Not yet is known about the upstairs-from-the-Henry-House bar yet other than it's wonderful decor and fancy drink menu. This isn't a beer-drinking spot, folks. This is where you go to feel important, share some drinks with a few friends and enjoy a couple hours of elegancy without feeling out of place. The Drawing Room has a timeless feel to it. You could be having a flashback to any period over the last hundred years and know that no matter what year you're in, you're enjoying it like royalty. The drink menu offers martinis, wines, and drinks of all sorts. I ordered a Burie'd Mojito, which was white rum, an assortment of berry juices and mint leaves. It was fantastic! My second drink was a vodka-based green lime drink that was just as delicious. Mind you, the drinks are $10+ so unless your wallet is loaded, don't come here to join it. Of course, the Drawing Room isn't the type of environment to get drunk but the drinks are made strong so be wary of your perception because you may be surprised once you stand up.

Either go through the front door and keep going up or walk through the main dining room and go to the left to the staircase and go to the top and you are there. The room is dark, atmospheric and filled with exposed beams, dark leather chairs, a cozy fireplace and a menu inspired by different time periods. The bar staff is friendly and know their drinks. My favourite is a Negroni, a delicious blend of campari, gin and vermouth. A perfect place for a date night or a few drinks with some close friends.

This review is for the Bayers Lake location…read more 1) Lost 2 stars for poor customer service and lack of information: We walked in at 7:00 p.m. to try their Friday trivia night. (We had called to book a table for trivia and when we walked in, they said no need to reserve--it doesn't get that busy. That should have been a warning.) We sat down for our meal. By 8:30, the first round of trivia had only concluded (this is considered slow--more on that below). That's when the server came by and grumpily asked if one of the people our party was 19 or over (he's 18). When we said no, she said he had to be out of there by 9:00. She didn't think to tell us this at 7:00, knowing we were there for trivia? No signage anywhere on the premises saying "Patrons under 19 have to leave by 9:00 p.m."? What kind of short-sighted policies do they have here? They were happy to take our money and not tell us that we'd have to leave by 9:00, knowing that we wouldn't be able to finish trivia. 2) Lost 1 star for slow and uninteresting trivia. Questions were read straight from a card by a host who didn't seem interested and didn't engage with his audience. He read each question slowly about three times, hence the s-l-o-w pace where it took 30 minutes for one round that didn't even have audio or video clues. The lack of players should have been our clue that this trivia event is not a success. 3) Lost 1 star for loud, eclectic ambience--this place doesn't know what it wants to be. The trivia was taking place at the same time as music on the speaker and sports TV were playing, all jumbled together at the same time. Maybe that's why the host had to repeat each question slowly several times. But hey, if you want to watch baseball while answering questions about Thomas the Tank Engine and listening to Mumford and Sons simultaneously, this is the place for you. If the food were good, it could save this place, but nope, just mediocre fare that could be served at any pub. And don't get me started on the quick little brown movement we saw out of the corner of our eye, darting under the dining tables. We know it's common for restaurants to have this problem, but flagrantly in the dining room while we were eating makes it easy to warn everyone we know never to come here. Solid nope, nope, nope for this place.

Fortunately there was power at the retail area of Larry Uteck and after braving a mad crush at Timmies for my morning fix, it was time to find somewhere to eat. A couple of the restaurants in the area hadn't opened, but Patrons was showing signs of life, so in I popped. It's a bit of an oddity. To the right of the door are a couple of high tech' golf simulators. To the left are two distinct areas, the first being a kind of lounge set-up, furnished with comfy chairs and sofas. The second is the main bar/restaurant area. Not surprisingly is was pretty busy and all the tables were taken, so I pulled up at the bar. The barman and single waitress were being rushed off their feet and the kitchen appeared to be way behind on orders, all thanks to the power cut. A second waitress who lived locally was called in at short notice and together, the three of them performed heroically. The drinks choices are fine, with some coverage of the local craft scene, including a couple of the better ciders and the menu is standard pub fare. I went for the poutine. A mass of fries, slightly less than optimum portion of curds and a generous topping of smoked meat. The gravy was just the right temperature to melt the curds and seasoning was good. I was thoroughly stuffed by the end. Not cheap at around $13, but not too bad for Halifax. The main bar is a bit of a barn and I'm not sure it would make for a cozy local pub, but for beer and tucker you could do far worse.
