This was a cute local ice cream parlor. We drove by it a few times while up at a cabin in Long Prairie. I believe they only serve soft serve ice cream. I got a dipped cotton candy cone w/ vanilla ice cream. It was hot & humid the day we went. As soon as I broke the cotton candy shell the ice cream was melting like crazy and became a mess so I unfortunately had to throw it away after only a few bites. Prices were decent & the line was long but moved pretty fast. If I'm ever in the area again I would go back. read more

This was my third time here. Work brings me to Osakis every 3 months. This business is seasonal (late spring through summer). I've had: corn fritters which are yummy. I did ask if burgers were frozen and reply was no. Frozen Sysco patties are the worst, lazy attempt at some restaurants/bars. I had a cheeseburger with tomato and lettuce and fries. These are small, not your half pound burgers. Good and satisfying. They also have Dole Whip. The flavor today was original pineapple. So refreshing on a hot day. I ate by my lonely self outside. I used the bathroom and noticed there was indoor seating. There are other ice cream delights but haven't tried yet. Support Small Business and the locals. read more

Over the years, we've made Tip Top Dairy Bar a regular ice cream stop on our way to the cabin. Highly recommend stopping for ice cream. It's amazing! Most recently, we decided to stop and order lunch. It was BAD. Ordered a bacon cheeseburger, super simple. The bacon was so thick, fatty and undercooked that you could not even bite through it so I had to take it off the burger. When I took it off the burger, the meat really was able to shine and that wasn't a good thing. It was under seasoned and completely dry. The fries we soggy and tasted like they had been sitting in the warmer for far too long even though they were busy and should've been cycling through them. Small town soft serve at its best! The only place to go if you are in Osakis and certainly worth the one mile trek off interstate 94 if you are driving by. Cyclones are akin to "blizzards" at DQ, but the toppings are of better quality and more bountiful at Tip Top. Frozen bananas are covered in chocolate and a steal at $1. Burgers are made to order, sloppy joes and fried delights are available and good but the soft serve is king. Well call me a fool, but I do love a local ice cream place. We did not eat food here. But we ate the ice cream. And then we came back a second time. Because yup. Ice cream. OK, so everything about this place screams local ice cream place that has been here since the beginning of time. I thoroughly enjoyed he cute little sign on the top of the building and the signage on the side of the building advertising proudly that it has been there since 1955. It's everything you want in a local ice cream place, from the walk up window to the simple but efficient menu board. I ordered a chocolate dipped cone, which is one of my all-time favorite ice cream treats and it definitely delivered. The ice cream was perfectly twisted onto the cone in a completely straight swirl. The chocolate was expertly dipped, right down to the top of the cone, covering every inch of the cone with thick delicious chocolate. And when it was handed to me, the chocolate was still a little soft, which is just so enjoyable in the summer. Then our friends told us about the ice cream sandwiches here. This is not an average ice cream sandwich. This is a thick layer of creamy vanilla ice cream wedged between two very large homemade chocolate chip cookies, which were delicious all by themselves. The thing is monstrous (of course I still ate the whole thing). And at $2.50 it's a steal. My only complaint honestly is that the people were not super friendly. When I asked the woman behind the window if they had bottled water, she looked at me like I was an idiot and just said no. She didn't offer me a cup of water or even try to sell me another beverage. Fine. Take my money and give me another ice cream sandwich. read more

A slice of Americana, the Tip Top Dairy Bar will put you back into 1955, when the Bar opened. You can order inside or outside. They have a nice selection of burgers, fries, sides, fried shrimp, ice cream cones, sundaes, Cyclones, and more. The soft serve ice cream was delicious, with plenty of mix-ins. The Cowboy Bites are wonderful little morsels of fried corn, cheese, jalapenos, and bacon. The eating area is quite small. This is a nice little place to enjoy an afternoon summer treat. They also serve 1919 Root Beer or Root Beer floats. Stop in and enjoy their twist cone. It's definitely worth venturing off I-94 for. read more

I have frequented Tip Top since 1966. It has been a family tradition to stop by every weekend in the summer. Since the ownership has changed in the last couple of years the chocolate has changed and it tastes horrible, like wax. It makes me very sad to end our tradition but it just doesn't taste good anymore. read more

Stopped on way home after a trip up north. Was blown away with the full menu, all of the icecreamand food choices. Had small blended icecream, which were comparable with blizzards. They toasted the bun and I asked for some fresh toppings including grilled onions which were out of this world. My hubs ordered the cheeseburger & said he would order it again. Coolest roadside hole in the wall ever. Really cool small town Americana experience. On the dessert front, The Cyclones (like a blizzard) was a gazillion times better than Dairy Queen, tons of goodies like coconut n nuts. Slurpies tasted so much better than anything we've tried and they had lots of flavor options. The cowboy bites were corn, cheese, bacon and jalapeño fritters and so yummy for a signature appetizer. Who gives 5 stars on a first review? Me, when it's this good. My friend and I were going "up north" for the weekend and passed thru Osakis and commented how good it was. I forcefully required a u-turn to get a treat. I had their $4 peanut fudge parfait thing. It's my favorite flavor combo and i might make this my permanent route up north.
