Like others have said, the Alps is comfortable and includes the amenities that most people want. It certainly is cheaper than most other Leadville motels and a good value. It isn't large enough to have a breakfast and that helps keep the prices down. When full, the parking can be tight but not really a problem unless you are pulling an ATV trailer. Watch the water temperature, Jeff makes sure the water is hot for the cold Leadville winters. We will stay here again.

Though I had originally intended to only stay for about five days the breakdown of my car stranded me there for the better part of two weeks. This hotel is probably one of the best in the mountain top town of Leadville which is located just off of HWY 24S. about 70 miles southwest of Denver. The rooms are nicely furnished, equipped with small fridges and microwaves and are very reasonably priced. The owners were on vacation during my time there but the former owners who were holding down the fort were extremely personable and helpful during that most trying of weeks on the road. Located at the edge of a town which stands at 10,430 feet elevation, the motel offers a scenic view of the nearby snow covered mountain peaks.

I was just a kid from the Midwest with zero expectations or context, completely out of my element at that altitude, trying to figure out Western skiing and getting spectacularly sunburned in the process. Everyone was cool and welcoming, and my family came away with incredible memories. At the time, I had no idea how special that combination of a huge mountain and a real, lived-in mountain town actually was. Decades later, with a lot more skiing and life experience behind me, I've come to appreciate how organic Breckenridge feels. The historic town, its easygoing energy, and the way it sits naturally alongside the mountain give it a character that can't simply be manufactured. I may have passed through Breckenridge since that first trip, but I haven't returned for a proper stay, and I'd love to come back with my own family someday. It will always be the place where a kid from the Midwest first discovered how much he loved the mountains.

Really disappointing check-in experience, especially for the price point…read more After traveling all day with my family and young daughter, we arrived at the lobby around 6:00 PM only to find it closed with a sign directing us to check in at One Ski Hill. We drove to One Ski Hill, and that lobby was also closed with another sign directing us to River Mountain Lodge. After going back down the mountain, we then waited around 30 minutes while the front desk staff had to be walked through how to check us in. In total, what should have been a simple check-in turned into a frustrating hour-long process with multiple locations, poor communication, and no smooth handoff. My daughter was tired and crying, and we were exhausted from travel. For a hotel/resort at this price, this level of disorganization is unacceptable. The staff member was polite, but the system and process were very poorly handled. Guests should not be sent from location to location after a full travel day, especially when paying premium rates.

We thought that was how they all were, until we saw others and discovered that it was only this one particular unit (Lakawanna 1B). No exaggeration, there was not more than 1 person able to be in the entire kitchen at the same time. The second we put 2 people in there to expedite breakfast, we accidentally broke a glass. And of course, felt awful about it! There is a nice area between the cabins for playing horseshoes or other outdoor games, but the weeds are so high that it makes for a challenging game when people are not wearing long pants, as the children in our group did not like to. Also, we discovered that other cabins had very nice back decks with tables to encourage eating outdoors. Ours had a large front deck, with just some dusty plastic chairs. Positives were the amazing view, the ability to get our large group all lodged nearby one another, the comfortable beds, large bathrooms, and the fact that we did not have to put a hefty deposit down. Overall, this resort is fine and I would stay there again - but I would be certain to select one of the other cabins that would allow more space for cooking and family time.

AWFUL RESERVATION EXPERIENCE…read more It is a nice property, walking distance to all shops, restaurants in Aspen. I was in Aspen over July 4 week. We made reservations for this property to return over Labor Day weekend for the JAS Music Festival. I physically went to this property looked at it, and reserved three nights. They took 50% deposit. Later that evening, I got a voicemail that they had to cancel my reservation because they oversold their property over Labor Day weekend. I called Scott, the property GM. He confirmed that they did oversell and his employee should have never made reservations for Labor Day Weekend. He offered no apologies, no discount for future stays. It was very unprofessional. They have yet to refund my 50% deposit (about $1600).

The lounge is really nice. Breakfast was great! Unfortunately the rooms are dated and need a facelift. They do there best to keep them clean. It looks like the last facelift was at least 25 years ago. The walls are paper thin so don't plan on sleeping in past 6:30 AM. Everything in Aspen is way way over priced. We knew that coming in, but we didn't expect the upkeep and maintenance to be so deferred. Aspen is the typical destination resort. Getting you once is the goal. Hoping you will come back is not. So for the reasons above I cannot recommend this property.
