The addiction is real...we decided it was time to get them involved in some type of sport. Luckily they all agreed to try Jiu Jitsu. I called two places but the other one never returned my phone call. Drove by both and the other one was so small the parents were huddled outside so yea came here and the place is not only pretty huge for Oakland but also very clean. The kids class starts at 4pm and they usually have 2 to 4 instructors per class. They split up the kids into two groups age 4-6 in one group and 7 and up in the other group. The teachers are extremely hands on and patient. They are great with the kids and seem very engaged.

I wish I didn't feel like I have to write this, but I'm at my wits end!…read more I'm starting to think this business is a scam to take your money. We signed an 8 month contract in January 2025. We tried to cancel when our contract was up August 2025, yet it took several emails, phone calls, and two months of additional charges we did not anticipate nor benefit from (my son was already enrolled in another activity) before we were finally able to close our account in October 2025. Then for some reason my credit card was charged (and for more $$$ than our original contract) in march and April 2026. I tried to contact the business, no response. I cancelled my credit card and had them reverse the charges. Member solutions emails me every couple days about my delinquent account, they say I signed a contract in march 2026 and owe all the money for it plus a cancellation fee. I absolutely did not sign a contract, and I keep asking to see said contract. I have been REPEATEDLY emailing and calling Six Blades - I have never received a response. The third party billing company is now threatening to send me to collections. This has been ridiculous, and I've spent way too many hours devoted to this! I truly can't believe this is how a business operates. Someone made a clerical error somewhere and now I'm paying the price and getting no response or support. Very frustrated to say the least.

Before they opened up shop in Emeryville, they used to travel from Fresno to San Jose to coach the kids class at LUTE. Their dedication to being there for the kids is what really stood out. Mineiro's style of coaching and disciplining a bunch of 4-7 year olds is pretty impressive. I've seen complete chaos at other academies, with kids not following simple instructions. But not Mineiro! He has always been firm and wasted no time. It was always "Keep Quiet and Pay Attention!" Some parents might think it's a little too direct, but it's exactly what every kid needs to hear. Mineiro always encourages the kids in class to try out the local competitions. It's always a you'll never know if they'll like it unless you try situation. In reality, it helps them build up the self confidence and teaches them to train harder win or lose. When the news came that they were moving to Emeryville to open up their 1st location our kids were so bummed. There's a special bond that sticks with them as well as us parents. You realize the kids become smaller versions of their coaches. Good news is we were always traveling north, so we made it a point to drop by every chance we could. Til' this day we still visit Mineiro once a month on a Saturday morning. When you step into the room you can see how much pride, and hard work was put into this place. The competition banners are starting to fill the walls, and when you watch how they train you know why they took home the 2024 JJWL 1st Place Academy Champion Banner. Potentially going for a back to back win this weekend. Seeing the growth on social media these past months, I wouldn't be surprised if they moved into a bigger space. If you're in the area looking for a reputable and well respected Professor, then you and your kids are in good hands. You'll also get a chance to meet the CEO Harley! Thank you Mineiro and Liz for pushing our kids to be the best versions of themselves. Nothing but love and respect to the both of you!

When I finally did, I was greeted with one of the most welcoming and friendly gym environments! Alex and Kyle have been very kind and helpful with answering my questions since the first day I walked in. The intro class was great and I didn't feel embarrassed at all for being a complete beginner- they teach the basics, have gear to borrow, and make the whole process trying it out very smooth and chill. Since then I have been going to the Muay Thai classes as much as I can. PRS has some of the best coaches, who are legends- so you absolutely get the bang for your buck! Coach Rob and Coach Six have been great coaches, and patient with me as a beginner. I asked for any and all tips, advice, and coaching during class and if they ever see me practicing outside of class, and they've helped me out a ton! I am very bad at hand eye coordination, but with patience and practice I get better every day. Coach Michael and Coach Shallon have been extremely helpful with learning sparring techniques on Wednesdays and more about the gym as well! All the coaches for Muay Thai are great and friendly! I recently been getting into some of the Boxing and jujitsu classes as well and had the same experience- passionate, motivating, and great coaches. Coach Mark teaches the Boxing class and has awesome boxing and strength and conditioning workouts, its very motivating and make me determined to get better. Coach Alex teaches Jujitsu, and has taught me a lot about the sport- its very technical, but he is a patient and motivating coach as well, and has given me great advice and made the sport more digestible to understand as a beginner! As I get more fit, Im hoping to add in more of these classes as well:)! Not only do the coaches help me improve as an athlete, but many of the fellow athletes are kind and welcoming to beginners as well- I usually ask for any tips or comment on my tech and get good helpful feedback. They have gloves, pads, shin guards and head gear available to borrow and use, and keep all their equipment sanitized and clean- including the training floor after each class. There are plenty of bags to train on, including some by the mirrors to watch your tech. They got everything you need in a gym, including an erg, assault bike, plenty of stationary bikes, and treadmills, dumbbells, kettle bells, benches, plates and bars, jump ropes, medicine balls, and rollers for recovery. Theres plenty of space to store your things and its safe to as well, as the locker area is in the back of the gym. They have clean mens and womens bathrooms and shower for after training. They got a really awesome ring and punching bags- basically combat sport heaven is PRS. The gym community is very friendly, welcoming, diverse, and accepting of all backgrounds. Ive met so many great friends so far :)! As a LGBTQ+ individual and woman, I feel safe and accepted at this gym :) 10/10 sanitation/cleanness 10/10 equipment 10/10 Coaching and trainers 10/10 environment, safety, and community 10/10 classes

Despite the name of the place, you shouldn't think of it as only an MMA gym. They cater to a wide variety of people and I LOVE that. It's clear that the owner, Nick cares about his gym. I've gone to a number of gyms over the years and tried personal training a few times. The owner, Nick is extremely knowledgable, and he's the first trainer I've worked with who actually keeps my goals and my fitness level in mind on an ongoing basis. I have been working of mental and physical goals and Nick has helped me achieve a lot of those. If you want a gym that you can feel comfortable in and feel like home -- look no further!

Coach Nick, an Oakland resident, is strict but kind, and conducts the class in a calm manner. It's strictly a gym that conducts mma classes, not a weird "yes sensei!" dojo situation that I was afraid it would be. It's been really good for my son, learning discipline and hard work in what he calls a "very friendly environment." No "sweep the knee" situation here.
