Like a lot of people who've left reviews here, we encountered the Tire Cobbler while driving down I-5 from Seattle. By sheer dumb luck we stayed at the Marriott across the street from the shop. My cousin and I had noticed my front driver's side tire looked low on one of our stops for gas prior to hitting Redding, and being concerned that I had a leak we opted to get it checked out before we moved on.
Shane and the guys were so kind and helpful - they let us come in the shop area because they couldn't find a leak in the tire we were worried about (must have just been weirdly a little lower than my other tires), but they did notice that all of my tires were dangerously bald, particularly the rear two. Much as I didn't want to spring for all new tires in the middle of a road trip, it was really nice to deal with people who checked over my car with a sense of care and attention to detail that's usually lacking with dealerships. I always feel like the work I have done on my car is kept so opaque that I just have to smile and nod and cough up the money. Shane and the guys were happy to show us the first tire in the dunk tank and then the rest of the tires while my car was lifted. I could feel the lack of tread when Shane pointed it out - not because I had any reason to think they'd lie to me about it, but because it was helpful to be able to see the problem myself so I can (hopefully) recognize it in the future if I need to.
I'll admit what I know about cars could probably be written in complete sentences on an index card without running out of room, but I'm not stupid. It was a genuinely nice experience to be able to just have a conversation with the professionals and be treated like a reasonable human being who could understand a problem and make my own decision based off the given information. They had appropriate tires for my Civic in the shop, and once I pulled the trigger on replacing the set we were back on the road within 30 minutes. Whether you're a local or if you ever just find yourself in Redding and need help, absolutely try the Tire Cobbler first. Shane and co are good people and I'd be happy to visit them again if I'm ever in the area. read more
