I was getting ready to move across the country and was able to donate old office supplies, post-its, paper and other items I had around my apartment - I was very happy to donate those items here rather than somewhere like Goodwill or them going into the trash. I didn't expect for them to ask me to stand there and go through every time I was donating. It was a bit judgey and uncomfortable as they handed back a can of spray paint that they thought could be less than half full. I was disappointed that the rest of it wouldn't be used be someone (even for free!) and that I had to throw it out instead.

Found Stanford Fine Art thru an online search for museums. It's not a museum but a pretty nice shop dealing in fine arts. Large variety of paintings, sculptures, furniture, etc. The owner (Stan) was very friendly and informative. He showed several pieces and told us about the artists. This would be a great store to pick up a couple of "show" pieces. Interior designers and collectors surely flock here for high quality unique items. It was fun for us to look and speak with Stan. There are also two good antique and collectible shops next door. It is worth the visit if you are in the area.

Thankfully, customers can browse through some stores, including Shimai, on the Loveless property while they're waiting. Shimai features art, crafts, pottery and other creations produced by local artisans. When I walked in, I had a sense of calmness come over me. It helped that this store was well lit and the sunshine flooded the place through the multi-paned windows. This little store seemed like a museum, with everything being so nice. I can't even begin to imagine how many total countless hours it took the many local artists to create everything that was in Shimai. The were pottery pieces, handblown glass art, paintings, jewelry, women's articles of clothing, and so many pieces of art that can be hanged on the wall. Just know that most of these art pieces come with a high price. But they're very beautiful!

Although most of the paintings here a very conventional (children playing on the beach, still lives, agricultural landscapes, European streets, luxurious portraits, etc.), I did see a few more innovative pieces too, including a drippy-looking abstract painting in bold primary colors, a very realistic portrait of two old-timers playing folk music in a community center, and some neat impressionist wilderness scenes by Gavin Brooks. Most of the artwork at Richland is large-scale and very pricey. But they weren't kiddiing when they called it "Fine Art" - all of the paintings here are vibrant and professional-looking, clearly created by highly trained artists. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and don't seem to mind if you wander in without necessarily intending to make a purchase.
