I sought out the support of a lactation consultant, she was great and offered ideas on oral exercises to prevent the need for clipping. Although I tried those recommendations, my daughter still continued to struggle. I located the Indiana Professional Lip and Tongue Tie list and contacted Dr. Dan's office as it was about 45 minutes from my home. His office was extremely easy to reach, I communicated the need for the consult on lip and tongue tie clipping and was able to schedule the following business day. My husband and I both went to the appointment to ensure we were making the right decision. Dr. Dan spent easily 45 minutes to an hour with us prior to the procedure answering questions, reviewing our concerns and possible reasons for the concerns. He has the BEST bedside manner and truly understands the bond that a mother and child have during breastfeeding. I have never met a professional aside from OB that truly can understand the connection between mother and baby during the feeding. I felt at ease with him and his desire to help us along our journey with our daughter. The procedure was extremely quick but handled with the utmost respect to my tiny infant. The level of patience and ability to keep my infant comfortable during his initial exam was outstanding. His assistant was helpful and used a calm voice when speaking to us. The procedure was not rushed nor was the support in understanding how to do the after care routine. I was able to glove up and practice the exercises with the doctor to ensure I had them down pat before leaving. There is a list of instructions that is provided to you prior to entering the procedure room and although it looks intimidating, it's pretty easy and gone over in great detail. There is also a few videos emailed to you for extra support during the following weeks after you leave the office. Dr. Dan provided his contact number for direct questions or support needed during recovery and encouraged us to contact with any concerns day or night. Following the procedure he continued to wow me by offering a boppy pillow to assist with nursing my baby. This is unheard of from any professional even at an OB office! I can't say enough positive things about Dr.Dan!! We followed up a week later and I continued to see the same genuine concern for my daughter and how she was recovering. When we have other children, I will be sure to return to see him and know that the procedure is done correctly the first time around and by someone who truly wants to make a difference.

The chairs are set up more like little beds for them, so it really put our older son at ease since it was just a nice comfy place to lay, not a "dentist chair." (This does appear to change as they get older - so your experience could be a little different.) The best thing is that they really worked with both of our kids and were so patient - to the point that when our oldest was too scared for x-rays, they didn't push it and just said we could try again next time. The waiting room is also a big highlight - there's a separate room with a basketball goal and a big Lite Brite wall to keep the kids entertained until it's their time to go back. Really happy this place was recommended to us and look forward to our next visit. And my kids might even say that too - which is a BIG win.

I made an appointment for my kids to be seen at Clark, Dean, & Associates. The employee I spoke with over the phone when making the appointment inquired about what kind of insurance we had, to which I replied that we were covered by my husband's federal employee insurance. She told me that they accepted government plans, made the appointment, and that was that. When we went for the appointment, the staff were all friendly. We had a short wait before we were brought back. The staff took x-rays of my kids' teeth, the dental hygienist gave them a 5-10 minute cleaning, and the dentist looked over my kids' teeth and x-rays. We were in the office for approximately 1 hour. When we were checking out, the employee said that she did not know our specific insurance coverages, but that she did not think we would have any costs to worry about. Fast forward to the following Monday- I receive a call from the office to inform me that this office does not accept our insurance and we now have a $390 bill for services rendered. Wow! When my husband went to their office to get a break down of what in the world they did that constituted a $400 bill ($45/child was strictly bitewings?!?!?), they informed him that it was typically their practice to check insurance coverages, but could offer no explanation of why this was not done for us. Absolutely unacceptable. We are fortunate that we are able to pay this very unexpected bill (all services would have been covered 100% with an in network provider). The clinic did offer a measly 10% cash discount, but I would have elected to find an in network dentist had I been informed that this office was not covered by our insurance. Shame on me, and shame on this office for not verifying benefits for their customers.
