Overpriced. Went in for a pedicure. I felt it was a rushed and unprofessional job. The young woman was friendly and chatty but was mor concerned with her freshly painted nails than my comfort. The dogs kept jumping all over me, I like dogs but but It wasnt very relaxing. She kept on scatching and rubbing her dog and them going back to my pedicure I was kinda grossed out. I have never had such a horrible experience with a nail salon. Not only were my cuticles and nail beds sore for days afterward, but the nails that I have spent the last two months growing out (a goal of mine by the end of 2016) were completely ruined. I went in to have SNS put on, after calling and asking whether they knew how to do so, and it was clear within an half hour of being there that they hadn't had much experience with the product. I chose to give them the benefit of the doubt, and unfortunately it came back to bite me. Raney soaked off the SNS that was on my nails by having me steep my fingers in acetone for over a half hour, then liberally using a drill, file, and buffer to scrape off the rest. I was wincing throughout this experience, but she didn't really let up, resulting in my fingers having scabs on them around my nails throughout the next few days. Despite professing to have colored powder SNS, they really only had the "natural" filling, leaving me with having to paint over top the SNS after it's application. On top of that the SNS wasn't allowed to dry properly, leading to my nails being tacky for up to 4 hours after the visit. I ended up getting acetone and removing the polish and SNS, resulting in my nails being dry and brittle. While Raney & Patti seemed very nice, the service they performed was lackluster, and ended with all my natural nails breaking off. I requested my money back (which was ridiculously expensive to begin with) and got a full refund. Overall, the experience was lacking in professionalism (Patti's son came in the salon a few minutes into our visit and spent the entire visit making jokes about his last night of drinking) and clearly in the know-how necessary to properly use the product. A certification wasn't clearly visible for Raney, so I'm unsure about her licensing. They should take a tip from the sign hanging behind Patti's table - be certain your technician is certified and knowledgeable, and a good salon should never leave their clients in pain! read more

Terrible, overpriced pedicure. There are no pedicure chairs (I was told they aren't sanitary, but I personally did not feel they were overly concerned with sanitation at this place...). The wicker chair setup is uncomfortable; I wasn't offered a towel to put over my lap (I was wearing a dress) even though the young girl doing my nails insisted I put BOTH feet up in the air at the same time. Very strange and awkward. The polish job was horrible. I could have done a better job myself, with one eye closed. It took her about 10 seconds to paint all 10 toes, it was a very shoddy, rushed job and she used a brush to clean up the edges afterward. Several of my toenails weren't fully painted, and I had to ask her to fix them. She even smudged my nail at the end of my pedicure rushing to empty the very odd foot whirlpool basin, and didn't even notice. I had to ask her to fix it. I would not return and do not recommend this place. I paid almost twice what I pay for a professional, hot stone pedicure in Rittenhouse Square (Philly) and received a very poor quality pedicure. The service I received was maybe worth $20, at most, not $50. The salon itself is clean, brightly colored and inviting, the staff was friendly, and they were able to accommodate me as a walk-in, but I was very disappointed and frankly left feeling like I'd been ripped off. The young girl doing nails clearly has no training at all, and I think the salon needs to take the time to teach her how to provide a professional pedicure before charging customers. read more

Had my nails done 1/14 or 1/15, it is now 1/27, they still look like they were just done! I swim, and go in the hot tub several times a week, and am constantly washing dishes, yet my nails still look awesome! I go to Sanibel several times a year, have tried quite a few nail salons, this one is the best for manicures! Friendly, efficient, affordable, and a great job. What more could you ask for? read more

If I could give Tips and Toez a negative star, I would. I have numerous points to justify this. This is by far the most unprofessional nail salon I have been a client at. 1. For starters, she (Pattee) talks about her clients' personal lives after they leave. Pattee told me very personal information about 2 of her clients that were there at the same time I was. One client Pattee talked about after she left- she discussed with me that clients' passing of her husband and puppy, and her struggles. Next, she discussed the other clients' wealthy family and all their vacation homes. In addition to the unprofessionalism- Pattee began telling me about all her health issues. Lastly, the cherry on top of the unprofessionalism cake was her cursing. I was absolutely shocked at the profanity I heard while I was there for over 3 hours getting a basic mani/pedi. 2. Prices are not documented or listed anywhere in the salon. I had a basic pedicure and manicure (with regular polish) and it was $100. I was shocked. She charged me $50 for a mani with regular polish. However, the client right before me did the dip powder and mani- that also costs $50. I don't see how dip powder and a regular mani are the same price when dip is a lot more time consuming. 3. She doesn't have professional equipment in order to do her job. Also, she had the oddest techniques I have ever seen. While receiving my pedicure, I sat in an outdoor furniture chair that was inside the salon. The pedicure basin was a cheap bin she bought at Best Buy. She bragged about the deal she got on it- she got what she paid for. It was cheap for her and is cheap for her clients. She charges $50 for pedicures. In addition, I have NEVER seen anyone file nails the way she did. She used things that looked like garden shears to cut my toe nails completely down. She didn't even ask about length or shape when filing and cutting my nails down. In addition, she left some nails round and others square. I had to ask her to make them all the same shape! To further comment on her technique- I observed her do the dip powder on the client in front of me. It was painful to watch. Pattee made 4-5 cuticles bleed on this client and would turn their hand away so the client couldn't see it. I was absolutely shocked! At this point, I changed my mind from doing dip powder to having her do a simple manicure with regular polish. She has no idea what she's doing. I have never left such a horrific review and I hate to do so. However, I'm sincerely trying to spare you from Pattee's unprofessionalism and poor technique. I'd advise taking your business elsewhere where you and your time are respected! read more

I went here on a vacation to get my nails re done so I could have them for the rest of my time on Sanibel. I had acrylic on my nails so the Pat had to remove that before she started to do just a regular gel manicure. I asked for a simple white color and it started off okay, but after the second coat, things started to go downhill, once I was done, I looked at my nails and around the cuticle there was paint all over, and it had already dried. the bottom of my actual nail was not clean it was very messy looking and the price for this horrible job was $60. I do not recommend this place!!! read more

Very nice ladies, but the worst gel manicure I've ever had. And the most expensive, even with consideration given for island pricing. She used a dremel to remove old gel manicure which weakened the nails. Within a day, 2 nails tore off, and now there are these bubbles on the edge of another nail. What a cute place and fun and friendly staff. Pattee consistently does an excellent job on my nails. It never fails, the minute I leave the shop someone always comments on how pretty my nails are. One time I was not able to make it in to the shop for my appointment because I was under the weather. She not only refused to cancel my appointment. But she came to my home and did them ( Great job). Had a great manicure by Patty at Tips and Toez today. I have a silk wrap on my nails and not many do them, but Patty was able to accommodate me on the same day, fix a broken nail, do a silk fill and gave me an exceptional French manicure. I highly recommend this shop on Sanibel Island! read more

Worst manicure of my life. I had to consistently remind her to do the proper steps in a manicure. She never gave any attention to my cuticles or skin around my nails. She didn't even know how to file them straight. I had to ask her to go back to fix them multiple times. She then painted my entire finger the scraped the excess color off my finger. When she was done there was missing spots, uneven coloring, and holes where the color did not reach. I asked her to fix it a couple time but it was excessive. She did not properly know how to finish the gel polish as I walked out of there with still sticky nails. The next day my nails have a chip in them and are no where near shiny. This place is way too expensive for the awful service I received. I contacted the owner to let her know and give her the opportunity to make it right; my phone call was never returned. If you want a Shellac (gel) manicure, do NOT go here. I feel terrible giving such a poor review because both the owner and the woman who did my nails were so friendly. But the truth is that I wasted my money. First of all, the prices are steep. I paid $30 for an "express" pedicure, which didn't even include scrubbing my heels. On top of that, I paid $45 for the manicure, which included a $10 fee for soaking off the gel polish that I already had on my nails. I swallowed it because the salon is on an island and really, everything is more expensive. But I absolutely did not get my money's worth. Second, and more importantly, the Shellac chipped off of two of my nails after a mere TWO DAYS! A gel manicure is supposed to last two WEEKS! It has now been six days and two more nails are chipping and another one broke. :( I visit Sanibel Island every year but I won't be revisiting this place. read more

I went for a Shellac manicure on 12/23. I selected this place because of the mostly good reviews up to oct. 2015. Now I see all the negative reviews from the past few days and I can only agree. The young woman who did my nails was very sweet, but she needs to learn how to paint nails correctly. She didn't cover the entire nail. The painted edge near my cuticles were very irregular. I had to ask her several times to paint the sides of the nails to the edge. She applied the top coat unevenly so my nails are partially shiny. I think part of the problem was that the polish was too thick. She thinned it and assured me it would not be an issue, but in hindsight it probably made it worse. The positives about this place were that it was bright and clean, and staff was friendly. She was gentle with my cuticles, didn't hurt. Prices are fairly high, but it's a vacation spot. The price is way too high for what I received. I'll start with the positive. The woman who did my nails was a lovely young lady and very kind. The manicure was pretty good, and held up for longer than I expected. However I was not happy with the pedicure. She did a terrible job of cleaning up stray swipes of nail polish on the skin around my toenails. She had a big, sloppy brush she used with the nail polish remover on the edges; she needs to use a stiff, smaller one to really get the edges. The bottom line is this: I have lived in Boston and Miami and been given mani/pedi's for HALF the amount I paid here AND received a much better product along with a more comfortable experience. And if someone tells me that this place charges more because they are in a big vacation spot, that makes me sick. As I said before, if they are going to charge this high, for whatever reason, they need to do a better job!!! For this price I prefer a real pedicure chair over the wicker chair and a high-quality job on my nails - no mess around the edges. read more

Was in the salon to get my toes done and was surprised at the total lack of professionalism shown by the technician. She was dressed totally inappropriately for the job and I was embarrassed for her. The equipment used was no better than what you have at home soak my feet in a bucket while sitting in a hard wicker chair. Not very relaxing at all. Can do much better. This was possibly the worst manicure I have ever had - uneven, lumpy and started to chip the same day. There are some jobs where you need to color inside the lines - and manicurist is one of them. I am not sure the young woman has had any formal training and I did not think to look for certification. I would definitely NOT try them again. read more

This was probably the WORST and over priced manicure that both my wife and I have ever experience . We made an appointment during a raining day in Feb. on both Sanibel & Captiva Island and was told that the first opening would be at 4:45pm and took my cell number that they took it incorrectly. I went to " yelp" to find a place(only 3 on the island) and I wish I had read your other reviews .. Customers BEWARE ! Very over priced($60.00) and not very sanitary and no nail drying equipment..only one such item and it is the owners and her clientele.My wife went first since she was getting polish and they said it needed time to dry...yes since she did not have the dryer. I was just getting a nail buffed and she and the owner did not have the proper buffing equipment nor did she know about a natural buff...she smeared cubicle oil on my nails and when I asked to wash my hands you should have seen the shock on the face of both the owner & young women doing our nails ..the bath room was a DUMP...If I was staying longer I would have notified the health department..The job was done so unprofessional and the young women even one of cubicle started to bleed and she did nothing or said anything. I thought that Tips & Toez needs to rethink itself and clean up it's act and stop "sticking to the tourist"! read more
