While I wait, I go get my nails done. So I have obviously compared services and prices. For me, the more I do gel manicures, the less they last. My nails have grown so weak, and have wondered if it is because of all the gel manicuring I have done. So cue my most recent visit with Lucky Nails. For my pedicures I always go to Lin or Amy. NO ONE ELSE. I have never had an issue with them. I get pedicures regularly so my pedis are pretty simple. I did not get a gel manicure this time. I wanted to get acrylic because my nails were so weak and wanted longer lasting polish. The manager (first station) and the lady next to him are the only ones I see that do acrylic. I sat with the manager. He convinced me to not do acrylics and to instead do NexGen, a powder gel. I am so new to the whole dipping your finger in powder and you then have polish process. He literally put my tips, shaped them then started polishing, dipping, polishing, dipping, then shaping like he would acrylic. After one final top coat I was done. No harsh odors, no washing of the hands. I was done. He said my nails can last up to 3 weeks, maybe more. I just got them done, so I cannot say for certain yet, but it has been 4 days and have not chipped or peeled the polish and my nails look so smooth and sleek, not bulky like the acrylic. I did go early in the morning with my daughter on a Sunday and was taken care of shortly after arriving. They were already with clients. Again, they accept cards but will charge you tax and there is no option for tips, you'd have to add that to the total. Just pay cash, it's cheaper. Here is an article of another review on NexGen. https://www.beautyinthebag.com/wordpress/i-tried-the-nexgen-manicure-and-heres-what-happened/

On top of that, my toenails look like candy because they rushed the job to catch the next customer and focused to details. It was clear they didn't care about providing good service. Save your money and go somewhere else. Otherwise you will get the candy nails. Thick and not good to details. I had to go after 2 days to re-do my pedicure somewhere else because couldn't see them. Waist of money.

That being said! So glad I stopped in! It was a rainy Saturday morning, I expected it to be empty. It was not! I ended up making an appointment for 1pm. I came in for my appointment and was seated for my pedicure right away. I needed to soak off my old dip mani and I prefer to do that while I get my pedicure. It was a very relaxing time. The chair has the massage feature too!! I wasn't sure what color to go with for the weather but still some sort of pastel for the season.. Beti was super helpful in this regard. Beti did both my pedicure and manicure. She was very professional, patient, and polite. She even helped me find a pedicure color match for the manicure!! She also fixed FIVE broken nails. I wanted to keep the shape and length. Bet ya'll cant tell which ones were broken! Thank you, Beti! If you are in the area, this is the spot to go to. Total was about 60 bucks. Nails still look good a week later and I work with my hands.

I love going to her studio as it is truly a one-on-one experience, it isn't noisy, crowded, always clean and no overpowering chemical smell (which I hate). She's super sweet and personable which makes the experience so comfortable. In addition her nails are bomb ! In my two years I have NEVER had a broken nail, my nails never lift or chip so there is never any pain nor do they snag my hair like most tend to do when its time for a fill (and it usually takes about 3-5 weeks before i need a fill with her work !) No broken nails, nails that last 3+ weeks, beautiful designs, a bomb tech and a great atmosphere, you really can't ask for more. The prices are super reasonable for the quality of material and work you're getting. The proof is in the pics. Also, she's been super great about adhering to COVID standards. I feel even more comfortable knowing everything is being cleaned before and after my visit.

Add to that some techs just not doing a great job anyway. So, when I find a place that gives me good nails, I am loyal. This is my third time going to 167 Foxy Nails and I already have an appointment for a fourth! My first time was with a different tech and tbh, it was nothing special. I was not impressed. The nails were thick, and uneven. My favorite part was the very neutral jelly color. I decided to give the salon another try, and am happy I did. This tech examined my nails while having a brief consult on what I'd like. I told her I wanted the same color & shape (boring, I know). She tried to find the color through like a million test swatches, but never got a match. That's when she got to work! She filed down the thickness of the acrylic, taking her time to not only look (from different angles), but to FEEL for smoothness. That's when I knew I was going to walk out with good nails. She perfected the coffin shape, and took care of any stray cuticles. I was happy with my nails for the first time in years! Over the next few days, I'd look down at them and smile. And not only did they look good, they were durable! It took at least three weeks between each fill, the nails grew out, but never lifted. The last visit I had the original nails removed. There was no prying with a metrocard, or any other strong arm tactics. Just a soak in warm acetone and filing. Another consult on what I'd like and together we came up with the almond. The pictures make my nails look like pink M&Ms, but that's just my poor picture taking skills. The salon is appointment only, and I've never been made to wait when it was time. It's a small space, but doesn't feel stuffy. This is my go to spot for the foreseeable future.

I have been here about 4/5 times now for pedicures Only and I am pleased. I used the same lady a few times however that last two times I came she was off and I had to try a new person. Happy to say I am pleased, which is a big deal because I'm very picky when it comes to the cleanliness and what is considered a good pedicure. Overall the shop is very clean and bright (minimalist design). They can get busy and there can be a small wait sometimes, which I don't mind because I think the ladies that I have used have done great jobs. My hope is that they stay good and don't start to rush or get sloppy because then my search starts all over again... whomp whomp. For the most part everyone is pleasant and the pedicure ladies are always sweet however I have witnessed the owners/mangers get a little rude and snappy with some customers on more than one occasion. I would like to believe it might be cultural but I understand when it really isn't and to be fair I have not experienced it directly. Nonetheless, I have a go to pedicure spot @ least for now.
