I'm giving it a bit of time to make sure the repair holds, but so far things seem fine. That said, I do have two concerns: Everything was done via text. The booking, estimate, and payment were all handled by text message. While that's certainly convenient, it also made the whole experience feel a bit impersonal. I'm not old, but I still value some human contact and connection with the company I'm hiring. The tipping prompt felt inappropriate. When I went to pay the invoice, there was an option to add a tip for the repair tech on top of the quoted price. I really dislike this practice. Restaurant servers depend on tips as part of their income; repair technicians should be paid an adequate salary by the company, without the customer being nudged to subsidize their pay. In short, I appreciate that Andy Duck Repair addressed the issue, but I hope they'll reconsider how they handle customer interaction and tipping in the future.

My washing machine stopped working, so I called or emailed at least 10 appliance repair companies. Bogart Appliance is the only company that actually called back. I spoke with Chris, who walked me through some steps over the phone and had me send him a video of what happened when I tried to use the machine. He let me know that he prefers to diagnose a problem in person, but he could tell the motor was shot and the machine not worth fixing. Anytime someone who could make money by doing a quick service call instead offers their expertise by phone to save the (new!) client money, they have earned my trust. Thank you, Bogart Appliance!

I was referred to Jose at Bogart Appliance Repair by a friend of mine who works in a kitchen…read moreappliance store. My refrigerator had broken and I was urgently looking for someone to come out and repair it. I left a voicemail for Jose and he called me back within 30-60 minutes and we scheduled for between 1-3 pm that afternoon (which was a few hours after our phone call). He told me it would cost $150-$300 depending on which parts he needed to replace. As promised, he called right before coming and arrived wearing what looked like an N95 mask equivalent, which I was appreciative of. I was able to fix my refrigerator within 30 minutes or so. It cost me $230 (he replaced the defrost heater), and that was money well spent! That price was actually 1/3 of what I had been quoted by someone else - the other company said he'd be replacing 4 different parts for $675 before even coming to see what was wrong! Thank you Jose!!! Oh, and p.s. that night, we found some water pooling around the fridge. It was 10 pm and I called Jose and left a voicemail. He texted me within minutes to tell me it was just the defrost process and to just put towels around it. I was very happy that he would check his voicemails so late at night and respond.
