Impromptu stop and I'm so glad I did. Ended up with a white mocha which was recommended by another customer and it was absolutely delicious! Left with a pepperoni roll and couldn't help myself and ate it on the way home. Meant to save a piece for my boyfriend but couldn't resist. By far one of the best cinnamon rolls I've had. The lady working the counter suggested microwaving and adding butter on top,and oh was she right! Overall, a good experience. My wife and I ordered a cake, muffins, and cookies for Easter. I will say it's very pricey and there is a limited selection compared to the now retired Carol's bakery that used to be on Zelie's Main Street. So if price and variety are not hindrances, then definitely try this place out. We try to support local artisans and small businesses so we try to not let price deter us, within reason, especially when it comes to discretionary purchases like "treats." The baked goods we purchased were good quality, and we'd order them all again. I will say their chocolate cake was very dense, but that is a matter of preference. We still enjoyed it. My wife and I stopped in because we have had Tin Man Sweets baked goods and desserts before and wanted to check out their new storefront now featuring made from scratch baked goods, coffees, and gelato! We were not disappointed! They had a number of different pastries, cupcakes, muffins, rolls, cakes, and chocolate covered desserts to choose from! I got a cinnamon roll and my wife got a cherry cream cheese danish. They were so fresh and tasted out of this world! My wife got an espresso drink and I got a black coffee. I was really impressed that Tin Man Sweets buys coffee from local Pittsburgh roasters, Defer Coffee and Tea and La Prima both in the Strip District, and grinds/brews it fresh! Tin Man Sweets has a number of espresso based, frappes, and smoothie drinks available. They also have gelato from Mercurios in Pittsburgh which is out of this world! They let us sample a number of them. The peanut butter chocolate is my favorite! The owner and the manager who served us that day were so nice and kind. It was nice to visit, talk with, and support a local business after all the COVID-19 stay at home orders had been lifted! The shop was clean and nicely decorated with a rustic and country chique feel with a little modern thrown in there. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. There is a short bar area for a few people to sit down, stare out the window, and enjoy their coffee and baked good while reading a good book or browsing Facebook on their mobile device. I love that Tin Man Sweets has a cafe bake shop now in addition to their custom bakery service. They do custom cakes cupcakes, cookies, desserts for weddings, birthdays, holidays, office parties, gifts, you name it! BEST BAKERY CAKE EVER! I ordered a 6" round cake for a small dinner in honor of my parents' 50th wedding anniversary, and it didn't disappoint. The cake was beautifully decorated, and it was truly the best bakery cake I have ever eaten. The actual chocolate cake was flavorful and moist; the raspberry filling was just right; and, the frosting was like no other (it was beyond the basic buttercream). Additionally, the owners aided in the anniversary surprise by delivering the cake to a local restaurant. I should have wrote this review right after my review for the candy shop in town, but that could have been too sweet to endure. This is an awesome little shop in town. It's got that close knit feel about it. I am by no means a townie of the Evans City, but if I was, I would stop by here often. If you are from Evans City and you do not stop here often, shame on you. This is a family run sweets shop and if these are their family recipes, I wish I was related. The shop itself is, um, how do I put this without sounding like a tween girl, cute. The display case reminds you the old time cases that old bakeries had. Wood and glass. Sturdy enough to hold you back and keep the drool from getting all over the cakes safely placed within. The cupcakes range in price depending on what type you choose from. My half dozen was a bit pricey, but totally worth the price I got. I opted for two traditional white and two traditional chocolate cupcakes and two peanut butter chocolate ones. I was half tempted to eat them all there, but I held off until I returned home. I shared them with my roommate and we were both delighted with how moist and sweet they truly were. I chose Tin Man Sweets for the desserts for a wedding I was helping to plan from out of state. I could not have been more pleased! Tin Man Sweets is a bakery off the beaten path in downtown Evans City. According to their website, their bakers have been baking for over 15 years. I first tried their sweet and yummy goodness when my coworker showed up with a box of donuts and rolls. Since then, I have stopped by on more than one occasion for my Saturday morning favorite - maple iced donut. In a recent cupcake contest hosted by WPXI, they were deemed second place winners. Very impressive. The business is operated by husband & wife, Justin and Maria. Prior to opening the store in August of 2012, they were running the business from their home. Then made our anniversary cake a year later which was adorable and matched our larger cake from our wedding ! I ordered a custom 30th birthday cake for my husband for last Saturday. The people at Tin Man were wonderful with everything from the ordering process to the finished product. By far one of the best little bakeries around. I will drive from Robinson to Evans City for this establishments baked goods they r so wonderful. I bought a cinnamon type little individual strudel and it never made it home. Thus no picture. My husband almost didnt get his peanut butter brownie as i really thought of hiding it for myself. He did give me a taste.....heavenly The icing nice and fluffy and not too sweet and beautifully decorated. Even memories of my grandmas baking can't top this. We met with the owner, Maria, of Tin Man Sweets on 5/6/17 to finalize our wedding cake order. And had discussed all the details needed for them to create a contract. We put down our deposit, Maria took notes on what seemed like everything we discussed: how we wanted our cake to look, the flowers we had in mind of using as décor for the cake, having almonds brought separately from Tin Man for the caterer to place on each slice of cake, the icing, fillings, and batter. We were pleased with the service received and proud to be using a small, local business. However, after not receiving our contract until July 2017, we realized this was a HUGE mistake. They were in the process of moving to a different location which caused them to misplace and forget to send us the contract. There were a lot of mistakes in our contract. We were contracted to receive a 3 tiered cake and to have (2) sheet cakes. THIS DID NOT HAPPEN AND THERE WAS BARELY ENOUGH CAKE FOR OUR GUESTS. We were contracted that Tin Man Sweets would bring the almonds to place on top of each piece of cake. THIS DID NOT HAPPEN. Once we had purchased the cake flowers to be used for décor, we had told Maria EXACTLY how we wanted them and our expectations, and even went as far as sending her pictures of the burlap flowers we had purchased, so they would know what to expect when she delivered our cake. The delivery person from Tin Man Sweets had no idea what to do with the flowers and had to ask a random wedding guest if she had any idea how/where we wanted the flowers on our wedding cake. After all these issues we experienced with Tin Man Sweets, we had called them after our wedding, asking for explanations and a refund for the issues and disappointments we encountered. Not only were we hung up on, but we were told by the other owner, Justin, that certain things in the contract were just mistakes and didn't matter. We asked about the almonds never being brought by Maria, he replied saying this wasn't contracted and that was that. Still, it was verbally agreed upon and Maria had made a note of that specific request when we met with her back in May. We called back later after not being pleased with how these huge errors were "resolved" and spoke with Maria. She was apologetic and after we went over the errors in the contract AGAIN she offered to give us a cake for free. We do not live in that area so I said No we want some sort of refund. As soon as I mentioned a refund, she became all defensive and eventually hung up on me. She then called my mom who had actually signed the contract and they agreed to a $50 "refund" in the form of a VISA gift card. It has been over 2 weeks and we still have not received a thing. I would try calling them back but their phones are not always answered during their business hours. Beware when thinking about using them for an event. read more
