We recently had our roof and three skylights replaced by Phelps Brothers, and they were - in a word…read more- excellent. Jamie was efficient and responsive with the initial estimate and follow-up questions we had and promptly provided us with both samples and addresses of customers where we could check out their work. Within a half-hour of starting work on "day 1," the workers realized our roof was one of a rare 2% of roofs built in a particularly solid way "back when," but one that would make the roof replacement work more challenging. The project director, Tony, consulted with Phelps Brothers' owner, and within minutes they agreed to proceed as originally planned. This initial roadblock was handled in a transparent manner and quickly resolved. The work was done quickly and efficiently over two days, with a special focus on not damaging flower beds all around the house (the job was done in mid-April, so a lot of new growth, none of which was damaged!). On the back of our furnace chimney, Phelps built a cricket, or diverter, to lessen the impact of rain on the actual brick. This was done because it was needed, not because we had requested it, and it wasn't included in the original, approved estimate. Just an example of Phelps Brothers going above and beyond to provide high-quality work. Tony was a real pleasure to work with - pleasant to deal with, super patient and direct with answering our questions. He even came back weeks later to patch/glue a bluestone chip that had been slightly damaged. Now that's service! His team of roofers were super hard-working and friendly. All in all, every person we dealt with at Phelps Brothers was friendly and professional. Our roof looks great; a real upgrade to our home. We would enthusiastically use them again and would recommend Phelps Brothers for any roofing needs.

I recently used AAA Roofing for a complete roof replacement on our 130 + year old, 3 story home…read more The job was a big one that required the rip off of 2 layers of shingles in addition to a layer of cedar shakes. There are several flat roof areas, dormers, bay window roofs, 2 chimneys, you name it, we likely had it here. Wood underlayment was required for all of the highest roof area of the house. The crew was amazing. Here at 7 a.m. daily and they worked so hard it was unbelievable. Very impressive. My niece had recommended AAA but I did my homework before selecting them. I interviewed and received estimates from several other companies. Not only was the price and the Google reviews great but the company has been in business for over 8 decades. That means something. Joe was in touch throughout the job, checking in to make sure I was happy with the progress and the workmanship. I appreciated his reassurance and commitment to ensuring i was pleased with the outcome. This is a company I would highly recommend. Thank You Joe and the entire crew for a job well done.

Our house dates from 1949, as did the septic tank, a galvanized tin container about 6' in diameter,…read moreno leach field. As the tank had caved in recently, we no longer had a functioning system (which indeed backed into the house at Christmas time.) After we trenched out the old system and at least got liquids flowing, we sought out bids to replace. Not only did the whole system have to get rebuilt to code, but we also had to deal with shale rock inches below the lawn and a wooded area leading down the hillside for the site of the leach field. Given the scope of the project, the first contractor we spoke to was never heard from again. J&R Contracting, headed up the the father and son team of Rick and Rick, arrived 2 days after we called, sized up the project, gave us a realistic estimate given the challenges of the site (e.g. assume an extra day to jack hammer through the shale to create a pit.) We said, "Sure!" Rick took a deposit to pay for the construction of a low profile holding tank, said they'd be back to do the job when the tank was ready. Sure enough, 3 weeks later, the team showed up with two backhoes, a dozer, trucks to transport in sand and topsoil, and chainsaws. We mapped out an area for the tank and leach field, and then they got to work. Over three days a level area was created for the leach field after removing some scrub trees. Specimen trees were tagged and left alone. The big project was jack hammering out the pit, as deep as I am tall. The tank was lowered in, piping connected and soil smoothed over. As J&R already had all the equipment on site, we asked for two days of extra work to bring in ten loads of sand and topsoil to regrade the lawn, reshaping to direct rainfall and winter melt away from the house foundations. The final step in late April will be to distribute shade tolerant grass seed across the new lawn. The final bill matched the original estimate. The added time and materials for sculpting the lawn was, of course, extra. The results far exceeded our expectations.

After reaching out via phone, he was super responsive and said he could squeeze in some odd job work on a Saturday. He asked me to confirm with him Friday. I did. Pete was a no show at our 9am arrival time; all good, things happen and contractors always have a little grace period. 9:30, nothing. I'd planned my day around letting him in/confirming scope of work, so I called. He said no problem, he was on his way, he'd be there in 20 minutes. I said great, I'm running out for one errand and I'll leave the door open for you. We'd already discussed what he could start on. He never showed. I texted. He never responded. I followed up via phone call. No response; mailbox full. I know contractors are a hot commodity these days, but woof this was a crappy experience. If you can't show, don't say you're on your way then leave your client in a lurch.
