The set menus are recommended as, if you stray onto maitre de recommendations, you may find the bill balloon. The maitre de, a Spanish national I believe, has to curb his tactile histrionics - like Basil Fawlty crossed with Manuel - if all but lunching workies are going to enjoy themselves there. If you are used to chain restaurants with a Spanish or Hispanic theme, like Nando's or Chiquito's, 'Ola' will come as something of a shock. It does not know what it wants to be, it is a small business with chain aspirations and will have to work on a more welcoming atmosphere - the maitre de thinks sexism and sarcasm pass as this and the otherwise friendly Eastern European waitress needs training - and better deals if it is to survive. If you are not a drunken work's group or hen night, with the bill spread about many people, avoid!

It has all the usual tapas fare but it is all very fresh and tasty. We ordered about 4 dishes and it was more than enough per person. EK is not the most exciting eating hot spot in the world but this is a wee gem of a place. Don't be out off by the random location!

Surely if you know there's a problem sit people elsewhere? Secondly some of the food, such as the chorizo, tasted pretty standard. Thirdly, the location is pretty remote. Jamon Iberico was good, sourdough of course is not authentic to the Spanish cuisine, but it was still tasty bread. We ordered the Galician sirloin and it was really good. If you are a real steak lover, probably go for their prime rib. I like my steak a little less fatty. Their cheesy cauliflower was rich and tasty and their tomato salad was just whatever, but it was good tomatoes. This was still one of my better meals here in Scotland.

However, it was good enough to keep Tinto as a 3-star and not 2, which is what my most recent experience would definitely be rated as. Went for breakfast with some of my extended family (7 of us) on a Sunday morning and it was just so disappointing. While I appreciate we were a relatively large table, the rest of the place was *empty* so I wouldn't have expected this would be too much to cope with. However, when our dishes came out mostly a variety of cold and burnt, it put a right dampener on our gathering. I had been looking forward to ordering churros after my Croque Senor (this came out a bit burnt, and presented itself as merely a grilled sandwich slapped on a plate, not even cut through or anything...) but in all honestly, I was frightened to in case it ruined my previous love of Tinto churros. Our server was great and they did take the two worst plates off our bill which was nice of them, but everything just felt as if not very much care or effort had been put in at all. This place could be an excellent hub of activity on a usual dead Sunday morning in Uddy, it has so much potential but on this occasion, seriously failed to deliver.

A wee review update and still a very strong 5 stars from me!…read more Cubatas is definitely one of my favourite restaurants in Glasgow, I've now had countless meals here and enjoyed exceptional food and friendly, attentive service each time. We often take our little boy with us and they are so lovely to him, I order him a couple of dishes as soon as we arrive and these are brought out not long after we have him settled in his highchair and our drinks have arrived. It's brilliant as food keeps him occupied and we can relax and enjoy our food too. I force myself to order some dishes I haven't tried before - it's so easy to stick with the ones I have tried and I LOVE - and each time I discover another mouth watering dish. One of my new favourites is the pork cheek, melt in the mouth, jam packed full of flavour and so moreish. Added to some regular favourites such as the spicy prawns, paella, patatas bravas and their delicious salad dishes and you get a wonderfully varied meal. My top tip is to order a basket of bread for the table, the sauces and oils that accompany the dishes are divine and I love mopping them up with a chunk of soft fluffy bread. It's great going to Cubatas in a big group, with people who are happy sharing. My ideal would be to go and order one of everything off the menu, heaven :) These guys also do gift vouchers, I know as I bought my mum and dad some for Christmas. We've taken them for dinner here a few times and they love it!

They have a pretty good wine list too, and we soon settled on a nice fragrant Alberino, which was a pefect accompaniment to the seafood. The table was soon very cluttered with dishes, wine cooler and glasses, but we managed. I'm afraid I forgot to take any pictures of the food, it was too yummy not to get stuck in. For dessert, I couldn't resist the chocolate brownie, although I opted for coconut ice cream instead of the lemon. I probably shouldn't have had either given my lactose intolerance, but sometimes you have to be prepared to suffer. It did almost finish me off, it was so chocolatey, but wow, it was worth it. I'm only giving four stars as I thought the service was a little lacklustre in places. They didn't offer to pour or let us taste the wine, didn't provide a finger bowl or any wipes for the sticky fingers, and - more importantly - didn't tell us about the menu specials when we were ordering. We only found out about those when I spotted the specials board on the way out. I don't know if it would have made much difference actually, as we were pretty committed to the paella before we arrived, but it would have been nice to have had the choice. Annnd.... After all this we were more then full but a brave few tackled a Desert of creme Catalan (which is sort of like creme brûlée) which was brought out with the sugar on top and the the sugar was caramelised with a little blow torch infront of us by our super server. As it was my birthday my parents had brought a surprise cake which was brought out after desert and I was serenaded in Spanish! Our waiter kindly offered to cut the cake and when I was brought back out with lovely slices on a saucer with whipped cream, raspberry sauce and sprinkled with icing sugar, how lovely was that?! Greeted by the sound of flamenco guitar as you enter, your senses are transported to a cosy cantina off the traditional tourist beat on the Iberian peninsular. Casa Ole simply oozes Spanish ambiance. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable about the food and went the extra mile in making sure we had everything we wanted, exceptional good service. As part of a large group there was good opportunity to sample a wide variety of the dishes on offer and none of them fell short of the mark. A great evening and delicious food, all in all highly recommended. Yes. Came by on our first night in Edinburgh with my boyfriend because of some decent yelp reviews and we weren't disappointed. The host/server (manager? owner?) took the time to explain ALL of the dishes to us, including all of the specials. [sidenote, being from CA, and hearing Catalonian Spanish with a Scottish accent was such a trip.] He presented and explained all of the dishes table side like you expect in a fine dining restaurant, and brought some olives and bread on the house. We had the four specials, papas bravatos (I think) were my boyfriend's favorite, and the Sancho and Calamari were menu staples that were lovely. Everything we had was cooked perfectly to us, and all of the meats so tender. We washed it all down with a liter of sangria, which had cinnamon as a new twist for us. The stew was basically a big bowl of soup like stew. Not what I was expecting but extremely tasty. I've never had pork cheeks before but the meat was slow cooked and fell away from the fork. Yum! The only thing was the lack of "chunky homemade chips" as described in the menu. There were bits of potato in the stew but chips? Nope. Would I go back? Definitely. The food was authentic and tasty and its really near my work so v handy! It's small but cute with terracotta pots and plants dotted around inside. Quite quaint. If it wasn't for the garlic in the food it would be an ideal date venue! :)
