You will find other reviews of Zeller under "Tire Associates," which is not incorrect. But they're sign out front and everyone who uses them calls this business "Zeller Tire." So while we're getting credit for being the first to review, it ain't so. We're just apparently the first one to do so using the most familiar name. Got that? So, we're actually updating what we wrote a few years ago (2017, we believe). The guys who run this place are good guys. We've found them to be consistently honest, fair and up front in their dealings. For instance: we just had some tire issues on a 20-year old. car that needed some new tires. We talked it over nd agreed we shouldn't get expensive tourers, and that was Zeller's recommendation. They charged us fairly, did the job quickly, and were a pleasure to deal with in every way. We have friends who been going here for 20 years, and they echo the same praise: this is an honest business establishment that, while not without making mistakes at times, is nonetheless a good place to do business. read more

They've done a few oil changes for me, as well as my back brakes, and I've been very happy with their work. A little more expensive than the big box places, and a little harder to get an immediate appointment because they're often booked out a few days to a week, but it's worth the wait. read more

I stopped by here last winter to price check their tires out after reading such great reviews on here. I was told by the older blonde haired woman not to waste her time. When I asked why my wanting to purchase something from her was a waste of her time, she backtracked and tried to explain something about me being "just a kid" (I'm 38) and that I was "not taking it seriously". After repeating my request for the prices on the tires, she printed out their webpage and literally threw (well, as good as one can throw a paper) it in my direction. After I asked her what was with the terrible customer service, she attempted to backtrack again and said she dropped the paper and was very busy. No apology, however. I work two jobs and take saving money seriously, which is why I took my business and money to another local tire place. My company in Torrington had a fleet of company cars and was looking for a local business for regular service; after I told them about my experience they also chose another company. Not sure what was with the rude attitude, but being rude to this "kid" cost you quite a bit. read more

This is a really good tire shop. Just purchased a set of ultra high performance (UHP) all-season tires for my brand new 2020 FORD Mustang Bullitt (5.0 liter V-8, 480 hp, manual transmission!). Think of this Mustang as a "sleeper" Shelby GT350 with a much nicer ride. They swapped out (and bagged for me) - the OEM set of summer Michelin Pilot Sport 4s. Special thanks to Greg Fabre who worked hard to find me the right tires for my needs. He really went the extra mile. Lots of research which pointed to the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 tires. Now 2 days later and almost 200 miles on them - I am loving them! Spot on call Greg. The staff were super friendly, helpful and very efficient. And the price was excellent. Will be back for sure. I've known about Zeller's for years but always sought out cheaper tire shops. Well, you get what you pay for. I brought my wife's Rogue to Zeller's and had four new Goodyears mounted and balanced, as well as an oil change service. David was very accommodating, offering me a number of choices. They took our car right in and did the oil change and tires while I went to grab a bite to eat. About an hour later I received a phone call letting me know I was good to go. I was very pleased with the quick service, knowledgeable employees and great "better than chain stores" prices. You've got a customer for life. read more

I have been used to a lot of "up charges" when getting tires at big box stores. This is not the case at Zeller. David and the extremely trustworthy folks at Zeller took such good care of me with my wife's vehicle and came in with a great price without any extra charges that I brought my son's car in to have his tires replaced as well. Went in for pot hole special. Was to have a mechanic check out the suspension and brake system, and after, align and balance it. First, a mechanic didn't inspect anything, it was the tire changer man. Second, when balancing the tires (which were priorly balanced) the tire changer should of alerted me that two of the rims were bent. Should be able to tell while balancing them, not by many test drives and finally just swapping the fronts to the rears. Third, when the wheel alignment guy went to start the car, I noticed black smoke coming from the tail pipe. Why would this be? It means he pumped the gas before starting it. Why? It was flooded. Does he not know how to start a car? IN the future, I will just go to Town Fair for alignment and balancing. There i get a copy of the alignment, which I like. read more

I'm hoping the owners actually check yelp: I am very satisfied with the nailectomy you performed on my tire. Nail is gone, tire is not flat, only took 45 min and $16- All very good things. HOWEVER I chose your businesss, rather than Town Fair (a block away) because you are family owned, and I like to throw whatever business I can to the "the non-chainers". Usually, the independent biz's are more customer friendly. I walked into your place, with a squirmy 3yr old girl, and there were at least 4-5 employees behind the counter. 1 emp was on the phone, right in front of me, one emp was helping a customer already. That being said, it took almost 5 full minutes (no exaggeration) to even get a greeting. Come on, I'm not a high maintenance gal, I don't need much, but I honestly was a few seconds away from walking out and having Town Fair fix the damn tire. I'm standing there with an obviously "ants in her pants" kid, I'm trying to keep her calm and close to me so I don't "lose my place in line" (I'm the only one in line), and you can't even give me a quick "We'll be right with you ma'am"? Do you realize how long 5 minutes is in "mom with toddler and no stroller" time? No head nod, no smile, I would have even taken a finger in the air, but I got nothing. And, to top it all off, (after David distractedly took my info and told me how long it would be) PICTURE THIS: customer and David are walking out the door, I am RIGHT behind them HOLDING MY 3 YR OLD'S HAND, and he doesn't even hold the door for me! Not even a "let me keep this open for a few seconds more" like most people do for total strangers! I'm didn't need him to do the whole "ladies first" thing, I was fine with he and the other guy going first, but he just blew thru the door. Manners, people. Common courtesy, folks. Good ole' fashioned customer service. I understand that it's hard to find those things at megastores, but if you can't even offer that at your family owned business, in this economy, why would I bother with you? I have a 100,000 mile tune up I need to have done, as well as a blown a/c, and a tire rotation. I was anxious about finding a shop because I don't have any experience with places out here (just moved here last year). You crossed yourselves off the list of possible places I'll take the car because of your customer service. You basically charged me $16 to show me I shouldn't spend a big chunk of change there. read more

I've used Zeller each time I've needed new tires and they've always done a great job. I try to go in early to avoid the waits, but sometimes I will leave my car for a few hours and pick it up later. I took my jeep to Zeller Tire after a Jeep dealership wanted a fortune to repair it. Zeller was able to do the repairs at a much lower price and was honest about what actually needed to be repaired. It was definitely comforting to find a shop that was more interested in doing right by the customer, which can sometimes be rare in the auto industry. read more

I had my Durango towed to Zeller Tire after it had acted as if the battery was dead. I was informed the next day that the engine was seized ! Engine's don't generally seize if they're not running ! I told them that there was a weak point in the fact that water can get past the windshield valance on this particular model and that I thought the engine may be "hydro locked " ! This is when water gets into the combustion chamber creating a lock. My Durango also has a weak point in the intake manifold gasket. They were unreceptive to my thoughts saying "my 40 year mechanic knows what he is doing !" Well I had my car towed to a friends garage and 2 hours later my car was running perfectly after we pulled the spark plugs and got the water out ! I told Zellers garage manager that I would pay them just to pull the plugs and see if I was right, I got no where !! What if I had been someone that absolutely relied on my only vehicle and had absolutely no means to get another one and Zellers diagnosis had convinced me to scrap my car for no reason ? How many other false diagnosis have Zeller given and destroyed people's lives ? This fix was a simple fix and I discovered the problem by googling it !! Zellers arrogance was on full display, their credibility is shot to hell !! Plus they told me that my battery was dead, it's not, if anything it's as strong as ever !! Zeller has lost my business , be careful when dealing with this garage !! read more

I have over the past 15 years purchased tires from Zeller. Today I showed up at 7:50 AM to have a rim changed. It took almost two hours they served people who came in after me first. The new counter help is not as carefully to make sure people get served in order. Their policy is first come first served, maybe they should tell their workers. Fantastic experience twice in a row. Guys behind the counter were very attentive, greeted me immediately and were more than willing to get right into what I needed done. I didn't expect to have everything done within the same day. The wait was pleasant, and the employees were nothing but helpful to anyone that wandered in, got me in immediately and out within an hour, as opposed to my normal mechanic that takes a day or two and needs appointments. Had a flat on my way to vacation. AAA put on the spare. Then on the way home I had a problem with the spare I was using. As the car was shaking and Torrington is an hour from my home, I had to stop. I was stressed and upset. They fixed the first tire, put it back on, sold me a spare and even put my bike rack back on all in the course of an hour. Thanks!! Let me give you the REAL side of Zeller Tire! I brought my vehicle in to be serviced because I was hearing a rubbing noise in my left front tire. I dropped it off at Zeller to have a look. My dad had been doing business with the owner, Dave, a few times so I decided to try them. Since they would be putting the vehicle on the lift anyway, I decided to buy new tires from them as well. I tried to negotiate a fair price for the tires I wanted as they price they quoted me there was too high. I said since you are going to be working on my vehicle anyway, why don't you match the price I already got? The technician looked at my estimate and reluctantly agreed. Later that day I get a phone call from this technician saying that not one, but both front wheel bearings needed to be replaced. The price was almost $1500! Then he said, we are willing to do the second one for half price to lower the bill. Since two wheel bearings rarely go at the same time I was skeptical, but thought maybe it was possible, so let them do it. After paying the very exorbitant fee for the job and the tires I got the truck back. The next morning I was driving to work and the brakes went all the way to the floor! I raced back to Zeller and spoke to the owner directly. After a further inspection, he called me and said that the Master Cylinder was gone! I said so it's just a coincidence that it happened to go when you were doing this job? I explained that just a few weeks before, I had new brakes put in and there was nothing wrong with it at that time so I had to attribute this to something that happened at Zeller's. After calling the dealer where I bought the vehicle they said that it would be a rare instance if that happened and it sounded like a brake line was clipped installing the wheel bearings. After some conversation back and forth they agreed to fix it for "free." I had no idea what I was getting myself into now! They called me and told me the brakes were now fine and I got the vehicle back again. A few days later, I had it parked in the driveway and I went to leave and the wheels were locked up on me. It took a significant amount of jockeying back and forth to release them. I took the vehicle back to Zeller once again and they said they could not decipher the problem but it was not caused by them! I was really steamed about this now and the owner said it could be brake dust build-up that caused it so he said they cleaned it. About a week went by and it happened again. No one could figure out what was wrong, no matter who I brought it to. The brakes finally locked up again and this time they did not unlock, so I had to have the vehicle towed to a repair shop. I was told both brake cables were gone and would cost over $700 to replace. When I spoke to my dad about this entire thing, he had said that they tried to tell him his Master cylinder was in need of replacement some years before also. He never replaced it to this day! BOTTOM LINE: These people and especially the owner are shysters and by all means steer clear of them at all costs! Over $2,500 later I finally got my vehicle back to normal...I THINK! While I cannot prove they tapered with my brake cables, the math would indicate that it is highly probable! read more

Do not, I repeat, do not spend your hard earned money at this place. I did not see or hear the angry and unprofessional attitudes from them as other reviews stated, but my wife did days after I went there. They seem to have contempt for the customer and my experience with them was nothing but ridiculous. I bought four tires from them that were on the expensive side, and they had no idea how to balance them correctly, gee I thought they were tire experts! I had to go back 2-times *after* they installed them hoping they could fix the shuddering I was getting in the steering wheel, I never had shuddering before on this car. After the second try two of the guys said they had no idea why it was shuddering and another one tells me it's probably one of my front rotors, no Einstein it does not shudder when hitting the breaks and it never shuddered before, his reply was, oh yay that's right. I felt like telling them, "Shouldn't you guys be wearing helmets or something?" Went to Town Fair Tire in Avon the next day and it was fixed in 25-minutes. The guys at Town Fair told me: "Whoever balanced these tires does not know what they are doing". They also gave me a bunch of info on tire balancing in general and for these specific tires, not exactly rocket science. All I got from Zeller were blank stares and "I dunno". Albeit Zeller did not charge me for the two additional visits I made in an attempt to fix the shuddering, it was all in vain since they could not fix it. I'm just glad they did not break something on the car. After wasting 15-hours of my time with these incompetent idiots and an additional $67 at Town Fair, I could not recommend more to stay away from this place. read more

This place sold me the worst set of tires I've ever owned. A couple winters ago I purchased 4 snow tires from Zeller. I'd been to Zeller before and had been satisfied with their service (I may have even previously purchased tires from them; I can't remember). I wanted snow tires because I work in Hartford, which translates to 2 hours of driving, 5 days a week. In the winter with bad weather, I want to make sure I'm safe (I drive a Honda Civic, so a small car, not AWD). I paid over $100/tire (I think the total was about $425). The brand name was "Arctic Claw". Soon after that I began experiencing horrible traction, my car was all over the place in the snow and got stuck a couple times spinning my wheels. Even in the rain, I could not seem to gain any traction; even from a stop on a flat road, my wheels would spin when I would try to start going again, if any moisture was on the road. Oddly enough, I hadn't had this problem with my previous all-weather tires. I thought snow tires were supposed to give you better traction. I went thru 2 winters with these tires on my car and mentioned this to a couple of car experts who told me that maybe I was trying to take off too quickly or something. I said I didn't think so because I am a very safe driver and couldn't remember having these problems before these tires were put on. Finally this winter I went to Toce Brothers and purchased 4 brand new all-weather tires. I went thru this entire winter driving on these tires and haven't had the spinning wheels/no traction problem once. So now I know it was the tires. I did not experience the poor customer service problems that others have mentioned at Zeller, but will not be returning due to the fact that they are supposed to be "tire experts" and charged me a lot of $ for the worst set of tires I've ever had. read more
