Coach Jackson, best of the best, brings experience and amazing positivity

I've been going to Title for about 6 months. The facilities are clean and feel new. Staff are friendly and the owner is almost always available and welcoming. I normally take Gilbert Jackson's Saturday morning 830am 45 min class or 10:00am 1 hour class. He brings amazing energy and positivity...and decades of experience. Everybody at the class is having a great time and working really hard and super positive...everybody is happy and excited to be there.

Do I want to write this review to sing their praises and let this little ticked away spot blow up in popularity??!? Well, ya can't keep something this good to yourself! I was ecstatic to find this spot while having lunch on this block a month ago. I've been wanting to get back into boxing but ya know, that little thing called a pandemic is still with us. I've been to a few boxing gyms and I love the ease, cleanliness, class structure, positive vibes, and diversity of participants/trainers of this place. As a woman, it can be intimidating to join a boxing gym and I've been to spots that are meat markets more than gyms. Here, I feel confident I'll get a solid workout and it doesn't matter what your skill level is in boxing- there is room for you here. It's been my sanctuary; take the free trial class and you'll be hooked!

How is the parking?

Hi Eldren! The closest parking is metered parking ($2/hour) Monday through Saturday 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. We are in downtown Oakland, so please allow extra time for parking. We are also within a 5-minute walk of the 19th Street BART station.

Can you rent boxing gloves?

Hi Shannon! Yes, we rent gloves for $5. Members and guests can rent them at the front desk. We have a limited quantity of about 10 pair available.

What are the regular membership rates? I saw the promo on the storefront, but that's just for 90 days.

During that time, I gained a lot of weight and felt like I lost a big part of myself. When I tried to come back, I found that the gym where I originally started had closed due to rising rent costs. I checked out a few gyms in Oakland, but none of them had that same community vibe where people truly enjoyed Muay Thai for the art and what it represents, I didn't feel welcomed Honestly, I felt lost and thought I'd never find that feeling again. I even considered driving far just to train because I missed Muay Thai so much. That all changed when I came across Coach Jay's bio and saw that he had trained under the same coaches I had when I first started. I looked at the photos, saw the location, and instantly felt the same vibe I'd been searching for. From day one, Coach Jay was welcoming, helped me get my technique back, and I immediately felt the support from the entire team. Since rejoining, I've gone from 260lbs to 210lbs, building muscle along the way thanks to the strength and conditioning classes (something I never had access to before). On top of that, I've been training in boxing, improving and learning a lot, while of course continuing with Muay Thai. I've even competed in a PKB and plan to keep competing in the near future. For me, Muay Thai and boxing here have not only helped me get in shape but also pushed me to grow mentally, physically, and spiritually. The training is tough but motivating, and the team always makes you feel supported like family. Everyone trains hard, but there's also real camaraderie and respect. This gym has given me opportunities to challenge myself in ways I never imagined, from sharpening my technique to stepping into the ring. It's more than just a gym, it's a community that keeps you accountable and pushes you to become the best version of yourself. I'm incredibly grateful to Coach Jay and the gym for helping me return to what I love and for improving my health. I can just pop in at any time and be in and out in 30 mins. I don't need to think about what moves to do for the day. And I always leave super sweaty and accomplished. What really stands out to me about the 9round in Emeryville in particular is the owner Charise! I knew when I was first searching for workout classes that I wanted a badass woman trainer and Charise is just that! She is amazing - super friendly and motivating! Pacific Strength is truly something special…read more I am not a lifter and walked in feeling genuinely intimidated by a functional fitness gym environment. That fear disappeared almost immediately. The instructors (Jessica, Zach, Makenna, James, and others!) are kind, attentive, and incredibly good at meeting you exactly where you are -- no ego, no pressure, just thoughtful coaching and encouragement. James, the owner, is a wonderful human. He sets the tone for the entire space: supportive, inclusive, and deeply invested in people's progress and well-being. The community reflects that -- the patrons are welcoming and encouraging, and there's absolutely no judgment. I'm more of a yoga and Pilates person, but I knew I needed to incorporate strength training for long-term health. Since coming here, I've gotten noticeably stronger, improved my range of motion, developed better form, and -- most importantly -- gained confidence with weightlifting. No one cares that I lift a fraction of the weight others do. Everyone is focused on their own progress, and there's always a way to scale or modify. This is an ideal gym even if you're not looking to become an Olympic weightlifter but are looking to maintain muscle, protect bone density, move better, and feel strong -- especially for women who want functional strength without intimidation.
