Disregard the brief Yelp description, this indie bookstore has a vast selection of titles organized by subject/genre (a potential treasure trove) and a variety of merch. The Homie honed in on three books reflecting his interests in military aviation, history, and Chinese cooking. The latter was a great vintage Time Life collection title. I seem to continue my streak of locating unique or sought out titles while on holiday. Last summer it was a French cookbook in Newport, OR. Here in Godfather's cookbook room, I found The Slanted Door. The James Beard winning author/chef had passed away earlier this year and I never received my copy from a TX bookseller via a distributor. Godfather's has that signature indie bookstore vibe, great titles to pore over, and really nice staff who treat both regulars and visitors with genuine warmth. A worthy detour while in Astoria!

Worth it to get books here but try to keep best to avoid trying to interact with the person behind the counter. Hopefully the rest of their staff is competent at bare minimum having a decent attitude when customers walk in. Pretty remarkably off putting vibes. Sad.

I loved seeing a steady stream of folks coming in to shop, especially a kiddo who returned a couple of times. Viva readers! We were greeted warmly and enthusiastically by the kind owner. This sweet and cosy space is bright and inviting. They have an initial small but mighty selection of books for every reader as well as a lovely selection of stickers, some coloring books, and fun stationery. We've been in the store a couple times over the years looking for tie-die t-shirts and hoodies, of which they usually have a great selection. The day we went "finding," we didn't see a single adult size tie-die t-shirt in the whole store (we searched the whole town that day, actually) so will have to try again at some point. The real draw, in my opinion, is the selection of kites. Really good quality too. The nearby beach is the perfect place to fly them too. We usually visit tourist beach towns like Long Beach mid-week when kids are still in school so we've never had an issue with spotty customer service. So many complaints from other Yelpers makes me think you reap what you sow. Many people come in with kids making noise and running all over the place, touching everything, etc. If I were a shop owner or worker I'd get a tad perturbed too. Just saying. Will definitely be going back to Stormin Norman's next time we're in town. ZOLTAR even meets you at the door and can tell your personal fortune for a small fee.

Bach & Rock was a shop we just stumbled across while we were out and about in Astoria. It was a…read morepart of downtown we haven't explored too thoroughly prior which is the explanation I am going with. This place is loaded with musical instruments, they sell CD's and other physical forms of music that have long stopped seeing new prints in a broad way. For movies they have DVD's, VHS and probably any other form of physical media I am not mentioning for movies. On top of that this place is kind of an incense heaven. The selection is huge and there were at least five different spots I found in the store where they had incense sticks. I bought quite a bit and was pleased with finding so many scents I don't normally come across. The atmosphere is quirky to say the least. Not only is their windblowing instruments everywhere, it's loaded with plants and other decor that definitely gives this place a unique signature. And of course the fact that a real parrot was here only enhanced that. And of course we had to swing by and say "hi" to the bird.

First off, I'm the only person, apparently, to notice all the wind instruments in this place, mainly brass instruments. I don't think I've read another review that even mentions the wind instruments. HELLO! The place is packed with them...every shape size and sort. Lots of trumpets, alto/tenor horns (really cool), piccolo trumpets, trombones, valve trombones, tubas, at least one bassoon, and much more. I give it five stars for the instruments. Absolutely dazzling to look at. I asked the "guy" where they source them from and he shot back "all over the world." I plan to go back and buy a trumpet. Great incense section. And yes, the records, cds and tapes. Very impressive. I actually did not see a cat, dog or bird. And I lost part of my smell-o-factory from covid so I didn't smell any pet smells. So why the 4 star review and not a 5 star review? Well, it's an odd place and it is somewhat restricted. You can't browse the wind instruments really because they're in a closed off area. (Did I mention the brass instruments? They're amazing absolutely beautiful). It's an odd place, and maybe not the most welcoming, but to me I love the oddity. Many different items/ booths to wander, some curated, some raw, all equally can hold a buried treasure somewhere.
