Very good American Mexican food!!! Everything ive ever had was very good and the waitstaff is always very sweet.

Food is poor quality the cheese sauce is so watered down it's inedible. My daughter ordered the enchiladas and got sick almost immediately on the way home . They also have unexplained fees attached to your orders like a take out fee........ On Sunday I with a friend who ordered a couple drinks as did I before leaving I placed an order to go and I paid a tip for sitting having drinks then an additional fee of almost $2.00 to take food home. I came in for a late lunch, because I've been to the Pilot Mountain Tlaquepaque before, and I knew I could get a decent meal pretty quickly. If you look at the menu, the food is very Americanized, not like Taco Bell, but they serve what Americans in this area are used to. Nothing wrong with that, but don't come in looking for something amazing you just saw in Southern California or any of the border states. The food here is decent. It tastes good and so far has always been warm. The staff is friendly and available. I ordered tacos al pastor, which came with a side of rice (decent flavor) and beans (meh). The tacos are decent, not the best I've had but pretty good. They come with pico de gallo (which was fairly bland) and a hot sauce which had a nice flavor and some heat. This location is head and shoulders above the Mount Airy location in terms of food and service. read more

I used to eat there twice a week. Idk what's happened to this place. Prices are way up food is not good & there was some guy selling donuts from table to table in there. Well I've gotten my belly full of this location and place. It's just the restaurant industry and what we all have to look forward too. Yummy! We love this restaurant! Being from SoCal, often vacationing in Mexico, we know good Mexican food. We were so worried that when we moved that we would be giving up awesome and authentic Mexican cuisine but this delicious restaurant is just around the corner from us and we frequently eat here or order takeout! Don't drive too fast or you'll miss it. Food was definitely decent, and the menu had a good amount of variety in the multiple colorful pages! We showed up relatively late with a larger group (7) and were immediately seated. Service was on point the whole time - somebody was always attentive. Was pretty disappointed in the alcoholic options, but we just got a drink afterwords :) Started off with chips which were fine, nothing special, and I asked for some salsa verde which was excellent. I ended up splitting a large (double, of 'for two') order of shrimp fajitas with The Lady, which needed more fillings to make it worth the price and able to be spread between the provided tortillas. What was provided, however, was great! Nice caramelized flavors and the shrimp was seasoned very well. First off ill start by saying 5 people eating for under $50 it amazing! (That includes drinks.) I was pleased to find a good Mexican place here in North Carolina. I didn't think outside of Michigan or NYC I would find suck a good place. But I am happy I got a chance to eat here not once but twice before I left. read more

Prices are great. Service is consistently good to very good. Modelo Especial on tap is a real plus. The food is very good, especially the Mexicana Parillada (the carnitas in this mix are the best thing I've had there). Only issue I've ever had was with the campechana. Some nights it's great, some nights it's not (shrimp not quite as fresh or the tomato sauce will be a little thin). Overall though, it's a great option out here in the boonies and the kids love it as well. read more

One would not expect to find a decent Tex-Mex place in the middle of pretty much nowhere, but Tlaquepaque was surprisingly good. I came with three other people on a Saturday night so they were a little busy, especially because a group of 22 people had just walked in without making a reservation (seriously, if you're with such a large group of people, please make a reservation as a courtesy to the restaurant and other diners...). Our waiter seemed very frazzled but he was attentive. Our water glasses were never empty and he refilled our chips and salsa basket very quickly. We were in a time crunch so the wait because of the large party was a little annoying. With that said, the food was really good - all of us wished that we had more time to eat and enjoy. My brother shared a fajita plate with cactus in it shrimp and steak with his friend, and they both really liked the cactus. I ordered a bowl of Mexican chicken soup because I wasn't very hungry, and it came topped with pico de gallo and cubes of avocado. They also gave me half a lime. The soup was more broth-y, which is what I like, so I really enjoyed it. My boyfriend got shrimp in chipotle sauce, which was also excellent. The sauce was super flavorful and had a nice kick. Prices were very reasonable and we all agreed that if we were ever back in Pilot Mountain, we would come here again. read more

Not bad, not terrible, Just average. I took away a star because both of my appetizers were missing from the bag and they took forever. The place was empty when I got there so no excuse for a slow incorrect order. I may give them a try again but I consider myself a pretty decent Mexican cook so I'll probably just make my own. If I try them again I'll update my rating. I've made subsequent visits to this place and have been really impressed with the food. Loved this place! Visited some people who live near this restaurant back in May, and for 5 people we ate delicious Mexican fare all for under 50$. Unheard of for me, especially being from NYC. The kiddos and I like this place because it appeals to the masses. My youngest got a plain cheeseburger and fries, daughter got their ACP (grilled pieces of chicken breast smothered in their white cheese sauce) with rice, and I ordered the steak fajita quesadilla. (It's my current favorite thing there.) The quesadilla is grilled and folded over...and it houses a good amount of steak strips, green pepper, onion, grilled tomato and white cheese. It comes with rice and an guacamole salad. As usual, the chips were hot and the salsa was good and cold--with just the right blend of veggies and cilantro. Great service, too. The experience today was terrible. my grandparents and I took a visit here at this location. The first time we went here it was decent. But this time....terrible. we waited 35 minutes for our food which it was not that busy maybe a total of twenty people. Once our food came to us it was down right cold and yet the waiter said "careful hot plate" the iron pan wasn't even sizzling no steam at all. Beans cold guacamole warm. It sat on the warmer in the kitchen. Was that the worst part? No. The waiter than tried to tell me the chalupa I ordered didn't come with meat. I asked why? An authentic chalupa comes with meat. He told me no it does not. So I guess my years in culinary school and traveling didn't mean anything? No sorry or anything. I dropped the subject of what was authentic and what was not. I then asked for a burrito as a replacement. His exact word were "can you read it to me from the menu so I can make sure it's what you want and authentic for you" I pushed the sarcasm aside and told him exactly what came on it. even then they got it wrong! Microwaved meat and veggies. I told the manager if they needed help training those cooks and waiters I will help. I paid and left very upset. read more

My family and I stopped here for dinner while meeting some friends last Saturday night, it was my first time visiting this restaurant and I have to say I wasn't expecting a whole lot by the looks of the outside (don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with it, just looks like a little mom & pop place). The food was actually amazing, we don't even live in Pilot Mountain and talked about driving back just to eat there again! Everything was on point, I ordered the mexican pizza (don't let the name fool you) its actually a quesadilla with steak, chicken, shrimp, grilled peppers and onions and melted cheese. Huge, I could only eat half but not for lack of trying, I assure you. My dad got the california burrito stuffed with steak and cheese, tomatos, sliced avacados on top and brother got the combo (pick any 2 or 3) hard taco, burrito, chalupa..and we raved about it the whole meal which is odd for us as most mexican places are pretty typical.
