I spend at least a week every summer in Flag, and have always thought it lacked a great local ice cream shop. Every year I go up, I conduct the hopeful internet search and 2024 was the year: Timberline Ice Cream. And stoked when I saw the location on the map - no need to have to deal with downtown parking just to grab an ice cream. I was aware of Timberline from the Farmers Market, but at 9am on a Sunday I'm not typically wanting a cup of ice cream, so was excited I'd finally get to try this product. I ordered the Mint Freckle in a cup, which I have to say, it bothers me a bit they don't just call it Mint Chocolate Chip. That's what I was after, and probably as many other customers will, I had to ask to make sure that's what I was getting. The ice cream was really great. What wasn't great was standing there eating it next to a gas station and along a somewhat unaesthetic strip mall of the most random businesses. Also nowhere to eat inside if it was unpleasant outside. It's really more of a space in a strip mall they seem to have rented to produce their ice cream, and had the afterthought, let's put a register at the door and also sell scoops. So to me the Flag market for a great local ice cream shop is still wide open for grabs. They have the product, but if I were a young family with kids, I'd probably just as soon host a summer ice cream afternoon on my back patio with a good store bought ice cream. read more

Timberline ice cream seems to be one of the best ice cream in flagstaff. Although their yelp and apple open dates/time are incorrect, they were open on Sunday at 3pm. They do have some limited hours on Sunday. All their ice cream are made locally which is great. We were able to sample the entire menu but my favorite ice cream was the blueberry cheesecake ice cream, it was absolutely delish. It had actual fresh blueberries within the ice cream. It was really creamy but also not too sweet. It was a great balance. The workers were very patient during the entire time we spent sampling and give pretty decent scopes. The location is meh. The store itself is meh. The customer service was okay. You couldn't see the ice cream before you order it. There was a sign telling you not to touch the menu or you might pay for it. Half the flavors were absent from the menu. There were no places inside to eat the ice cream beyond a single bench. There were no places outside to eat the ice cream, unless you just stand in the parking lot next to the vape shop. The ice cream was handed to us on top of a 3/4 wall, with minimal fanfare, in a mediocre cup and a wooden spoon. The 5 stars are because the ice cream was phenomenal. Perfect texture, temperature, mouth feel and flavor. Wonderful. The best mint chip I've had, and my son - a budding expert on cookies and cream - declared his the best he's had too. So, maybe with ice cream this good, they don't need all the usual accoutrements. I kinda dig this place because of that. We'll be back tomorrow. read more

You will find Nick and Seth at events, Flagstaff Community Market, Flagstaff Urban Flea Market, etc. Every time I see their cart, I must have some! They are expanding and hope to have a food truck soon. They now have both 8 and 12 ounce sizes, I can't wait for the gallon size, and the flavor menu keeps expanding. I have tried them all and my fave is Rocky Rt. 66, but all flavors are good and I was pleasantly surprised by the non-dairy Lemon Berry and Coconut Lemon Berry! Made locally in small batches with organic, local and regional ingredients. No artificial flavors or colors! This definitely makes a big difference in taste! The interior of this place has no seating inside or out, so you have to take ice cream to go. The ice cream is behind a counter where you can't visualize what you are buying. The orange creamsicle had a gorgeous color.......and I thought it would taste just like an orange creamsicle popsicle. There was a flavor I cannot identify that almost tasted like a hint of curry. The butter pecan was much better, but the base was very sweet. Our blueberry cheesecake scoop had an extremely sweet and artificial flavor. I had high hopes for the homemade waffle cones, which were generously sized and fresh, but had a cinnamon flavor which I didn't expect or care for.
