as well call it Taco Bell. I ordered a stake and it was too greasy not well seasoned and just not worth 10 to 15 dollars. The beans are not good but not too horrible they need more work. I haven't had Mexican food in forever because of GERD and an ulcer, but my husband recently tried this restaurant and I took a nibble of his dish and it wasn't spicy, or too greasy. A little wet if you get the beef on anything, but so delicious. Our take out order always comes with chips and salsa and I can't have the salsa, but the smell and freshness of it makes my mouth water! I can have the soft shell beef tacos with no stomach issues and it is so good. We've had those and Pelusa, Carne Asada, Chicken Quesadilla, and are going for just deserts one hot evening this summer. **In the middle of this review, we actually called in an order for pickup. Usually it is a young woman who answered, today it was an older man. They got my order wrong (1st time ever), but it was still delicious.
