Have gone to Timothy's in its different locations Not my favorite for personal taste but has never been subpar until tonight. My wife and I ordered the $34 dollar horseradish white fish. The dish was tasteless, soggy on an incredible mountain of arugula. We tried it but my wife and I sent it back. It took forever to arrive and disappointed when Put in front of us. We ordered bread for $5 . Normally I receive a warm loaf sliced and ready to be eaten. This Bread was a pathetic tasteless white carbo mess . After the fish was removed the potatoes arrived . The waitress asked did we want something else and then added that to the bill. She questioned us if we ate the fish like we are some food grifters. Tough night at Timothy's. Won't be back for awhile but to be fair, this is the first dud in the bunch. FOOD KRANK 2 belches rating. read more

We ate here for our last night of our stay at Union Pier. I made a reservation namely because I'm a crustacean lover and was sold when I saw they had a lobster special. Admittedly though, I was apprehensive the day of our dinner because recent reviews didn't look promising. So we figured that at the worst case, we'd just get appetizers and cocktails, then go elsewhere if we didn't care for the menu. Pleased to report that we stuck around for a full meal experience. The lobster was perfectly steamed and meat was sweet, the mashed potatoes tasted homemade, and I liked that the slaw was different with its curry spice. My husband's pot roast was also delicious, as the beef was tender and richly flavored, and the root vegetables were the perfect complement. Since it was our anniversary, we got dessert on the house, which was a nice touch. The apple crisp was insanely fresh and satisfying. Our server, Lynn, provided exceptional service. And with the top notch experience, we were pleasantly surprised at the bill. Perhaps we timed it well with being in the off peak season, but we expected it to be much higher, so that was an added perk. If you're on the fence with recent reviews, please give Timothy's a try! My wife and I went here for our official ten year anniversary dinner and it did not disappoint! The atmosphere was elegant yet relaxed. We've been to places with similar menus and you're expected to wear a tie, not here though even though the quality and service is on par with those places. We started with the buffalo cauliflower and this white fish dip. I can't eat cauliflower but it was an entire head of cauliflower cut up, batter with tempura, flash fried, and tossed in buffalo sauce with what appeared to be house made pickles. It looked and smelled great and my wife said it was delicious. We also had a white fish dip, normally I only eat red snapper but tried this and ended up eating almost the whole thing. It was like a very light tuna salad but way better than any tuna salad I've ever had. I can't even really describe it beyond it was fantastic. For dinner I had the filet over mashed potatoes and chilled asparagus and my wife had some shrimp and pasta dish. Unfortunately I can't have shellfish so I didn't taste hers but it was huge. She said the shrimp were cooked perfectly and the whole dish was very good. The filet was peppercorn crusted and had a balsamic reduction over it. One of the best steaks I've ever had anywhere. The chilled asparagus was also very good but by this point I was stuffed and only took a few bites of them as I was wanting to eat as much of the steak as I possibly could. We had the key lime cheesecake to go and ate it later that night because we didn't have room for it at dinner. It was also so good! It was a cheesecake with I believe lime zest and then a key lime almost like gelatin on top. It was light and refreshing and extremely good. We both love cheesecake this was so good and a perfect ending to a great meal! read more

Excellent food and service! We kept finding restaurants that were too busy and ended up at Timothy's. Menu looked good, atmosphere was nice and peaceful and the service was spot on. Three of us ordered the horseradish-crusted Michigan Whitefish and it was amazing! Served over arugula with cherries, jicama and Gorgonzola cheese with balsamic and lime sauce. Oh my gosh - so yummy and interesting! Key lime cheesecake was great too! Definitely worth a visit! read more

My food had toppings I didn't ask for, and somehow they managed to make french fries taste bad? My wife's food was undercooked, and again had toppings that she didn't order, and wasn't stated on the menu. Best part? Our food was $85, and inedible. We arrived a few minutes after they opened at 5pm yesterday and set at the bar. Immediately the bartender greeted us, gave us menus, told us the specials, and asked if we would like a cocktail. We started with the Brussel sprouts which are always so very good. The lamb shank was fabulous as always and I tried the meatloaf this time. I normally do not eat meatloaf but decided to try it. The texture was not dry and it just fell apart it was so moist. The flavor from the caramelized onion bacon gravy was so very good. I would order it again. Hmmm... I had high hopes for this cute, vintage spot. I love the history, the look, the patio and location. What a disappointment. There are some serious training issues that really need to be addressed. From the hostesses to the bartenders to the kitchen - there were mishaps from beginning to end. I had a reservation, checked in and asked to be seated on the patio. The mousey hostess, looked scared and said she had to ask the manager. 5 minutes later she said it was ok. She walked us past 6 cute tables and brought next to the kitchen door and exit to the parking lot. She said all of the other tables were reserved. I suggested we just grab a table in the bar. She asked 4 different times if we were going to sit at the bar. When I would point out a table, she would say they were reserved. Every single table was pre-assigned?? I finally sat myself at the bar. The bartenders were doing their thing but offered nothing extra. We did not feel welcome at all. I watched a waitress sample a cocktail the bartender had made. When my friend ordered her oysters from the appetizer section as her entree, the bartender left and put in the order. We had to call her back and re-explain that was her dinner and I wanted to order mine as well. I asked to make sure everything came out together since my friend's order was not an appetizer but her dinner. When my friend's order came out and mine did not, the bartender threw up her hands and said, "Well, I told them!" and walked away. The items to be included in my friends order were not there. Of course it was confusion again. Shamefully handled by the bartender, who said she wasn't sure what was supposed to be included. Then, two different women came out, corrected my friends ordered and offered empathy with a lovely attitude. Wonderful!! We ate and left quickly. I could not wait to wrap things up. And you guessed it, every single table I asked about still sat empty as we left. This truly was a 1 star experience but the food tasted great (once corrected) and the 2 manager ladies offered warm, personalized customer care. Note to management: TRAIN YOUR STAFF!! read more

Have previously rated this highly but food has gone downhill. Ordered lamb sirloin on specials menu done medium rare. When it arrived, my dinner companion said, "That's raw!" and the server agreed and said she'd take it back. I feared it would come back overdone but no, it returned with two bite-sized pieces cooked to pink and the rest still raw. Not sure how anyone with any cooking skills could not warm already sliced meat. I ate the potatoes and vegetables and chose not to eat the purple lamb tartar. Was there any adjustment to the bill? No? The server apologized but I had not much of a meal. This restaurant usually requires reset and is packed. There were only four other tables occupied. I'd say word had gotten out. Sad! read more

After spending all day doing the wine trail, Timothy's was actually plan B after our initial choice was not available; the universe works in mysteious ways. The website states: "Trust it to be wonderful." And it was. It was actually spectacular. I had the Wagyu sirloin, and along with the sauce, it was among the best steak I've ever had. Recently, we dined at Timothy's to celebrate our 60th wedding anniversary. We were totally disappointed and may never go there again. The staff seated us in the bar area rather than the main room that has a garden view, even though they noted it was a significant anniversary and places were available in the main room. The roasted garlic in the appetizer was undercooked and did not spread. The whitefish, probably from frozen, was served as mush and inedible. The bang bang shrimp had no bang and was served with little slaw that did have some taste. The Cava wine we ordered was of poor quality, not up to the standards of a fine or even good restaurant. Only one of our party liked the key lime pie/cake, the rest thought it was terrible. read more

We enjoyed a lovely Sunday dinner at Timothy's. We had a 5pm reservation and were seated at a window table for two in the back room where we could look out at the beautifully illuminated igloos. We were attended to by Sylvia who made us feel welcome, answered our first-timers questions and provided her recommendations. Our appetizers and entrées were beautifully presented, wonderfully seasoned and truly delicious. We opted for the bang bang shrimp starter as well as the chef's appetizer special, a graham cracker crusted bleu cheese creation (see pic) followed by the Thai Chilean sea bass and coconut macadamia nut crusted grouper entrées. Hubby chose the New England clam chowder for his meal starter and I went with the house salad, both of which were wonderful. When eating at a place that costs between $50 - $100 per person, expectations are high. Sadly, Timothy's fell short. The server was friendly but the service was below average. Our food arrived tepid. I believe our server forgot about us and someone else delivered the food but it was too late. They finished strong with dessert but it was too little and too late. Perhaps the staff had an off night. It's possible. I probably won't return to find out, though. read more

Went there as a party of 6. Couldn't locate our reservation. Asked if we called or made it online. We had the confirmation and suddenly it was found. Waited 30 minutes for drinks, one was incorrect, one watered down, out of martini glasses and so one was served in a juice glass. When appetizers arrived, informed Darcy that drink was incorrect. She responded that we would have to tell our waitress. 30 minutes later, a glass of wine was ordered. Told that the bar was slammed because the real bartender got married that day. Waited another 30 minutes for glass of wine and a cup of ice. 3 of the 6 people ordered prime rib, 2 medium rare and 1 rare. When Darcy delivered them to the table asked which was which. She told us to cut into them and figure it out. We asked to speak to the manager, but he was off that day and Darcy was in charge. She said he would contact us the next day. Over a week passed by and we had to contact him. He said he never got the message. The patio is nice, but needs to be sprayed for bugs. Out of room for the other issues we experienced. More disappointing was the soft shell crab. It was served in a bowl of cold noodles, various sautéed vegetables mixed with a slop of sauce that made the crab soggy. More strange was the lip of the bowl drizzled with great flair of some sort of oil. Timothy's had a very cute outdoor area so perhaps I would've been more impressed had we sat outside. However, I felt the price point was high for what you get. I ordered the fish and chips and wished I had asked for something else. The fish was ok and the chips tasted a tad burnt and not seasoned or salted at all. I just would have expected more for the price point of this restaurant. I will say my mom liked her shrimp pasta dish (I forgot the name of it) and my boyfriend liked his burger. Our cauliflower appetizer was good when you had a piece that was sauced but not all of it was sauced and those pieces were bland. I trust there are other menu items that would've been much better based on the other reviews I've seen but, yeah, unfortunately my choice wasn't the right one in hindsight. I had a great experience at Timothy's when I came here for a Saturday dinner reservation. The parking lot was spacious and the indoor dining area was big as well. They also offered outdoor dining but it was too hot on the day I came here so I opted to dine inside. Once we went inside, social distancing was being practiced to get in line for the hostess. We were seated right away and was given a paper bag with little hand sanitizers, a pen, and a credit card holder. These things were for contactless payment option. All the staff members were cautious and careful on keeping their distance from each other and from the guests. Masks were strictly enforced as well. Our server was friendly and helpful in giving suggestions. He was also very efficient in attending to all the tables that he was in charge of. On top of the good service and feeling comfortable and safe with dining inside, every dish that we've tried were delicious. Here are the things that I've tried: FLASH FRIED BEETS- I have not appreciated beets this much until I've tried this appetizer SOFT SHELL CRAB- perfectly seasoned and cooked GRILLED ICEBERG WEDGE-refreshing FILET MIGNON-the steak was cooked just right, the fried onion rings added texture and flavor, and the asparagus was fantastic CEDAR PLANK ALASKAN HALIBUT- great! I loved the side of jasmine rice because it added delicious aroma and flavor to the fish We were so satisfied with everything that we have tried and did not have room for dessert anymore. I would definitely come back here if I want to have a nice sit-down dinner in the Union Pier/New Buffalo area. They serve delicious food with fresh ingredients and provide excellent service. Not what it used to be! Extremely disappointing last night. I ordered the crab legs and i immediately knew something wasn't right. Horrible fish smell. When I took my first bite I had to spit it out. My dad ordered the ribs and could barely eat them. My mom ordered Chilean sea bass and was sick the rest of the night. I will say, our server was amazing! What an incredible place! This restaurant came highly recommended for us to try while on vacation and it did not disappoint. My husband and I had the crab cakes appetizer and the shrimp au vin. My mouth is still watering from the miso aioli that came with the delicious crab cakes. And the shrimp au vin was absolutely amazing! I tried a few bites from what was passed around at our table and everything I ate was wonderful. Plus, our server was very kind and accommodating. The restaurant itself is beautiful. It has really cool features like the TVs in the floor in the bar area, the beautiful lighting in the entry, and the really pretty fish art piece in the first dining area. It also has a beautiful patio area with gorgeous waterfall feature and lots of greenery. A truly wonderful experience! read more

One of the worst dinners we've had in years. Timothys is just strange -- in the land of fruit orchards and all manner of farms - this place is serving up terrible food. Staff are so sweet but can't make up for the low quality. Typically at prices like this the chef prepares more food from scratch - local ingredients are plentiful in Michigan. I ordered the Thai Sea-bass-- it was definitely pre-prepped with a 'square' rice pilaf that was heated in a microwave . It tasted so bad -- and then they threw it on top of those pre-cut bagged Asian veggies you get at the grocery store. For those in the food service industry -- it was like a 'Sysco food truck' pulled up and served the meal. The bartender could not make a simple cocktail and our server was so embarrassed she comped us although we offered to pay. Timothy's owners should be ashamed--the marketing, high prices do not equal a delicious fresh dinner. Avoid this place all together! read more

After coming to Timothy's to dine for years, we hosted our wedding rehearsal dinner there and had an amazing experience. We worked with Starla to set up a menu and accommodate our 50 guest party, and she was great to work with, providing direction on how to best make the dinner work for our party. We were set up in the Woodland Room looking out over their garden, and our guests all commented on the great decor and view. On the food front, we knew from experience, but our guests really enjoyed the appetizers, especially the calamari with curry sauce and Bang Bang Shrimp. Our steak, chicken, and fish entrees were also fantastic. As the wine was flowing and the meals were served, ace servers Rachel and Christie did an amazing job ensuring everyone was taken care of. Ultimately overrated and overpriced. For a meal that costs $137.00, an hour wait and disrespectful sneering from waiters is unacceptable. We were so excited to go, we made reservations and took a family outing just to see the place. When we got there we were utterly neglected by our waiter whom, after conspicuous twitching and sniffling, disappeared entirely. We were left unattended for yet another stretch of time and were finally saddled with yet another twitching-afflicted waitress, this time with a nasty curt approach. Hard up for hospitality in this place. The food finally came; instant potatoes, fish over cooked to the point of oblivion, and soggy spaghetti noodles for almost $40.00 a plate. So we went to Timothy's for lobster... none left by 7 pm reservation! So if this is why you go - book early. Then we ordered 3 apps. 1 came out and then nothing else for like 20 minutes. Finally other apps came. We had ordered for 4 adults and 2 children. Children's dinner came out while we're having apps. Roasted tomato soup has liquid smoke or something in it. Not good. 1/2 hour later our dinners came out. So kids were done and we were just starting. Waitress was nice enough, but very, very slow. For the money go elsewhere!! read more

I'm conflicted about Timothy's. Our friends who have the place in New Buffalo said they've always had a good experience here so they were shocked with our experience last weekend. The waitress first seated us and dropped off four waters, one of which was tinted brown. My friend pointed it out to the waitress and she said "oh it's just a little bit of Coke, I didn't think he would notice..." WTF!? If you know that someone's water got pop in it... You switch it out and bring them a pure water. One of the strangest comments I've ever heard from waitstaff. The waitress was also super awkward and made several uncomfortable comments. We ordered a couple appetizers - I got the crispy brussels sprouts and my husband got the softshell crab. He said that the crab was good but it wasn't cleaned as well as he has experienced in other restaurants. He couldn't finish it because he was a little grossed out. The brussels sprouts were delicious, the sauce on top was amazing however it's literally just the leaves... So you're paying to have like the shredded part that falls off with no substance. Even though they were good, it wasn't worth the price because it wasn't filling at all. For entrées, we got a few different things. One friend got the ribeye, I got the shrimp and scallop pasta, my husband got the fish and chips, and another friend got the whitefish. My entrée was actually delicious. They only give you like 3 thinly sliced scallops and three pieces of shrimp but honestly I expected that from a place like this. The sauce was amazing... Very unique, I've never had anything like it. My husband's fish and chips were completely overcooked to the point where the fish in the center was dried out. The worst fish and chips I've ever had in my life. I didn't try my friends whitefish but he said it was mediocre. I did take a bite of the ribeye and the cut was not very good. I've gotten a better ribeye from a grocery store. Overall, even though my appetizer and entrée were very good, the experience as a whole was pretty negative. None of my friends enjoyed their food and reasonably so after trying it. The experience with the wait staff was a bit unprecedented but seemed to be the theme in new Buffalo last weekend. Overall I don't think I could convince them to come back. read more
