One of our favorite Mexican joints and we eat here almost weekly when we come up to Mayodan to hit Wally World. Food is always fresh and service is solid. Ate here for lunch on Sunday and definitely not what I expected. This location has been here for many years so I assumed it must be good. They were not busy but it took 30 minutes to get my son's tacos. My chicken fajitas came when he was done eating. Both of our meals were extremely hot and extremely burned. My meal came with beans and lettuce which appeared as I was boxing up my food. I literally took 1 bite and asked for a to go box. I just can't eat burnt chicken. I Visited San Marcos last night, for the first time in several years. The salsa was fair, Chip were COLD. I ordered Pollo Sinaloa with rice and beans. The serving of chicken topped with grilled vegetables was TINY. When my plate a arrived I thought they forgot the chicken. It was a very small, thin piece of chicken, topped with barely enough grilled vegetables to hide it. The grilled vegetables were very good, just not many of them!! Plenty of rice and beans... Good morning , First I have been going to San Marcos since they opened. And I have lived in this area for over 22 years. It has been our regular restaurant when we are running late to get home and wanted something good to eat from work or a sporting event. My wife was getting home late last night and picked up dinner for us. She order the the pollo Sinaloa and I ordered the super burrito. Her first bite she took she literally spit it out into her napkin. It was a big bite of chicken gristle. Which can happen. Then she cut another bite and the chicken had a rubbery spongey texture. She look at me and said. I can't eat this. I had not taken a bite of mine yet. I said we could share mine. We both took bites of my super burrito and it was absolutely un edible. The chicken had strange texture. The bacon was undercooked the shrimp were rubbery. And it had absolutely no flavor. I have never taken back food to a restaurant. I just usually throw it away and chalk it up to the restaurant is having a bad night . We drive back to the restaurant and quietly explain the situation as we did not want to make a scene. We asked for a refund. The manager said they could refund my wife pollo Sinaloa but it looked like I had eaten more of my super burrito which I couldn't because it is un edible. It was very disappointing and after all these years eating at San Marcos. I will be finding a New Mexican restaurant. I would not recommend eating there to anyone. read more

I had planned on visiting sooner however Covid and schedule has prevented it. My previous review was based on a terrible experience where most folks around us were sending food back. The most recent visit gave me faith that restaurant owners do pay attention. WOW, what a impressive improvement. The salsa was one of the best I've tasted, street tacos and the burritos were delicious. Most important, service....our waiter was very attentive and paid attention to every detail. Coming back from Martinsville and found this very tasty and friendly restaurant. Very traditional looking restaurant with fun colors and flair around the place. Had some great Mexican food. Got the ground beef burrito and enchiladas. Very good, solid food. Chips and Salsa were good. Not amazing but very solid. Warm chips would be better but you can't get everything you want! I stated working in Stoneville, NC in mid-December. When I found San Marcos I thought i had found an old friend as the food was very similar to what I had in Oklahoma. The food is good, but the customer service is sadly lacking. On 3/12/2024 @ 4:15 PM I stopped in and ordered three tamales. I drove home (40-minute drive one way) and planned to warm them up when I was ready to eat. So, when I did open the order, it was not mine. I immediately call and the manager (Dani? female) said she knew and was sorry. I was given three options. 1. I could drive the 40 minutes and get the correct order. 2. I could get them another day. 3. They could credit my card. one was out of the question, and I stated I was upset that now I had no dinner. They did not care. Nothing was offer for the inconvenience that their staff created. I will not be eating there again. read more

I went to this place for the first time. I've lived in town for 4 years and never been. I give it four stars for what it is, a Mexican restaurant in a strip mall. Service was good, they refilled my drink like 20 times. I got the chimney-congas fried with chicken. It was very good with the cheese sauce they put on top. The free chips are what you would expect. I liked the thin restaurant style salsa. I hate chunky salsa. Wife got a chicken burrito and chicken enchilada. She didn't like it. They put some type of red sauce on top oh hers that did not go well with the meal. read more

Although the meal and service were excellent, $53 per couple is not competitive with other near by restaurants. The $6-8 draft beer prices serve as an example. We have been here a few times. Only once has the food actually been good. Tonight not so much. I had shrimp tacos and they were flavorless , and the soft shells were very stale tasting. My (adult) daughter ordered the beef and vegetable soup, which ended up not being available. Another soup was recommended and we didn't realize it was a seafood and fish soup. My daughter took one sip of the broth and said it had a horrible flavor. We put it to the edge of the table. After a while the server returned with no offer to get her something else or take it off the bill. Very poor customer service and do not plan to return. read more

This place is just terrible. It looked blah but I needed protein and thought, "You can't go wrong with beef fajitas." This place proved that you can most definitely go wrong. The full dinner order of Fajitas is about less than four ounces of scrap meat shredded so fine, I kid you not, they look like tiny worms. It was the funniest thing I ever saw. I'm hooked on the Pollo Feliz (which I generally can't remember the name of and just call Merry Chicken, which the waiters tend to understand). We've ordered the tacos al carbon a couple of times and not been quite as impressed. It can tend to be a bit dry. The restaurant is decorated nicely and the staff will sing an odd and loud version of a birthday song to birthday people (good thing to know for an unsuspecting guest). I am hesitant to write a review as just a month ago I had a wonderful meal at San Marcos. However, this evening something was very wrong. Our plates came out hot but the food was cold. My Carnitas was hard and dry. The Black Beans had no flavor and looked dry from sitting out too long. My flour tortillas arrived cold and hard...and I sent the meal back. The manager stated their chef had recently left and a new one would be arriving tomorrow evening...and he was having to cook! Take it from someone who knows a little about customer service...don't try and cook anymore and if you don't have a chef...close for the evening. Better that...then throwing out all that food, as we were not the only table to send our meals back to the kitchen. The wait-staff was upset and scared as they were handling multiple complaints. Yet one young lady with short hair seemed to keep a smile on her face, was polite and handled the chaos with professionalism. No second chances. Amazingly the Carnitas pork was overcooked and dry. The beans were cold and tasteless. I sent the plate back as unacceptable and they returned it with some salsa verde that made it barely tolerable. The only positive was the clearly homemade corn tortillas. But... overall the place won't get a second chance to impress. read more
