My experience with TK Contractors was extremely disappointing due to major issues with project management and communication. While the subcontractors they use are skilled and professional, the management side of the company caused repeated delays and unnecessary frustration. The biggest problem was working with Tony Land, the "superintendent" . In my experience, he showed no urgency, rarely communicated, did not follow up on open items, and barely visited the job site to check progress. Even the subcontractors expressed frustration because they were often left waiting without direction or scheduling. Several items still needed attention, and there was zero communication about when they would be addressed. Oversight from his supervisor, Nate, started off responsive but quickly faded. Once the project was underway, accountability seemed nonexistent. It felt like, after signing the contract, timelines no longer mattered. The office staff also seemed more focused on payment releases than ensuring work was completed before requesting funds. Communication from the office matched the same lack of urgency. On the positive side, Jeff Elliot in sales was great to work with--professional, responsive, and helpful. And again, the subcontractors themselves did excellent work when they were actually scheduled. The only reason my project finished in six months was because I lived on the property and stayed persistent, constantly pushing for updates and questioning delays. If you are not able to be on‑site or stay heavily involved, expect the project to take much longer. read more

I hesitated to write this review because I don't believe anyone is perfect. However, I also believe it's important to share your experience with a builder--especially if others are having similar issues--so there can be a level of accountability. A few weeks ago, I reached out to Scott Hess at TK Constructors to inquire about building a home in Tippecanoe County, Indiana. Scott was pleasant and professional during our initial interaction, and he promptly followed up with information about their homes and building process via email. He also responded to my initial reply. However, after that exchange, I stopped hearing from him. In my reply, I had mentioned that there didn't seem to be many available home lots in Lafayette and asked if there was someone else I could speak with about building in another part of Indiana. Unfortunately, Scott did not respond. I followed up with a voicemail, but again received no reply. In the meantime, I reached out to one of his colleagues in Ohio, who was very helpful and professional. I let that person know I had been in contact with Scott, as we were still considering Indiana for our retirement home. I mention this only because I don't know if it may have had some bearing on the lack of follow-up from Scott. Regardless, I made another attempt to reach out to Scott via email, but still received no response. I don't know what happened, but I find this lack of communication unprofessional. If you've had--or are currently having--a similar experience with this builder, I encourage you to share your story. It raises the question of whether this company selectively chooses who they're willing to build homes for, which would be concerning. read more

I will never recommend anyone for TK builders. This is our second home that we have had them build. Poor workmanship by some of contractors they use. Had driveway and sidewalks contracted by them that is cracking and deteriorating. Site manager would not give me any information on who did the concrete work. 9/25/20 almost 6 months in our new home....so the gentlemen from Builders First Source came out to fix our patio door today, unfortunately the man that Dave Schroeder from TK trusts so much from in Kentucky, ordered the wrong parts to fix the door. However the gentleman did say that if Bill Davenport(our superintendent) had looked at the door when my husband asked, we wouldn't even be having this problem. I know that TK offers decent prices on home building, but the craftsmanship and terrible communication is NOT worth saving the $$$ read more

Bought a newly constructed spec home in 2014 in Chase Trail subdivision, Yorktown, IN. Quite shoddy workmanship throughout. Not sure there was a straight line in the whole place. Very combative and non responsive after sale was final. Do NOT recommend. read more

The first time the main shower was used, it leaked under the wall soaking the carpet in the adjacent bedroom. The toilet in the master bath leaked and ruined the subfloor and vinyl. They were to replace a damaged cabinet I. the kitchen but failed to do so since it looked fine. It was damaged on the inside. They left the replacement cabinet in the garage. Three years after I moved in, I discovered the washing machine has a leak due to cheap plastic shut off valve that was installed. This leak ruined the drywall behind the washing machine. Obviously BRS Mechanical was the sub contractor who did the plumbing and are now out of business. Yet after one year warranty TK was of no help. I had to purchase the shower that I ask for because they purchased the wrong one. This was during construction and TK argued with me about what I wanted. In the plans it stated a 5 foot shower with a corner seat. The seat was 4 foot high and more of a shelf. I checked on progress daily and had them replace faulty boards in the framing. Perfectly good ones were laying in the yard. I was very excited to have them install luxury vinyl plank flooring by Shaw. This was a new product they were offering. Today I will spend $8,000.00 replacing this floor with a lifetime warranty because it is buckling and pulling apart. TK gave me the name and number of the contractor who installed the floor but he will not return my calls. Buyer Beware! Lots of issues during construction and after one year, no support. After construction begins, Gary Nale was no help. His job is to make the sale and he wasn't willing to help in any way. I talked to Mark Thurston in the beginning about the wrong shower. He had a terrible attitude and argued that it was what I ordered. He didn't see the shower I received! Even after knowing that I was purchasing another shower, the workers set the wrong one in place and had to remove it. After all of the issues that have been fixed from MY wallet, I love my home. The overall construction is well done. It's the other issues that result in my saying, "Find another builder." read more

TK built a house for me. After closing there were numerous issues. Some were taken care of. 11 months later I t I red in my 1 year warranty repair list. Over a year later things have not been finished. The crew only did about 1 thing per trip working 1-2 hours. Bouncy floor, warped studs along outside wall causing humps outside under siding, crews mashed down attic insulation making ineffective, mold in closed crawl space due to improper encapsulation etc. The owner complained they had made too many trips even tho I begged them to come, bring the list, stay all day and fix stuff but they never did that. No new items on list except floor bounce and a door crew damaged that needs replaced. Supposed to have 10 year structural warranty that seems useless. The owner refused to discuss it on phone or come look, he sent me an email saying they weren't fixing anything. The owners son was in charge of warranty dept before he quit and he had the list, promised it would all be done. They use all subcontractors most don't speak english. Reality working with these people is quite different than their misleading tv commercials. Several lies were told to me and about me during the process. This was a horrible experience. Still very, very disappointed. Replaced part of water damaged bathroom floor (bathtub leaking underneath for quite a while) with much cheaper and uglier vinyl, smeared adhesive, loosely glued plastic strip on tub (must be to hide something) it wasn't there before. Sliding patio door has been worked on twice and is still very hard to operate. Shingles already showing signs of age, minor curling, some lifting after only 17 months. Bathroom door still does not fully shut and latch. Floor repair was started and left unfinished (no toilet) for about a month. It has been 17 months and we are no closer to being satisfied. We see no end to this nightmare. read more

Another with a recent bad experience with TK Constructors, now we are without a home and the ability to afford one with the skyrocketing prices. Communication is awful(and it sounds like it is an internal problem), after being told as recently as 6-17-21 by the salesperson that everything was fine, a contract was signed on 6-18-21 to complete preutility work, then on 6-19-21 the contract was pulled with a nearly $80,000 increase added. No thanks. Don't expect any help from TK if utilities are needed, you're on your own. They also drug their feet obtaining permits which put us in a bind since the utility will not survey the land until the building permit is in place. Wouldn't recommend TK to anyone. read more

We built our house in 2017, our house was (3) weeks late for completion in October 2017 and needed to move in. TK Constructors and myself made a list of all open items on a Addendum K Settlement Agreement document. TK has yet to complete all items on this list after many visits to our home. Per advertised (1) year warranty and contract, TK Constructors does a walk through with homeowner and together make a list of items to fix. I made a spreadsheet for all items discussed to keep track of progress and so on. TK Constructors did do some of the repairs, some repairs were done poorly and continue to be an issue, others are yet to be completed. The last visit was scheduled for August 6th between 10AM and 12PM, TK Constructors contractors show up ~ 8AM and of course nobody is home, I arrived at 9:15AM and all workers were gone. Just a few weeks ago, the service manger sent me an email and stated "TK Constructors, we are now considering this house closed and out of our service warranty". Basically stating that business serves as a two way street and that I was not cooperating with TK Constructors (although I have had to take off ~ 6 days from work and some notices were very short) although when contractors show up for work, they were not prepared to complete the task(s) at hand, thus resulting in many visits. read more

TK is worst company I ever dealt with. FY,I I worked and lived in three different continents. Within the U.S I've lived and worked in three different states with people of all walks of life (civilians, military, educators, students, religious, businessmen...). I bought some houses as of a late and I decided to build a new construction for investment property. I shopped around and found out the TK Constructors was the most affordable one. I decided to sign with them forgetting the saying that "You get what you pay for". From the beginning they were horrible, unfriendly, unethical and unprofessional. The salesperson in the Saint Leon Model Center basically never greeted me in the hundred emails and texts we exchanged. They made some false advertisements in their websites about getting permits for their customers and they put the opposite in the contract. I confronted them, they edited and updated the wording on their website (I have the screenshots of both websites. I complained one single time about the contradictory information I was getting from the salesperson, the VP of Sale asked the regional director to void my contract after they asked me to close a loan with a bank, pay for land surveying and cut the trees on my lot on my own expenses. After all those expenses, they brazenly and immorally decided to back out of the contract because I dare complaining one single time about the salesperson. Below is the timeline of nightmare with TK Constructors: 12/10/2020: I went to the TK Saint Leon Model Center in West Harrison, IN, they quoted for a Nantucket Model, 12/29/2020: I went there and deposit my earnest money. 12/31/2021: I signed the contract with TK by "DocuSign" 01/31/2021: Loan was approved, and estimate sent to me by MNB. 02/23/2021: TK asked me to order a survey. 03/05/2021: The bank emailed and said they had everything they need to close the loan on March 18, TK told me to wait until after pre-construction meeting. Then the bank re-schedule the closing on March 31. 03/10/2021: Land surveying is completed by Phoenix Survey & Engineering 03/16/2021: I ordered an electric pole from Duke energy for the lot on TK's recommendation. 03/24/2021: TK team production came to the lot for the first time to check the land surveying and the stake out. They also advised my cut to some of my neighbor's trees that were getting on my land which I did on my own expenses. 03/30/2021: Preconstruction meeting at the model center in West Harrison, where finalized everything in the Addendum. During that meeting they told any change made from now on will cost me $150/item. They also told me they will get the zoning and building permits in about two weeks. They also give me their blessing to close the loan with the bank on March 31. Were present at the meeting: the salesperson, the regional director, the team production superintendent, my brother in-law, and myself 03/31/2021: Close the loan with MNB after meeting with TK team production on March 30. 04/07/2021: TK salesperson texted me and said he had everything he needed to apply for zoning and building permits. 04/15/2021: I reached out for updates, he told me he already mailed the zoning application plans, and lot design, and he will do the building permit next. 04/21/2021: I reached out for updates, the salesperson told me he will call the county tomorrow for the zoning permit and will also start applying for the building permit. 04/28/2021: I reached out for updates, the salesperson told me to call the county on my own, and the permits are my responsibility. He also asked me to pay some tap fees which are already on the contract in the allowance part. Their office should cut a check and pay for that as it's on the loan already. 04/28/2021: I called the regional director and emailed the corporate office about the confusion I was getting from the salesperson. The regional director called a meeting at the model center to supposedly clear the air and redefine the expectations from both parties. 04/30/2021: Meeting at the Saint Leon model center. Were present the salesperson, regional director, my brother in-law, and myself. The regional director told me that my complaint got to corporate office and there is a big disconnect between me and them and consequently they feel they are not my builder and they won't honor the contract. I must contact the VP of Sales and Marketing at the corporate office. I called him and he told me that TK won't do business with me because I complained about the salesperson who is a valued employee for them. TK told me they will get me the permits as they stated in their website, once I confronted them, they went and updated their websites (see attachments). The contract said they can change the price after 3 months but is good for three months and should expire on June 30 .They never sent me any writing stating that my contract has expired. TK built our home 13 years ago. It was an easy and pleasant process from start to finish. It was my dream home then and still is today. Peggy, Dustin and Carl were super professional and my only regret is that I will never need another house built because they did such a good job. TERRIBLE!!! Their subcontractor dug a trench without confirming the area first, and now we have a trench to nowhere that wasn't backfilled. The septic areas weren't backfilled either, along with another trench to our barn. It's a safety issue, and I've been trying to get them to come out to fix it for over 4 months, and they keep blowing me off. They also left a big pile of dirt by the septic tanks and made US backfill a small area. They are worthless. I made a complaint with the BBB. read more

TK is definitely a builder that I would NOT recommend. I recently had an experience with them on my house which concerned construction which was not built to code. The issue was that when the roof was abutted to the brick chimney, the proper flashing was not installed, which eventually allowed the roof to leak, damaging all the plywood underneath and eventually leaking through into my living room. While my house is 13 years old, and beyond the typical 10 year warranty period, my concern lied with the fact that the house was not ORIGINALLY built to code. When I contacted THE OWNER of TK, he told me that he would not make the repair and could not believe that I had the nerve to even call him and waste his time by even requesting they repair the damage. When I pressed him regarding the fact that it wasn't built to code, he would not give me a straight answer and simply relied on the warranty and repeatedly threatened to hang up on me, despite the fact that I never once raised my voice to him. It is unfortunate that a company who has had a long tenure within my community does not care if they build something to code or not and will do whatever they find necessary to avoid taking responsibility for such action. Never once did they admit carelessness during the construction or even offer any type of remedy to the situation....not even an offer to repair at a reduced cost to me, let alone offer to make the complete repair. It is very obvious that they do not truly value their customers, offer continued customer service as they say they do, or stand by their product in the case of code violations.
