As a woman, finding a…read moretrustworthy car shop has always felt like a nightmare--you never know how you'll be treated or if someone will try to take advantage. From the very first visit, everyone at Ray's made me feel welcomed, respected, and valued. Katie at the front desk is such a breath of fresh air. She's incredibly kind, transparent, and upfront about everything she knows. She never tries to upsell or pressure customers into unnecessary work, which is so rare in this industry. Her honesty alone gave me confidence that I was in the right place. I originally came in with my 2017 Mercedes AMG after becoming completely frustrated with the regular Mercedes dealership. Their outrageous quotes and unnecessary suggestions made it clear that their only priority was money, not the customer. After doing a ton of research, I decided to take a chance on Ray's--even though it meant driving all the way from Bloomington, MN--and I am so glad I did! Ray himself is one of the most genuine and meticulous mechanics I've ever met. He was honest with me about what needed to be done, careful with my car as if it were his own, and never once made me feel pressured. The entire experience was so positive that I immediately started recommending Ray's Car Shop to everyone I know. Now, I don't just bring my Mercedes here--I also trust Ray and his team with my Toyota. That says a lot, because once you find a shop this reliable and sincere, you stick with them for life. I can't thank Ray and his team enough for their honesty, professionalism, and the peace of mind they've given me. If you're looking for a car shop that truly cares about you and your vehicle, Ray's is the place to go!

I've been his customer for a number of years, and every job he's done on my truck has been top notch. I have a story to emphasize his honesty. I recently had a few "nagging issues" that I asked him to estimate for me. One of the issues, a loss of fluid problem, was initially estimated well north of a $1,500 dollars to fix. The truck has over 300,000 miles on the clock, so you sort of expect those things, but this one was "one I could live with", so I deferred that repair until my budget would allow. Meanwhile Ray had the truck for another issue "in the vicinity" of that loss of fluid problem. Contrary to his original diagnosis, his other work around that problem area uncovered a hidden loosened tubing connector. A couple of wrench turns (free gratis), and we're able to discard that expensive estimate. I've been in shops before where I might have never been informed of that discovery, and would have paid for the original estimate.

Re-review. I can do…read morebasic auto work. But it's not always easy. I don't have a car lift. I don't have specialty tools and have to borrow or head to O'Reilly Auto Parts (did you know O'Reilly's has a tool rental program? To rent tools from your local O'Reilly Auto Parts, simply purchase the auto parts you need and put down a deposit on the rental tool. Return the rental tool in its original condition and receive a full refund when you bring it back.) Regardless, Skip's has been my go-to for auto work. Sometimes I don't have the time (or focus or room) or I'm in over my head. They will suss out the problem and do the work at a competitive (it used to be *too* low) shop rate. Apparently it's a different company now. I brought my car in to replace a purge valve. It's a busy time of year for a lot of us, and I was willing to pay to get it done. I walked in and explained the issue. They asked for a diagnostic fee. I had a flashback to my local auto repair shop where I had an ignition coil out and it wound up costing $1,800 total for a 15-minute, top-of-the-motor, single-bolt, $75-dollar-part coil replacement. Which I have done twice since with a ratchet and a $75 coil. I left and changed the purge valve myself. 30 minute, top-of-the-motor, single-10mm-bolt replacement of a $55 part. And now I'm back on the road. I'll stop back, but I'm not so sure I like the way things are going.

This business has now been purchased by Golden Valkey Tire. I brought my personal vehicle here right after the transition, before I realized what was different. I had a fine experience and got quoted slightly above competitors for some repairs. The experience was reasonable overall, although I did feel like everyone behind the front desk was really judging me for not wanting to proceed with some repair options that I were presented to me. I came back a few weeks later with company vehicles since my employer had used this place in the past, and the vibe had deteriorated so much more. This truly is a Golden Valley Tire owned operation and it's not good. Things went wrong from the scheduling of the appointment. The person on the other end of the line was completely fumbling through the system and muttering to himself. He couldn't figure out how to get things to save even. Of course he didn't tell me that though, so when I showed up there was no appointment. I gave them the simple instruction to give the vehicle an oil change so that it would be ready to pick up later. They emailed me a full inspection report which was thorough and detailed, but guess what? They didn't do the oil change. I guess they wanted some sort of approval, but it was a busy work day and if I tell them it's the only reason for my visit I expect it to get done and the vehicle to be ready when I come to pick it up. This place is a mess right now. I hope they can find a way to improve, I understand transitions can be hard, but...proceed with caution if you're considering being a customer here.

I am not going back there again. While I like the guys there, they gouge my wallet big time. I went in for a noise in the front end. I needed wiper blades and wanted them to check why my turbo gauge was not working, the mirror and rear defrosters were not working well, and my intermittent wipers did not work "intermittently". I also had a TPMS sensor failure on the left rear, which I knew about but never mentioned until they called and told me. I already knew, so no need for a replacement, as I plan to get new tires in the summer with new sensors. So for each one of those things, they wanted a $160 diagnosis fee at the end. 5 diagnostic fees totaling over $ 700. WHAT?! After my surprise and anger, they cut the diagnosis fees to 1/2 hour each and removed the TPMS sensor one. Woot Woot! I ended up with a total or $330 in diagnosis fees. Still too much as I knew about all of these things and they needed NO diagnosis, except maybe the wipers and Turbo Gauge. However, the gauge was working and evidenced by them starting the truck and revving it up. Must have been the -21 degrees that caused it that day. But $80 for that. The wiper intermittency was a setting on the dash for a rain sensor. I must have changed it at some point not knowing. $80? Brake inspections and front suspension inspections are usually free. I used to manage and work at Firestone and Tires Plus auto centers. Another $80? The used a Thermal camera to check defrosters. Mirrors were working and rear was 1/2 working. Cold weather again? No quotes or repairs, just $80 again. I guess they actually did something here. OK. I had told them the noise (humming) was likely a Caliper sticking. It was. They said both were sticking. Not likely, but possible. They were not very old. You should always do brakes and other things in the front end in pairs. They could have just said that, and I would have agreed. Brake jobs in my experience were about $500 per axel, which did not include calipers. I am sure more like $600 now. Calipers will add about $300 for the pair. Yeah, I am thinking $800. Nope $1300! They also did a brake fluid exchange instead of just bleeding the new calipers and adding a few ounces of fluid. $215.00, which is already part of the 1300. This normally would mean exchanging all fluid in all lines and all calipers, including the master cylinder. NOPE. rears were not touched. So I am guessing a manual bleed and an ounce or 2 of fluid. Not very happy VIP customer here. I would have paid $1100 for all this, but Not $1724..56! So, in my mind, it should have been about $1000 for the brake job in total, $30 for Wiper Blades (they charged me $47 - OK I guess), and maybe a total 0f $80 for inspections/diagnosis. Maybe $100. Labor of $857, Parts of $758, plus a $38.20 Shop Supplies fee (kind of a standard, but $38 - really, guys?) - add taxes and you get the $1724. This is about a 4-hour job in my mind. been around this stuff all my life. $210/hour labor? I know the parts were under $400, their cost as well. Likely $300. I did approve a $1300 quote over the phone. WOW. 1724? Be careful guys. Very pricy here and Honest should not be in their name.

Not a chance I wasn't letting them do anything anyways. And he made up some bullshit at the desk so I got stuck paying $85 for a f*cking oil change.... Literally go anywhere else if that's all you need. Don't recommend at all.

I called them 2 day a later and…read moresaid it's dropping coolant still I was informed there were still air bubbles in the coolant. I couldn't afford the huge jobs they said I needed. I had another mechanic look at it and there were hose clamps that were not even finger tight and a cracked "Y" connector for those hoses which have everything to do with coolant. I just went to speak to them and now they say they pressure tested it and there was no air in the system . They kept switching the story what they did and didn't do. The actual mechanic said that Y piece cracked because of overheating. Well it has not overheated since before I got the radiator. They treated me as if I was stupid or lying. I'm assuming because I have breasts.. They basically were calling me a liar. Why would I take the time and energy 2 months later for a 200$ fix? If I didn't KNOW they had missed something important. They gave me so many excuses and stories and made it seem like I was trying to sw indie money from them . If you're a woman....do not deal with this shop because they'll try to get you to spend as much as.possible and they'll do a half ass job. THEY ARE NOT ABOUT THE CUSTOMER . All I wanted was for them to take responsibility for those loose hose clamps and for letting me drive out of there with a cracked 20$ part. Don't even want the 200 it cost me to have it put in by someone doing it as a side gig.. Customer service is terrible and I will never take a vehicle there again! $1300 I spent and I , again.
