Trying to order online from retailers is cost prohibitive without being able to really see the items first. Visiting Mountain Gems made my trip entirely worth it. I got some great deals on beautiful material and spent over an hour talking rocks with two great guys. They have a good selection of cabochons and faceted gems in really cool carousel display cases. I saw some things I've only ever seen online and learned about some material from BC. Unfortunately, I'm not an experienced enough metalsmith to justify buying some of the cabs I really wanted, but it's definitely on my list when I visit in the future. As an amateur lapidarist, I was ecstatic to look through their shelf of slabs. I bought probably an unhealthy amount, but hey, I need to transport it across the Pacific Ocean. I might as well make it worth it. They walked me through some of the things I picked out and showed me some things I missed that I ended up loving too. Plus they wrapped everything neatly because it was going to be travelling. The staff was incredibly helpful and knowledgable. Guys, if you're reading this, sorry, I completely forgot to get your names. I really appreciated the time you took to talk about everything I was interested in seeing and giving me pointers and ideas on the slabs I bought.
