NO doubt the food is good. BUT Food is over priced; but then again everything is these days; so no doubt they are jumping on the bandwagon of taking advantage of your customers by inflating their prices??? And Being Skimpy! My problem is: I got a carne asada burrito and asked for an extra hot sauce after she gave me my bag and I saw only one. The lady gave me a hard time and said I can only have one??? I told her I like a lot of hot sauce and she took my bag from me - without even asking me for it???- and took the green one out of my bag to "TRADE" for another hot sauce!!! I cannot believe they are willing to lose a loyal customer that only "Went" there for my burrito fix whenever I come back to Da Heights to visit family and friends for a half ass thing of hot sauce??????? I mean, how much could it have possibly cost for two tablespoons of hot sauce (no I did not measure it, but it is in the picture ) Well, it is a done deal. So.. when this place first opened they were really good. Ordered bistec a la Mexicana dinner last night. It was just a slab of fatty steak with a few grilled jalapeños and onions on top. If you know Mexican food.. you know that is NOT what bistec a la Mexicana is. Unacceptable. Perhaps they can pull that crap off on a normal gringo, but I know Mexican food. This is my second time here after a friend introduced me to this place a couple weeks ago. The food is very good (I've had the combination fajitas, steak tacos, & a pastor tostadas) and the service is quite friendly. I wish this place was closer to my house! I'd be here all the time. I tried steak tacos before committing, and I was hooked so much that i went to them to do went to them for catering service for my birthday fiesta. Everything we had was delicious! The tamales are only offered on the weekend, and after having them, I understand why; they probably wouldn't be able to keep up with demand because they are so darn tasty. I know everyone's taste buds are different, but let me just say this: between Tito's, Burrito Station, and Pepe's--I'll be going back to Tito's when I have a taste for Mexican takeout. I had the ground beef tostadas dinner. The ground beef was a little bit salty for my taste, and the rice and beans were so full of flavor. The shell was crispy just like I like it. My husband had the pastor burrito dinner. He ate all the beans and rice, only making it through half of the burrito. He even liked the hot and mild sauce. The name has changed to El Monte. The food and service were both excellent. We catered chicken and beef tacos with a side of rice and pico de galllo for a party. The tacos were individually wrapped and stayed fresh throughout the event. No soggy tacos! Our guest loved them. I also tried the pork tacos, which we are awesome. The food was fresh and authentic. I must say, I didn't have high hope for this place when it was recommended to me. They are a new restaurant in the area, but boy was I pleasingly surprised by the taste of their meals. We taste test many restaurants and this passed due to their tasty & freshly made guacamole dip and chips. Their tacos come basic, just meat, cilantro, onion, tomato. Everything else is extra but they are great without all the extras. The prices are quite reasonable. I highly recommend them! Food and service is pleasantly consistent. I believe those two important restaurant characteristics stem from the restaurant being family owned. I would count on El Monte Tacos for a good meal and/or for catering. My only issue is the parking lot for its size, but they make up for it by being attentive to carry out orders; Which is why I wouldn't go any lower than five stars for this restaurant. Just ordered from Tito's for the second time. I must say it was excellent! I had the steak burrito and my wife the breaded chicken torta. My burrito was stuffed with all the ingredients and it was filling as well! My wife said her torta was good as well! We also got the chips and salsa. Only thing I didn't like and this is a personal preference is the salsa. It's more like a pico de Gallo. If you want to try something different than the other Mexican restaurant nearby, check them out you'll be glad you did! read more
