No one there to help with shoes ( we looked for 30 minutes) 2. Find a pair of shoes, when we get to the counter realize the box is torn, shoes are scuffed, and full of dog hair! ( Yep they were on the shelf that way) 3. When I noticed the condition of the shoes and pointed it out, the cashier acted offended that I said we would buy a different pair. 4. Find a different pair and go to pay , go to set my water that I purchased on the counter so I can get my wallet and there is plant dirt all over the counter!! Now I've offended another cashier!!! We tried another groomer and they did a sub par job and made him look like a Westie. No shop we called had much experience with Scotties. One shop we called would not even return our calls. We brought him to Wilco and are so glad we did. The shop looks bright and clean and everyone was very kind and friendly. Jamie did a fantastic job on our scottie and we are super excited to se him finally looking like a proper Scottish Terrier. I'd give ten stars if I could.

The vision owners Gene and Dawn O'Neil have for Puget Island Garden Center is brilliant, something I haven't seen before:  They have benches, little round wrought iron table-and-chair sets, single and double sets of chairs for resting/sitting/reflecting and communing, even a hammock between two trees set off from the Puget Island Garden Center itself. What used to be a llama barn, Gene remodeled into a store where they sell all kinds of garden supplies and more.  It's an eclectic of their (Gene and Dawn) idiosyncratic creative interests, lovingly displayed. But there are actually 4 buildings, more like a garden complex. Each building has a purpose: in here are the veggie starts, this building has annuals for pots on the porch or deck, etc. The lovely part was how, since unlike urban garden centers with limited space, they have plenty of room, each structure spaced apart with rows of plants, set on table-like settings and, interspersed, are all those lovely little spots to sit and visit and reflect.  Dawn said their vision is to have the Puget Island Garden Center be a destination and indeed that is what it is!  They had healthy plants and trees of every type. So hard to limit what to buy! I bought a beautiful black lace elderberry I'm excited about. Natalie, the plant expert, is so knowledgeable. When my friend or I had questions, we went to Natalie, a brilliant plant goddess who looks herself as if she grew right out of a columbine, a very knowledgeable young horticulturist.  They have plans to use the rest of the 5 acres to actually grow what they sell, but for now, they have to buy the plants. Dawn and Gene, so friendly and generous with their stories, suggested we stop at "Little Island Creamery" where we needed to purchase the brie cheese because it had just won #1 'best brie cheese' at the national cheese organization. After we left, we went to The Spar (does every town and city have a restaurant named the Spar?) where we met the most delightful server, Wren, who served us one of the best sandwiches. What a memorable day.

The owners are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet and Natalie, the Garden Manager, is incredibly knowledgeable about plants, gardening and landscaping. She helped me identify which herbs/flowers I should plant together and the best placement for them in my backyard. Oh and the garden center is leashed dog friendly, which is a huge plus I'm excited to come back and enjoy their upcoming events!

The building itself has a long history, being around for over 100 years and was once a regular floral shop before focusing on orchids. From eulophia or miniature orchids, this place has it all. The staff here are very attentive and knowledgeable, and provide great expert advice. If you're looking for rare and unusual orchids, this is a great shop. I would not come in here wanting to buy the same orchids that can be found in a regular grocery store (I mean, why would you?). Things are a bit expensive especially for rare species, so be prepared to spend a bit more than most regular orchids. They answer emails and Facebook messages, though I'm not sure the phone number works.

If you're unsure of pricing they have a color coded tags and posters of what their prices are. I'm super into Hoyas and I loved that they well rooted cuttings of them! You don't see that often. We were walking around their showroom for awhile and we almost missed their greenhouses! They are full of beautiful orchids big and small. They also had a selection of soil, pots, and wood to mount plants on. They were also having class today too. The staff was very nice and knowledgeable. We will definitely be stopping every-time we're in Tacoma now.
