I should have taken him there instead of trying someplace new. While I like the doctor (Molly Buckland), the practice itself, and some employees there could use improving. One not everyone who worked there was helpful, friendly or that pleasant to us. First visit we arrived on time and had to check in in the entryway, then we were sent elsewhere to check in again for some reason. Even though I filled out all the paperwork online well before our visit. Then we sat in one waiting area for about 40-50 minutes. Before someone came out asking who we were and said that the check in didn't show us waiting. When we did get back to a room we had a consultation basically. That went fine minus the fact we had to schedule the procedure for another day. That's another time he had to take off school or work. We were even asked if we would like an estimate. I replied "yes that'd be great." We went back to the second check in area and paid our bill in cash and made the appointment for two weeks later. While waiting for his appointment I never received an estimate. So I called first and left a message about me waiting for an estimate and asked for one and never got a response. So I looked up on the SKIN CARE MT website and went through all the info and found something that said $200-$800 depending on the procedure. Then I called back day or two before the appointment to get a better estimate and was told that it could be $400 or more. That's fine I actually expected to pay about $450. But was told they really couldn't say exactly how much. I let it go thinking that it would probably be around the amount I originally thought. Day of appointment arrives. We show up on time. Check-in is slow again and had to check in two places again even though I filled out paperwork again two days prior I had to do it again in office for some reason. Then I was told we had a balance due. Um, for what I asked? We paid for the first visit when we were here last. They said they would look in it and sent us to the waiting area. Wait wasn't very long this time. We got back he had his procedure and everything went fine, no complication, just a regular mole removal and it was fairly quick even. Went to check out and was given a total of......$950 something!!!!! So I asked ok is that with the amount we paid last time included?! "No that's just for today. I was able to see that you paid for your first visit." Oh thanks for letting me know. That's a far cry from the $400 I got when I called. And it's even SIGNIFICANTLY MORE than what was listed on the website of $400-$800. Now I'm pretty irritated, shocked and surprised. I did express that I was surprised by that cost but went on and paid $500-600 in cash and $200-300 on a card. They said they would bill me since a paid over half. Fine. Whatever. Made an appointment to get his stitches out in one week. Got to this appointment and my son actually said to me "are they gonna charge us another $900 today?!" I said they better not charge us anything or I'll take those stitches out myself." The check in was slightly faster. Waiting was about 10-15 minutes. Got back the assistant (for lack of the correct word....I'm not sure sure about her actually title sorry) "hadn't removed these type of stitches" so she needed help learning. It seemed a bit difficult for these two to get them out. Afterwards my son said it "really hurt. She was really pulling hard." And he's a tough footballer who doesn't complain of pain much. Thankfully no charge! I will NEVER go back here! The slightly attitudy Judy, the little troubles, inconveniences and them not getting me the correct estimate as offered all compounded for me and the final outrageous fee was really the last straw.

I've been an actual patient of his just a few times over the years, starting in 2012. Two things are especially notable: When this doctor sees you, it's actually **the doctor** seeing you! Dr. Tkach does all the technical work. (He does have one full-time office assistant and another part-time, but they're not technical people--they do the paperwork, especially tangling with the insurance companies.) Second, Dr. Tkach isn't in a hurry to get to the next patient. He doesn't schedule two patients for the same time, and it's likely he'll take half an hour (or more) with you, one-on-one. Also, he's not just a nine-to-five doctor. On most weekends, he spends several hours in the Montana State University library doing searches of the online medical literature and data bases for assistance in treating his patients who have highly challenging cases. (Since he's the Bozeman area's senior dermatologist, having started here in 1974, other doctors often refer to Dr. Tkach their patients whose cases have stumped them.) I know Dr. Tkach as a friend because of his regular attendance at the MSU Physics Department's weekly colloquia. (His extra-medical interests are wide-ranging.) Most weeks, he and I go to dinner after the colloquium, and that's how I've learned many important details about his professional life.
