Chatting with an employee (not sure if he was the owner) - I couldn't believe there were BSB collectible cards or TY Beanie Babies pins and being created. What a different time now versus years ago. Comic Relief is located in a small shopping center with an even smaller parking lot. Or it seems…read morethat way with the amount of traffic constantly entering and leaving. The store itself is relatively small, but then again, most comic stores ARE small. But do not be deceived, good reader. The number of books housed at Comic Relief is quite a lot! The owner is always courteous. But he doesn't say very much if anything at all. Which can be a good thing if you're an introvert, I suppose. :) Overall, this place is excellent for finding the latest releases and even hard-to-find variant covers. However, it's not the best for back issues or quality of issues, for that matter. If it hasn't come out within that same week, expect to find bent corners, spine ticks, and spine wear galore on most of the books. It's not that people are beating the books to hell. It's actually the racks on which they sit, which tend to be simple wire shelves with gaps in them, that the books fall victim to. The wood shelf system on the back wall is much more efficient. However, the way the books tend to be packed on those shelves can also give way to an epic collapse knocking several books to the floor in a matter of seconds. Yikes! And yes, I did see that happen on a number of occasions.

There are sooooooo many comic books scattered around that I'm pretty sure Wade doesn't even know what he has. Sure, sifting through all that inventory can be overwhelming, but that's part of the fun. Each trip is different as the staff uncovers and prices additional stock from the shipments of yesterday (and yesteryear). So, it's like a race against time to see what gems you can find before they even realize what they have! Allow yourself plenty of time, though, because it is very easy to get lost for hours as you comb through the bins and boxes of eras and stories gone by. But that's why I love it. Unfortunately, there are some things I wish they could do better... like with their pricing, which isn't always consistent. Some books aren't labeled or in a designated price box. So then you're left up to the discretion of whoever works the cash register that day to determine what they want to charge for it. I also used to be a big fan of their VIP program, which, for $15, offered some discount on almost everything in the store. Plus, a $10 credit on your birthday month. So it paid for itself and then some. But as I recently learned in my last few visits, this isn't always the case. It's really left up to the discretion of whoever is working the register that day whether or not they want to honor it. ‍ But the staff is still very polite and helpful and I do enjoy coming here. It's one of the better comic stores in the region and has been that way for years. If you're in the area, check it out!

If you are nostalgic for a local comic book shop, where the owner chats your ear off about…read morecharacters and community seems to gather here to just hang out.....this is your spot. I personally am not a comic book person but my son and husband are, they have been coming here more often lately eventhough we live about 30 minutes away. The time I came in the people behind the counter were laughing and chatting about a new book release in a way that made me want to pick up the book just to join in on the conversation. My son was looking for a certain Catwad comic and they were kind enough to say they would order it for him, eventhough the store is tiny and we literally only get maybe one book a month from here. Definitely come check them out, and then enjoy all the other cute shops on the block.

The location is on a cozy little side street in a cool-looking town, not too far from Princeton. There's side-street parking, but it's easier to park in the tiny lot next to the shop. Inside, there is a regularly updated new issue section. As well as a decent selection of trade paperbacks. And the employees who work there are always super nice, friendly, and tremendously welcoming. However, the same cannot be said about the shop itself... Not only is the inside incredibly dusty with dirt in the bins and on the floors, but the boxes of back issue comics (which mostly sit on said floors) are completely unorganized and in the worst possible condition. Some books are bagged and boarded, some are loose and falling apart. Comics are so tightly packed in some bins that you can't even properly go through them without damaging the spines of multiple books. Now, regarding the selection in those back issue bins, most of it is $1-dollar to $2-dollar bin-worthy. Sure, you might find a couple of keys every now and again, but they are not worth the high sticker price given their condition. I remember the first time I was in the shop, when most of the back issues hadn't been priced out yet, and I was told that unmarked books were cover price, or $1 if the original cover price was below a buck. Now that pricing structure makes a lot more sense, I guess, given the general condition of most of the books. But as of my latest trip, most of those same back issues are now sticker-priced at incredibly high levels and do not reflect the general condition of the books (F-VG quality at NM prices). Plus, trying to access the bins is a challenge in itself since the shop is relatively small and there is often debris in the way or stacks of clutter on top that you have to move first, including a trash can that sits directly in front of a few rows of bins by the side entrance. So, until I hear they've lowered prices, carry better books, and just all-around better present the store itself, I won't pop in here again. You all have superhero charm, but you really need to clean up that shop to keep it from entering into supervillain territory!

Unfortunately, the condition of those back-issue books rarely reflects the significantly higher prices they charge. As an avid comic collector and seller myself, I'm well aware of market value.
